Rockhampton Racing Tips 13 Aug 2026 — can Kendrick and Taylor keep rolling?
Rockhampton, 13 August: the locals you ignore at your own risk
If you’re betting Rockhampton and you’re not starting with the trainers, you’re doing it backwards. S W Kendrick wins more than a third of his runners here and hits the frame nearly three-quarters of the time (47 runners of evidence, not a two-horse sample). G K Taylor</strong is even sharper on strike rate, winning a touch over two from every five runners he saddles up at the track from 24 runners, and he’s around the money often enough to keep you in the game.
That’s the spine of today’s Rockhampton racing tips: follow the stables that repeatedly place horses to peak at this course, then let the barriers and race shape do the final sorting. We’ve only got three races in the supplied card data, all on turf, and the meeting reads like typical Rocky: a couple of maidens where you need to decide who’s actually ready to win, then a handicap where proven track runners matter.
You’ll get a clear pick in every race, one danger that can beat it, and the bet I’d actually place.
Rockhampton — the setup
Limited deep course history across today’s fields. Most runners have only one or two starts at Rockhampton, so I’m not going to dress up tiny samples as “track specialists”. Where we do have meaningful volume, it’s in the jockey and trainer profiles.
Jockey-wise, MS S Tierney is the standout local weapon: 50 rides at Rockhampton for 14 wins and 32 placings, so she’s in the frame nearly two rides out of three. W G Satherley is the high-volume option (81 rides) and still wins often enough to matter, while R Wiggins has a very healthy place profile from 51 rides.

Race-by-race: Rockhampton predictions
Race 1: Great Northern Mdn Hcp — 13:17, 1312m
It’sall About Mary gets me from the jump. She’s the one with the clearest “ready to win” profile in a race full of guesswork: a string of racing (6202) that says she’s learned her job, and she’s drawn to get a clean run without needing luck (gate 6). R Wiggins is a strong Rocky rider on volume, and this filly has already placed on her only start at Rockhampton, which matters here even if it’s just one run.
The other reason I’m leaning her way is the weight map. She’s not giving away a stack (127.8lb), and in these provincial maidens the horse that can hold a position and keep building tends to beat the ones that need everything to go right.
Do A Little Dance is the danger because the form reads like a horse that keeps finding the money (23), and Billy Healey places runners exceptionally well at this track. The catch is barrier 8 and top weight (132.2lb). If Cartwright has to work early, the finish can flatten out.
Bet: Win bet It’sall About Mary. Small saver quinella with Do A Little Dance if you want insurance.
Race 2: Tab Hcp (C5) — 13:57, 1531m
The market usually overreacts to “class” in these country handicaps and underreacts to Rockhampton craft. That pushes me straight to Hou Long Gwai. He’s a proper Rocky horse now: five runs here for a win and another placing, and he’s the one runner in this field with enough local evidence to take seriously without squinting.
He also lands in the sweet spot at the weights (116.8lb). If this is run at anything above a dawdle, the lighter-weighted runner who can travel and quicken late is the one I want holding the ticket. Tom Orr isn’t a high strike-rate Rocky jockey, but the setup suits a rider who can keep it simple: find cover, peel, build.
Ask Me Mate is the obvious threat and probably the “safe” horse for trifectas: four goes at the track, two placings, and he keeps holding his form without winning (4-5343). He’ll get back off gate 6, so he’s relying on a clear lane at the right time.
Lonergy adds another layer from gate 2. He has five course runs for a win and another placing, and that inside draw can turn into a cheap run if Nikki Olzard can hold a spot.
Bet: Win bet Hou Long Gwai. Exacta saver Hou Long Gwai to beat Ask Me Mate.

Race 3: Premier Racehorse – Pride Of Venus Mdn Hcp — 14:34, 1148m
This is the race where you can either get paid or get annoyed, and it comes down to whether you trust the lightly-raced 3yo with the draw or the older legs with the exposed form.
I’m siding with Ready As Bam. He’s the only runner in the field that screams “maps to win”: gate 1 over 1148m at Rockhampton is gold if you’ve got even average early speed, and he’s already hinted at ability with a 4 then a 3 in his two-start form line. Glenn Richardson doesn’t need to do anything fancy here, and Hannah Richardson can ride him like the best horse and make the rest come around him.
British Navy is the danger because he’s the hardened maiden who keeps putting himself there (956432). He’s also one of the few with a bit of course evidence: two starts at Rockhampton for a placing. If they go too slowly and it turns into a sprint from the bend, that race fitness can trump the young horse’s upside.
I can’t talk you out of Manoftheland as an include if you’re spreading in multiples, but his recent record is only one run in the last 90 days window and he finished fourth, and he’s lugging 132.2lb from gate 7. That’s a lot of “do it the hard way” in a short-course maiden.
Bet: Win bet Ready As Bam. If you want a safer play, go each-way British Navy and accept you might miss the winner.
The plays
NAP: Hou Long Gwai (Race 2, 13:57). Proven enough at Rockhampton to trust, and the handicap conditions finally hand him the kind of weight that lets him finish the job.
Value: British Navy (Race 3, 14:34) each-way. He’s the sort of maiden that keeps turning up in the finish, and he’s already placed on one of his two Rockhampton visits.
Banker for multis: It’sall About Mary (Race 1, 13:17) to place. The recent 2nd says she’s right there, and the draw lets Wiggins ride her like she belongs.
Course angle: keep siding with the Kendrick and Taylor camps at this track. Kendrick wins more than a third of his Rockhampton runners and places nearly three out of four, while Taylor’s strike rate here is elite from real volume. When their runners look even half-ready on paper, you pay attention.
If Kendrick keeps turning Rockhampton into his own backyard at this rate, the “stable first, form second” approach stays the simplest way to bet the meeting.
