She’s Extra (gate 5) is the obvious starting point because she’s already doing the hard part: winning. The “11” formline says she’s undefeated, and in a 2yo handicap over six furlongs that’s a serious edge because plenty of these are either first-starters or still learning how to put a race away. She concedes weight (126.7lb) but she gets a soft enough alley to land in the first half without burning fuel.
The one I’m most wary of is Leonessa (gate 1), simply because Waller and McDonald is the most reliable problem-setter on this program. McDonald wins nearly three in every ten rides at Randwick and hits the frame just under half the time, so even if the filly’s “6” last start doesn’t read like a knockout, the booking tells you they’ve come here expecting her to be competitive. From barrier 1 she’ll either get the dream trail or she’ll get cluttered, and that’s the risk you accept.
Naadra (Tommy Berry) and Chataigne (Rachel King) both have enough exposed form to be included, but neither screams “I’m better than this grade” off what we’ve got in front of us, and the Randwick horse stats for Naadra are only one run here so you can’t lean on it too hard.
Play: Win bet She’s Extra. Small saver on Leonessa if the market gives you back anything fair because the inside draw and the McDonald factor can make a race look very different at the 200m.

Here’s the race I actually want to bet into because the puzzle has edges you can hold. Superata (gate 4) looks ready to win one. That “24-234” profile is the sort of consistent, knock-on-the-door form that gets rewarded in a midweek Randwick maiden, and she’s already run 2nd on her only start at this track. She carries 130lb, but she doesn’t strike me as a filly you want to nurse for one sprint: the extra ground to 1422m reads as a plus for a horse that keeps turning up and running well.
The booking helps too. Rawiller is a proper Randwick operator with enough rides here (39) to take his place stats seriously, and he lands in the money often enough that you can trust him to give you a chance even if the race turns messy.
The danger is the one you can’t ignore on any Sydney maiden page: Aladdin’s Girl (gate 6), Waller and McDonald. She’s been around the mark (form “443-”), she carries a lighter 124.5lb than Superata, and she gets the jockey who wins 28.85% of his Randwick rides. If you’re betting, you have to decide whether you want to pay for the stable and rider combo, or take the more exposed runner who keeps doing everything right.
Metallic Cat (gate 1) is the sneaky pace map horse. Waterhouse and Bott can control races when they draw low and Clark is capable of putting them in the right lanes, but their Randwick strike-rate sits well below the elite stables. They place plenty though, so if you’re playing wider exotics this is the type that can stick on.

Race 3: 2026 Keeneland Breeders’ Cup Hcp — 14:55, 1203m
Does the Waterhouse and Bott trio turn this into a speed test, or does it become a wide-runner’s lottery? That’s the whole race.
Drumfire (gate 1) is my pick because he ticks two boxes that matter in juvenile handicaps: he’s already won (form “1”), and he’s drawn to get first crack at the good spots. If Clark can hold a position behind the leaders or even dictate, the rest have to be good enough to run him down, not just flash late when it’s all over.
Don’t Look Back has the same “I’ve won already” profile and draws 5, which is fine, but you’re asking a lot of a less-established jockey at Randwick on the numbers we have. Three rides here isn’t a trend, it’s just three rides. I’d rather be with the horse that can take luck out of it from the inside.
The big watch horse is Lafite (Tommy Berry for Waller) from gate 12. That’s the kind of set-up where the market often overreacts one way or the other. If she has ability, she can still win, but you’re paying for a scenario: clean air early, slot in, and Berry producing her at the right time. Each-way angle: I’d rather keep it simple today. If you want a place-heavy play, Aladdin’s Girl (Race 2) makes sense because McDonald hits the frame 48.08% of the time at Randwick across 52 rides, and this filly has been around the placings in her lead-up form.
