Overview
Better By Far has run three times for three seconds, and on Tuesday it drops into a Kyneton maiden as a $1.50 favourite. G Waterhouse and A Bott have sent three runners to the track and won with two, and Jett Stanley, who has placed on six of his ten Kyneton rides, keeps the ride. If there is a day for the bridesmaid to get it done, this looks like it.
Seven races on a Good track run from 2:00PM to 5:00PM: three maidens to open, two BM56 sprints over 1218m and two BM62 races to finish, the last over 1887m. Course form among the runners is almost non-existent, so our Kyneton racing tips lean on recent form, the riders who know the track and a couple of bookings that look deliberate. Prices were up for the first four races when this was written; the last three had no live market yet.
What Kyneton gives us today
Limited course form across today’s fields. Only one runner, Ryanman, has had three or more starts here, and it has placed at all three. Most of the horses with a Kyneton run have had one or two.
The riders are a different story. W Egan has placed on six of his eight Kyneton rides, D W Stackhouse has won two of six, and Lachlan King has five wins from 16. John Allen brings the biggest sample, with five wins from 25.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| W Egan | 8 | 2 | 6 | 25.0 | 75.0 |
| D W Stackhouse | 6 | 2 | 4 | 33.3 | 66.7 |
| Jett Stanley | 10 | 2 | 6 | 20.0 | 60.0 |
| Jordan Childs | 5 | 1 | 3 | 20.0 | 60.0 |
| John Allen | 25 | 5 | 12 | 20.0 | 48.0 |
| Lachlan King | 16 | 5 | 5 | 31.3 | 31.3 |
Among trainers, Liam Howley has won with four of his 12 Kyneton runners, and Ben Brisbourne has three from 11. The Hayes stable has placed with half of its 18 runners but won with only one.
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Noblet | 9 | 1 | 5 | 11.1 | 55.6 |
| Ben, Will & JD Hayes | 18 | 1 | 9 | 5.6 | 50.0 |
| D E Dean | 6 | 1 | 3 | 16.7 | 50.0 |
| Liam Howley | 12 | 4 | 5 | 33.3 | 41.7 |

Kyneton race by race
Race 1: Carlton Draught Mdn Plate, 2:00PM, 1479m
Tuzemak has placed in two of its last three runs, second last time, and earned $13,700 in the last 90 days without winning, which in a maiden is the sort of profile that eventually pays. D W Stackhouse rides, and he has won two of his six Kyneton rides and placed on four. Barrier 4 gives him options over 1479m.
The market has it at $2.25 with Bet Right, which is short but fair. Sondera is the interesting one at $4.80 with Unibet: a C J Waller runner with Jye McNeil, who has won on two of his three rides here. Its fourth last time is a starting point rather than a reason to back it. The Underquoter is the same price with Unibet after a fifth on debut. Golden Rainbow and Pandie Pandie are scratched. Tuzemak to win.
Race 2: Woodside Park Mdn Plate, 2:30PM, 1118m
Three starts, three seconds, and a $1.50 quote with Bet Right. Better By Far has done everything except win, and its one run in the last 90 days was worth $18,600, which tells you the races it has been placing in were not soft ones. Waterhouse and Bott have won with two of their three Kyneton runners, and Stanley has placed on six of ten here.
The worry is barrier 10 in a sprint, but with Fox Phire, Miss Verona and Miss Home Body scratched the field is smaller and the wide gate costs less. Unwavering is the newcomer to respect at $6.25 with Bet Right; G M Begg has placed three of his four runners here and Jordan Childs rides. With Benefits, another debutant, is $8.50 with Unibet. Better By Far is the banker for multis. Too short to bet on its own, but the anchor leg.
Race 3: Hygain Mdn Plate, 3:00PM, 1218m
Does a second last time make Bourne Legacy the right favourite at $2.45 with Bet Right? It ran second last time after a fifth and a seventh, and A & S Freedman train it. M J Dee rides from barrier 7.
Merry Chase is the unraced danger at $4.60 with Unibet for C W McDonald. Count Chevalier at $12.00 with Unibet is the each-way angle: third last time, a placing from two recent runs, and a Hayes stable that places with half of its Kyneton runners. Five horses are scratched, including Zouie and Bohemian Blitz, which takes out two of the more consistent runners. Bourne Legacy to win, small each-way on Count Chevalier.
Race 4: Sole Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (Bm56), 3:30PM, 1218m
The market has Bliss Bomb as the $2.90 favourite with Bet Right, but one placing from three recent runs is a thin case for that price. We prefer Please Me Do at $4.20 with Unibet. It won last time, it has a win and a placing from two Kyneton starts, and its two runs in the last 90 days were worth $14,740. Barrier 1 is the ideal draw over 1218m.
Kamezali, at $3.60 with Bet Right, ran second last time and has John Allen aboard, and Allen has five Kyneton wins from 25 rides. Hexed also won last start and is $8.00 with Unibet. Dancingonmyown and Break The Taboo are scratched. Please Me Do to win; at the price it is the value bet of the day here.
Race 5: Evolve Interiors (Bm56), 4:00PM, 1218m
Manchego and Ryanman are built differently. Manchego is the in-form horse: a win and a placing from two recent runs worth $13,860, and a form line of 3831 that ends in a win. John Allen rides for T & C McEvoy. Ryanman is the course horse, the only runner on the whole card with three Kyneton starts, and it placed at all three. W Egan, who places on six of his eight rides here, keeps the ride.
Manchego gets our vote, because winning form is harder to find than course form in a BM56. Ryanman is the each-way saver. Colt Forty Five has placed twice from three recent runs. Rattle’n’roll is worth a glance only because of the Lachlan King and Ben Brisbourne booking. Headstock, Western Lane, Becauseyou’re Mine and Kilmister are scratched. No market yet. Manchego to win, Ryanman for the place.
Race 6: Bet365 Kyneton Cup Wed Nov 4 (Bm62), 4:30PM, 1479m
Five last-start winners and one horse that just keeps placing. Russian Front, Seeyou Raider, Brroosha, Earl Of Gloucester and Our Pierro all won their latest race, which makes this the deepest race on the card.
Brutify is our pick precisely because it doesn’t need things to go right. It has finished in the first three at four of its five runs in the last 90 days, worth $25,340, and placed at both of its Kyneton starts. D W Stackhouse rides from barrier 1, which over 1479m means the shortest way home.
Our Pierro won on its only Kyneton start and comes off a win, so it is the danger. Aubaine has the most prize money in the field from recent runs, $29,670, though it was sixth last time. Titan Of Choice is scratched. Brutify each-way.
Race 7: Bet365 Same Race Multi (Bm62), 5:00PM, 1887m
Lachlan King and Ben Brisbourne have combined four times at Kyneton and won three of them. That pairing sends out The Quiet Immortal in the last, and the horse has done everything right lately: four runs in 90 days, all in the first three and two of them wins, worth $34,610.
The challenge is barrier 15. Over 1887m there is time to drop in and find a spot, but King will need to decide early whether to push forward or go back. If he gets cover in the first 400m, The Quiet Immortal has the strongest recent form in the race and should be finishing over the top.
Frostration has been busier, with two wins from seven recent runs and $35,300 in prize money, but it was eighth last time. Mr Margolin has placed in all three of its recent starts and won one, with Thomas Stockdale riding. Sound Of Jura won last time. Haiiro, Super Mirage and Jackand are scratched. The Quiet Immortal is our best bet at Kyneton. Win bet, with Mr Margolin in the exacta.

Where the money goes
NAP: The Quiet Immortal (Race 7, 5:00PM). Placed at all four recent runs, won two, and ridden by the jockey whose partnership with this stable has won three of four at the track.
Value: Please Me Do (Race 4, 3:30PM), $4.20 with Unibet. A last-start winner with a win from two Kyneton runs and the inside gate. The favourite has less form.
Banker: Better By Far (Race 2, 2:30PM). Three seconds from three starts and a stable that has won two of three here. The leg to start any multi.
Each-way: Brutify (Race 6, 4:30PM). Four top-three finishes from five recent runs and both Kyneton starts placed. In a race full of last-start winners, consistency is the edge.
Course angle: D W Stackhouse. Two wins and four placings from six Kyneton rides, and he is on Tuzemak, Brutify and Mike’s Hope today.
If Better By Far finally wins, the Waterhouse and Bott stable will be three from four at Kyneton, and their runners here will need a closer look every time.
