The main reason I want him is that this race has a few that keep landing in the same spot without finishing it off.
The race shape feels like it can be messy. There isn’t an obvious tearaway, but there are enough runners who don’t want to be last that the first 300m can be frantic. From there it becomes a positioning contest, and the horse with upside usually wins those at 1715m.
The danger is Vaninetti. The form line 4-7741 reads like a horse who finally found the right setup, and Brooke King can keep her balanced without panicking. She also gets in lighter (119.0), and if the leaders overdo it early, she’s the one who can pinch it with the last run.
Course notes, but keep them honest: Pierroplane has placed on his only Morphettville start, and Canny Defense has also placed on his only visit here. That’s reassuring, not decisive.

The danger is Eight On The Dot, because he’s the one with the most reliable “turn up and run well” pattern at this track among the key hopes. He’s four runs here for a win and another placing, and his current form 025113 suggests he’s holding form. Gate 11 at this trip is a decision: go back and trust the stamina, or work forward and risk the long run. If Caitlin Tootell gets that call right, he’s right in the finish.
For the roughie angle, Aristonous appeals as the grinder. His form 532127 says he’s always around the mark, and Teodore Nugent is a cool head in races that can turn into a mid-race squeeze.
