Overview
Filthy has run second and third from two career starts, and on Thursday the four-year-old gets Ben Thompson, the rider who has won 25 races from 109 rides at Ipswich, in a maiden handicap that looks there for the taking. That is the anchor of this card, but it is far from the only story. Chance de Lune heads the market in the opening maiden despite failing to place in four tries at the track, Coincide brings the deepest course record of any runner on the day, and Baccarat Rouge has won two of four visits here.
Seven races on a Good surface, starting at 1:45PM and finishing with the 1,680m Bm62 at 5:23PM. These Ipswich racing tips work through every race with a firm view on each, a staking line for each, and a short list of where the money goes at the end. Bookmaker prices are only live for the first three races at this stage, so the back half is assessed on form, connections and course record alone.
Ipswich racing tips: what the track gives us
A Good track on a Thursday in October usually means fair racing, and the course numbers point to a handful of people who know how to get it right here. Ben Thompson stands apart among the riders, and T J Gollan sends four runners with a record of 23 winners from 115 starters at the track. Gregory Cornish has a smaller sample but places with six of every ten runners he brings.

Race-by-race: Ipswich predictions
Race 1: Poco Vino Mdn Plate, 1:45PM, 1,965m
The market has Chance de Lune at $2.05 with Bet Right, and that price asks you to trust a maiden that has not finished in the first three in four Ipswich starts. Chance de Lune ran second last time and has a habit of hanging around the placings, but nine runs in the past 90 days have produced two placings and no wins. A price this short is a lot to ask for that profile.
Blood Red is the one I want. The six-year-old also finished second at the latest start, the 586562 line shows a horse getting closer, and Taylor Marshall knows this track well, with eight winners and 23 placings from 54 rides here. Barrier 7 over 1,965m gives Marshall time to find cover before the first turn. At $5.00 with Unibet, that is a fair return against a favourite this short.
Aremkay is the danger. Only two starts in, with 55kg and a Michael Morrison stable behind it, Aremkay is the runner most likely to take a big step forward. Win bet on Blood Red, small saver on Aremkay at $3.60 with Unibet.
Race 2: Tab Plate (C2), 2:20PM, 1,965m
Indamouse arrives off a win; Hot Majesty arrives off a pile of placings. Draw Attention is scratched, which leaves six runners and a straight argument between those two profiles.
I side with Indamouse. The form line of 044251 tells the story of a horse that took a few runs to find its feet and then won, and the step to C2 grade is a modest one. David Vandyke has six winners from 42 runners at Ipswich, M Rodd has five from 40 rides, and barrier 2 lets Rodd hold a handy spot without using petrol. The price is $2.90 with Bet Right.
Hot Majesty is the obvious threat at $2.35 with Bet Right. Gollan’s stable places more than half its Ipswich runners and Archie McColm has won two of his four rides here, but the horse has three runs without a win in the last 90 days, finishing fourth last time. That is a horse finding one better, and the price is tight for it.
Keep Down Under Stunnah in mind. Three Ipswich starts have produced three top-three finishes, one of them a win, and B Lerena rides. Win bet on Indamouse, and Down Under Stunnah each-way at $6.25 with Bet Right.
Race 3: Racing And Sports Mdn Hcp, 2:55PM, 1,200m
Filthy is my best bet of the day. Second and then third from two runs, and now the four-year-old gets Ben Thompson. Thompson rides at a strike rate of almost one in four at Ipswich and places with close to six in ten, and 109 rides is plenty of evidence. Whiskey And Wine, who had placed at both runs in the past 90 days, is scratched, which takes out the most consistent rival.
The knock is weight. Filthy carries 60kg as topweight in a maiden handicap, and that is a real burden for a horse with only two runs behind it. The flip side is that both runs were in the first three, and barrier 4 at 1,200m should let Thompson take a sit just off the speed rather than burning fuel early. Todd Pollard does not have a huge Ipswich record, with one winner from nine runners, but the booking of the leading rider says the stable expects a bold run.
Anderlay is the danger, and I think the market has overlooked this one at $8.00 with Bet Right. A placing at the only Ipswich start, a 25 form line from two runs, and 4.5kg less than Filthy. Matthew Hoysted places 20 of his 33 Ipswich runners, and Fiona Sandkuhl hits the frame here close to half the time. If Filthy finds the weight too much, Anderlay is the one who picks up the pieces.
Plan Of Attack at $6.00 with Bet Right is the unknown: a three-year-old with one run for a ninth, who can only improve. Disparate brings the Gollan stable at $6.75 but has one run here for no placing.
Win bet on Filthy at $3.40 with Bet Right, with a smaller each-way bet on Anderlay.
Race 4: Barrier Reef Pools (Bm62), 3:35PM, 1,350m
Can anyone in this Bm62 match what Cantankerous has already done at Ipswich? Two starts here have produced a win and another placing, and the 9142 line shows a horse back on the right path after a lapse. Four runs in the past 90 days include three top-three finishes, one of them a win, so the form is current, not stale.
Matthew Hoysted has a second live chance on the card here, and Boris Thornton has placed in 17 of his 39 Ipswich rides. Barrier 3 at 1,350m is ideal, and 59kg is a fair weight for a horse at this level. No bookmaker market is up for this race yet, so judge the price when it appears; I would be comfortable at anything around the top of the market.
Divine Justice is the danger. A winner last time, Ben Thompson takes the ride, and Jack Bruce has won 15 times from 68 runners here. The only blemish is a single unplaced run at the track. Ed I Am also brings winning form, with back-to-back wins before the latest fifth. Win bet on Cantankerous, the multi anchor for the day.
Race 5: Fertpro (Bm60), 4:10PM, 1,100m
Two scratchings, Miss Wildcat and Hold My Hand, remove two of the more consistent runners, and over 1,100m this becomes a race where the horse that settles closest to the lead without a fight has the edge. Night Market should be that horse. The Gollan three-year-old jumps from barrier 1, carries 57kg, and arrives off a win at the latest start with a 5631 line that keeps getting better.
Angela Jones is a smart booking. She has won eight times from 39 Ipswich rides, and she has the gate to take the shortest route the whole way. Stepping up to Bm60 company as a three-year-old is the question, but the progression in that form line says there is more to come.
Final Voyage is the one to fear. Ben Thompson rides again, and the horse has hit the frame five times from six runs in the past 90 days but converted only once. Barrier 11 means Thompson will need luck from out there. Bellarata, another last-start winner, completes the trifecta picture. Win bet on Night Market.
Race 6: Gordon’s Gin (Bm60), 4:45PM, 1,100m
Profiteur’s Fil has not finished worse than third in the four runs on the form line, and as a three-year-old with 57kg meets the older horses on very good terms. The 3212 sequence includes a win, there is a placing from the only Ipswich run, and Jasper Franklin rides. Franklin has only 18 rides here, but he has turned five of them into winners and nine into placings.
The race lost four runners, including Bent Bridge and Custo, both of whom had strong recent form, so it is more open than it first looked. Barrier 9 is a little wide, but in a field of eleven Franklin has room to work.
Coincide is the danger and the real course horse on the card. Six Ipswich starts have produced two wins and one further placing, and Coincide gets in with 58.5kg. The latest ninth is the worry, and Colleen Krahnen has one placing from eleven rides here. Odin’s Mount and Heroic Chief both won last start but carry 60.5kg and 62.5kg. Win bet on Profiteur’s Fil, Coincide for a saver.
Race 7: Fouchard Racing (Bm62), 5:23PM, 1,680m
Does Baccarat Rouge‘s Ipswich record outweigh The Torque Factor‘s current form? One is a track winner looking to bounce back, the other a last-start winner with a big weight. I lean to the track horse.
Baccarat Rouge has run here four times for two wins, and William Kropp has trained six winners from 27 Ipswich runners. The latest seventh is the concern, but the horse won at the start before that and carries 58.5kg from barrier 4, which suits over 1,680m. With Hazey Hill, Crypto Magic and Damiani scratched, the field is down to eleven.
The Torque Factor is the main danger: a winner last time, placed at both Ipswich starts, and trained by Gregory Cornish, who runs a high place rate here. Yvette Lewis has two wins from eight rides at the course. The 60kg is the question at this trip. Inquicktime, a winner at its only Ipswich run, gets Ben Thompson and is a third chance. Each-way on Baccarat Rouge, with The Torque Factor in exotics.

Where the money goes
NAP: Filthy (Race 3, 2:55PM). Two placings from two runs and the best Ipswich jockey in the saddle; the 60kg is the only argument against, and a lightly raced horse on the way up should carry it.
Value: Blood Red (Race 1, 1:45PM). $5.00 with Unibet against a short favourite that has not placed at this track, and Taylor Marshall’s Ipswich record makes this the better ride. Odds are correct at time of writing.
Banker: Cantankerous (Race 4, 3:35PM). Placed in both Ipswich runs, three placings from four runs since mid July, and from a Hoysted yard that places in most of its runs here.
Each-way: Down Under Stunnah (Race 2, 2:20PM). Three Ipswich starts, three placings, and $6.25 with Bet Right in a field of six.
Course angle: Ben Thompson. He rides Filthy, Divine Justice, Final Voyage and Inquicktime, and his Ipswich record of 25 wins and 64 placings from 109 rides makes every one of them worth a look in these Ipswich racing tips.
If Hoysted keeps placing six of every ten runners at this track, his name on an Ipswich acceptance list will be worth checking every week.
