The other big tick is the set of hands around her. Ray Viney has a proper, repeatable record at this course (35 starters, 8 wins, 13 placings), and Jessie Philpot rides Pioneer Park as well as anyone, striking at 7 wins from 28 here. If you’re betting on a small field BM54 on sand, you want competence and intent. This has both.
The danger is Lean On Me. He’s trending the right way on paper (form 75-541) and he’s done enough here across three course runs to suggest the track suits. He also gets Lek Maloney, another rider who regularly puts horses into the race at Pioneer Park. The concern is the setup: drawn 6 with 127.8, he’ll likely need to do at least a little work, and that’s where sand races can punish the eager ones late.
I’m also keeping one eye on Better Not Fuss from gate 1. The form line reads like frustration (2223-4) and this is his first real chance to control a run from the inside. But he’s carrying 131.1, and if he gets sticky at the wrong time, he invites something smoother to go past.
