Mildura Racing Tips 18 July 2026 — Can Codename finally land it?

Racingbase Staff Racingbase Staff

Opening

There’s one kind of runner I love betting in country maidens: the one that keeps turning up, keeps being there at the business end, and keeps finding a way to lose. Because when that horse finally gets the right map, the right gate, and a field without a new star in it, the breakthrough can look obvious in hindsight.

That’s the story I’m reading into Codename at Mildura today. He’s been living in the placings lately, and this race sets up for him to stop being the “always around the mark” horse and start being the “job done” horse. Below are my Mildura racing tips for Saturday, 18 July 2026. One race on turf, a compact field, and a very clear question to answer: who actually wants to win it?

Mildura — the setup

Turf at Mildura, with limited course history across today’s runners. No one in this maiden brings the sort of 5 plus run “I own this joint” record that lets you lean hard on track specialist angles, so the race hinges more on current form shape, barrier speed, and which jockeys tend to make good decisions here.

On the rider front, there is one course note worth respecting: B Rawiller has 5 rides at Mildura for 2 wins and 3 placings. That’s enough volume to treat it as a real positive, not just a lucky afternoon.

Race-by-race tips

Race 1: Mildura & District Real Estate Mdn Plate — 12:56, 1094m

Codename is the one I want to be on, and I want to be on him early if the price is fair when markets settle. The recent form line reads like a horse begging for the right break: 5-3334. He’s not just flashing once and going missing, he keeps holding a spot and giving you a run for your money. Over the last 90 days he’s gone 4 runs for 4 placings, with an average finish of 2.25. That profile usually wins a maiden sooner rather than later, and it’s the most reliable form base in this field.

The other big tick is the map. He jumps from gate 3 in a small field at 1094m. That’s the kind of draw that lets Logan Mcneil land him in the first three or four without burning petrol. Mcneil’s Mildura record isn’t flashy across a meaningful sample yet, but he has at least hit the frame here (4 rides, 1 placing). You don’t need a track wizard if the race hands you the run.

The danger is Renege. He’s the grinder type who has been edging closer (9-55442), and the barrier 2 gives Alana Kelly options: hold a prominent spot or sit one one the fence and wait for gaps. Kelly has enough experience at this track to matter: 8 rides here for 2 wins. If she gets first crack turning for home and Codename has to come around backs, that’s the way Renege turns the tables.

The horse I’m forgiving at odds is Four On The Floor, purely off the jockey booking. Rawiller rides Mildura well and gate 1 is a gift in a race without a heap of early speed on paper. The form is ugly (0/59-8), so he’s not a main play, but he can easily run into the placings if he controls the rail.

Staking: Win bet Codename. Small saver quinella with Renege if you like protecting the obvious danger. If Codename drifts to a backable price late, I’d lean in again rather than getting cute.

The plays

I’m keeping it simple at Mildura because the card asks for it. The race has one runner with a rock solid recent profile, one runner with a clean map and a capable rider who can make it hard, and then a handful of question marks that need sharp improvement.

NAP: Codename (Race 1, 12:56). Four placings from his last four runs tells you he’s fit, genuine, and ready to capitalise when the race falls his way.

Value: Renege each-way if the market pushes him out. The inside draw and Kelly’s experience here give him a path to pinch it if the favourite gets held up.

Banker for multis: Codename top 2. In a small field with his recent consistency, that’s the safest way to play if you hate maiden heartache.

Each-way angle: If you’re shopping for a place bet, Renege is the logical one given his recent run of improving finishes.

Course angle to note: Rawiller rides Mildura with intent, and he’s on the inside gate today. Even if you don’t back Four On The Floor, watch how he uses barrier 1 because that pattern can pay next time you see him here with a horse that can actually finish off.

FAQ

What time does racing start at Mildura today?

Racing starts at 12:56 with the Mildura & District Real Estate Maiden Plate over 1094m.

Who are the top jockeys at Mildura on today’s card?

From the riders engaged in Race 1, B Rawiller stands out: 5 rides at Mildura for 2 wins and 3 placings. Alana Kelly also has a meaningful sample here with 2 wins from 8 rides.

Who are the top trainers at Mildura today?

On the limited Mildura sample we have for the stables in this race, there’s no trainer on the card with big volume at the track. Brent Stanley brings two runners in this maiden (Codename and the debutant Red Fantasy), but his Mildura trainer record in the supplied stats is based on just one prior runner, so treat it as a note, not an edge.

What are the best bets at Mildura today?

The Mildura best bet is Codename in Race 1 (12:56). He comes in off four straight placings and draws to get the right run from gate 3.

Where can I find the best odds for Mildura races?

Live Mildura odds weren’t available in the odds feed for Race 1 at the time of writing, so the best move is to compare prices directly with your preferred bookmakers closer to jump time. When markets do publish, shop around because small-field maidens can swing sharply late.

If Stanley keeps turning up to Mildura with runners that are already fit and in the finish like Codename, it’ll be a stable worth following here even before the market catches on.
