Morphettville Racing Tips 25 April 2026 — can Stokes land the big 2yo?

The early Morphettville story today sits in one race: the Sportsbet Breeders’ Stakes. Peter Stokes doesn’t just turn up in juvenile features to make up the numbers, and he’s got multiple bullets again. The tricky bit for punters is working out which profile you want to buy: the horse with exposed class at the track, the one with the winning habit, or the one that might have the biggest leap in it at 1312 metres.

There are only two races on the program in the data set we have, both on turf, and both at 1312m. That actually helps, because you can keep your thinking clean: barriers matter, speed placement matters, and any runner that can hold a spot without burning fuel becomes a serious threat. These Morphettville racing tips are written for people who want the why, not just a list of names.

Morphettville — the setup

We don’t have an official going rating in the feed, so keep an eye on late track updates and pattern in the first couple of races. With both races at 1312m, I’m leaning toward runners that can land in the first half of the field without doing work, especially those drawn to either take a sit or control.

Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have one or two starts here, so treat “track stats” as context, not gospel.

One course angle you can take seriously: Jamie Melham has five rides at Morphettville in the relevant sample and she’s won three of them, placing in all five. That’s real evidence, not a one-ride spike, and it matters when she lands on a progressive 3yo in the opener.

Race-by-race Morphettville predictions

Race 1: Lest We Forget Hcp (68) — 12:41, 1312

The question here is whether you want proven course performance or upside from the lighter weights. I’m siding with Over Yonder. This horse has three runs at Morphettville for a win and another placing, and that’s enough of an emerging pattern to trust the map and the placement. The recent form is solid too: over the last 90 days he’s gone around four times for one win and three placings. That’s the profile of a horse that keeps turning up and giving you a sight, which is exactly what you want in a handicap where plenty have patchy form.

The obvious danger is Regal Secret, and it’s not hard to see why. He won on his only start at Morphettville and he comes off a last-start win (form line ends in 1). The knock is the gate: barrier 13 at 1312m can turn a nice horse into a hostage if the speed is on and you’re stuck wide or forced to snag back.

If you want the “class rider move” in the race, Redders gets Mark Zahra and that always raises the ceiling, but the colt is still learning (8-1628) and I’d rather bet the reliable profile than the hope.

Staking: Win bet Over Yonder. Save small on Regal Secret if you’re worried he finds cover from the outside draw.

Race 2: Sportsbet Breeders’ Stakes — 13:16, 1312

This is the best betting race on the card because we’ve got a proper mix of profiles and at least one horse that looks ready to run right up to the level again. I keep landing on Ole Go. He’s already shown he handles Morphettville with two visits for a win and another placing, and the recent record backs up that he’s come back in good order: in the last 90 days he’s had two runs for one win and he hasn’t missed the frame. From gate 1 Todd Pannell can ride him with options: hold the fence if it’s playing fair, or pop off at the right time if the inside chops up.

The horse that can beat him is Verzain, and the case is straightforward: the colt has the winning habit (form 221), he’s already won here and he gets in with 122.3. The negative is the map: barrier 7 over 1312m can be a touch awkward if there’s speed drawn inside and you’re posted early.

Wonderful Sky is the “right connections, right form” runner with Craig Williams up and a tidy 21 form line, but he’s drawn 8 and may need things to go his way at the bend. Harry Met Sally has enough talent to measure up (9-3412) and gets Zahra, but I’m not taking him over the top two unless the market completely forgets him.

Staking: Win bet Ole Go. Exacta saver Ole Go with Verzain.

The plays

NAP: Ole Go (Race 2, 13:16). Two starts at Morphettville for a win and a placing, plus a sharp recent profile. From gate 1, the race shape should come to him rather than the other way around.

Value: Over Yonder (Race 1, 12:41). He’s the type that keeps turning up and paying you back: three Morphettville runs for a win and another placing, and he’s placed in three of his last four overall. If the market pushes him out because of the bigger field and the wide gates around him, I’ll happily take it.

Banker for multis: Ole Go to run top two. The inside draw and the proven track run are the two anchors in an otherwise tricky juvenile feature.

Each-way angle: Verzain. He’s already won at the track and he brings a proper winning habit, even if the draw forces him to do a bit early.

Course angle to file away: When Jamie Melham turns up at Morphettville, she doesn’t waste rides. Five rides in the sample for three wins and five placings is a serious strike, and it’s worth tracking every time she’s booked for a horse with upside here.
