Race 8 No. 14 REFRESHING- ($4.20)

Hoping the second emergency, REFRESHING, can sneak into the field for the final race of the day. The Mike Moroney-trained galloper was a winner on the Heavy at Sandown earlier this preparation and was 4th at that track at her most recent start. That came over the 1300m in a BenchMark 70 and she closed off steadily from back in the field in what was a slowly run race early on. The daughter of Star Turn drops in grade for this assignment and tempo in this affair looks a bit better on paper. She can challenge them at the business end.

Race 1 No 2 FALL OF ROME- ($8)

This might be the one for FALL OF ROME to break through. The five-year-old is yet to win in six starts but has been knocking on the door on Heavy tracks of late and should get conditions to suit on Friday with plenty of rain around. His last two starts have been at Warrnambool and he just faded late two starts ago when 3rd before a last start effort that saw him loom as the winner before being gunned down late by Land Of Heroes. The son of Warhorse gapped the 3rd placegetter in that run and has gone just two lengths slower than standard benchmark at his last couple of runs, which compares favourably to this lot. Look for him to settle in or near the lead and be hard to get past late in the piece.
