Kilmore Racing Tips 15 May 2026 — can Allen boss his best track again?

There are tracks where the map matters, and then there are tracks where the rider matters. Kilmore can be both, but when John Allen turns up with a live book, I stop pretending it’s all about spreadsheets and start reading intent. He’s ridden 12 winners’ chances here and converted five of them, and even when he doesn’t win he’s usually in the fight.

We’ve got a compact little Kilmore meeting (four races in the card we’re previewing), all on turf, and three maidens that look like they’ll be decided by who can hold a spot early and who can sustain a run when it turns into a sprint. These Kilmore racing tips are written the way you’d want them over the phone: who I’m with, who can beat us, and what I’d actually do with my money.

One note up top: there isn’t a stack of deep course history through the fields. Plenty have been here once. Treat that as a reference point, not a prophecy.

Kilmore — the setup

Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners with track stats have just one or two goes at Kilmore, so I’m leaning harder on current form, barriers and the people making the decisions.

What is worth respecting is the repeatable, grown up stuff: riders and stables with genuine volume here.

Jockeys with meaningful Kilmore records (5+ rides)

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
John Allen 12 5 6 41.67 50.00
W Gordon 19 3 10 15.79 52.63
B Rawiller 13 1 5 7.69 38.46
K Jennings 6 1 2 16.67 33.33
R J Hurdle 7 0 2 0.00 28.57
E J Walsh 7 0 1 0.00 14.29
Jett Stanley 5 0 2 0.00 40.00

Trainer angle worth paying for: Ben, Will & JD Hayes don’t just “run horses” at Kilmore, they hit the frame with them. They’ve had 16 runners here for four wins and 10 placings, and that’s enough volume to treat it as real, not noise.

Race-by-race – Kilmore predictions

Race 1: Bet365 Same Race Multi Mdn Plate — 13:00, 1599

Obon is the one I want to be with early. He’s the only runner in this field bringing a clean “I’m ready to win” profile off the page: form of 5-2 reads like a horse that’s already found the level and just needs the right run to finish it off. From gate 3, J Maskiell should be able to hold a spot without burning petrol, and over the mile at Kilmore that often counts for more than a flashy last 200.

The danger is Cold Aza Beer (gate 2). The form line (4-0637) isn’t pretty, but he draws to get every favour and he lands in a maiden again where plenty have had their chance. If he’s ever going to pinch one, it’s from that soft run scenario.

I’m happy to make Obon a straight play. Win bet. If you’re playing something small wider, Obon over Cold Aza Beer in exactas makes sense because both map to be prominent.

Race 2: Montmorency Probus Mdn Plate — 13:30, 1325

Here’s the puzzle: how many of these actually want to win a 1325 maiden, and how many are just filling up? I keep landing on Riverina Waltz. The form (09-53) says she’s finally putting it together, and from barrier 4 Lachlan King can give her the run every maiden horse dreams of, handy, cover, no excuses. King’s not a big winning jockey at Kilmore, but he rides plenty here and you don’t need magic, just position.

Stoneage Romeo is the danger. That “34/26-” form looks odd on the page but it screams one thing: he has ability and he’s been in the mix often enough. If he’s sound and forward enough first-up, he can simply be better than these.

One extra note: It’s Justa Guess has had one run at Kilmore and finished sixth. That’s not a knock or a tick, just a reminder she’s been here and didn’t explode. I’d rather back the one trending forward.

Staking: Win bet Riverina Waltz. Save on Stoneage Romeo if the market tells you he’s ready (firm late is usually the clue).

Race 3: Styles Construction Mdn Plate — 14:00, 1325

The market will probably want to make this about “who deserves it”, but I’d rather make it about who is easiest to ride. Johnny Tightlips looks the simplest horse in the race. He ran second at his only Kilmore start, and that’s the right kind of signal: he handled the place and he handled race pressure. Now he gets John Allen, and Allen at Kilmore isn’t subtle. He wins a big chunk of his rides here, and when he’s on a maiden chance you can assume the stable expects a result.

He also draws gate 7, which is fine if Allen can slide across and land one off the fence. If he’s three-wide no cover, we reassess in-run, but pre-race I’m trusting the rider to solve it.

Impactical is the danger. The 27-44 profile says he keeps turning up, and W Gordon is a proper Kilmore regular who hits the frame more often than not here. If this becomes a truly-run race (not a sit sprint), that sort of honesty can win maidens.

This is the best betting race on the card for me because the confidence comes from both horse and rider. Staking: Win bet Johnny Tightlips. If you’re playing multiples, this is your anchor.

Race 4: O’Briens Electrical Mdn Plate — 14:30, 1763

The stable move is the story here. The Hayes team bring Angel’s Gathering with a form line that screams “about to win”: 24-733. They’ve had enough runners at Kilmore to trust the placement, too, four wins and 10 placings from 16 starters. This is exactly the sort of race they knock off when they find the right maiden at the right trip.

He’s drawn 9 so it won’t be a picnic, but over 1763 you’ve got time to sort yourself out. If K Jennings can get him into a rhythm and not chase the speed early, the horse’s consistency should take over late. Also worth knowing: Jennings has ridden six times at Kilmore for a win and two placings. Not dominant, but competent.

Hit Squad is the obvious danger. He’s 22- and that’s the sort of profile you fear in a maiden: keeps finding one better, but is already at the right level. The worry is the draw (12). If he gets posted deep, Angel’s Gathering gets the economical run and that might be the difference.

Staking: Win bet Angel’s Gathering, with a small saver on Hit Squad if you want insurance against the “too good, too fit” runner.

The plays

NAP: Johnny Tightlips (Race 3, 14:00). Second on his only Kilmore run and now picks up John Allen, who’s 5 wins from 12 rides at this track. That’s the most reliable combination of proven course handling and a rider who converts.

Value: Riverina Waltz (Race 2, 13:30). The recent 5-3 finish reads like a horse improving into the right race. Barrier 4 lets her control her own luck.

Banker for multis: Johnny Tightlips again. If you only want one Kilmore best bets anchor, make it the Allen booking in the maiden that looks most straightforward.

Each-way/profile play: Angel’s Gathering (Race 4, 14:30). Three straight placings and the Hayes stable places their Kilmore runners well (10 placings from 16). Even if he bumps into one, he usually does enough to pay.

Course angle to keep: when Hayes show up at Kilmore with an in-form maiden, they don’t do it for sightseeing. Watch that pattern next meeting and you’ll get paid before everyone else catches on.
