Rosehill Racing Tips 10 Oct 2026 — can Call Me Sassy keep rolling?

Racingbase Staff Racingbase Staff

Rosehill on Saturday feels like one of those cards where you either side with the horses trending the right way, or you go broke trying to revive the ones whose best work is behind them.

Call Me Sassy is the hook for me. She is not hiding in the weights, she is not sneaking around in small fields, and her recent form says she is in the mood to win again. Add in the fact she has already handled Rosehill twice and you have the sort of profile punters can build around.

We have two races on the turf, the track is rated Good, and both contests sit in that sweet spot where barrier and race shape matter as much as raw ability. These Rosehill racing tips are written to get you to a decision quickly, with enough reasoning that you can agree or tell me I have completely lost it.

Rosehill, the setup

Good ground at Rosehill usually rewards horses that can hold a spot and quicken, but you still want runners that can absorb a bit of pressure. Both races today look like they will be run with a decent tactical element rather than a straight line sprint home, so I am leaning toward horses that can land in the first half without burning.

Course form is a little mixed across today’s fields. A lot of runners have only one or two Rosehill starts, so treat the track numbers as support, not gospel. The exceptions are the regular riders and a couple of older horses who have been here enough times to give us something real.

Among the jockeys with a proper body of Rosehill work, Zac Lloyd stands out: 92 rides here for 26 wins and 48 placings. Nick Rawiller also hits the frame more often than not, with 60 rides, 10 wins and 32 placings.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Zac Lloyd 92 26 48 28.26 52.17
N Rawiller 60 10 32 16.67 53.33
Tim Clark 83 15 32 18.07 38.55
Tommy Berry 98 11 33 11.22 33.67
K McEvoy 70 6 30 8.57 42.86
Siena Grima 71 9 27 12.68 38.03

Trainer-wise, the volume stables are exactly who you would expect to show up well at Rosehill. Richard and Will Freedman bring plenty here and they win 7 of their 40 Rosehill runners, with 18 placings. That is a stable you respect in these sorts of mid-range handicaps.

Race-by-race

Race 1: Midway (Bm72) — 12:35, 1531m

I’m with Call Me Sassy and I want to be paid for it in the win market. The form line is the selling point: 273331 tells you she has been building pressure on these races and now she is in that confident rhythm where she finds the line. She also gets in with 115.7, which matters in a Midway when plenty of the field is lugging 123 and up.

The draw is not perfect in 12, but she does not need to lead. If her rider can slide in midfield with cover, she looks the one most likely to peel and sustain a run.

Two Rosehill runs reads well without over-selling it: she has won once and placed in both visits here. That is enough to say she handles the place.

The danger is Force March. The horse is in the opposite kind of groove, with 342211 and a kinder gate in 5 that can put him right where he wants to be. If Force March controls the middle section and kicks, Call Me Sassy will need to be rolling by the 400 rather than waiting for gaps.

A smaller, sneakier threat is Powder Man. Rawiller climbs aboard and he rides Rosehill like someone who knows where the winning lanes are. Powder Man’s recent string 2-46521 says he is still willing, and barrier 8 gives options.

Staking: Win bet Call Me Sassy. If you are playing exactas, save with Force March running 1st or 2nd, because he looks the horse most likely to get the cheap run.

Race 2: Tab Highway Hcp (C3) — 13:10, 1640m

Does the market keep forgiving King Of Dragons, or do we finally take the hint? I am leaning the other way. His recent record is hard to love, and the Rosehill history is blunt: two runs here, beaten a long way both times, with an average finishing position of 13.5. That is not a “maybe he likes the track” scenario, that is a “prove it” scenario.

Magic Merlin is the one I want. The form reads like a horse that turns up to compete every time: 241131. From gate 4, J R Collett can hold a position without overworking, and in a Class 3 over the mile that is half the battle.

The danger is Costalivin. Four runs for 1521 screams upside, and Tim Clark is the right sort of rider for a horse that might want a clean run into the race. He also draws 3, so he should get first crack at the spot behind the speed.

If you want a roughie with a story, Ocean Tsunami brings the cheeky angle: won last start (202241) and gets the inside gate. But his only Rosehill run ended down the field, so I am not calling him a track horse, just a gate horse who can make his own luck if the race turns tactical.

Staking: Magic Merlin win. Small saver on Costalivin if you want cover against the improver profile.

The plays

NAP: Call Me Sassy (Race 1, 12:35). She has won one of her last two and placed in all four runs in the last 90 days, and the weight drop gives her a clean edge in a handicap like this.

Value angle: If the market leans too heavily to the higher-weighted older horses in Race 1, keep coming back to the simple map plus weight combo: Call Me Sassy does not need miracles from barrier 12 if she lands midfield and gets the last crack.

Banker for multis: Magic Merlin (Race 2, 13:10) as a win anchor. He is the most reliable profile in that race, and gate 4 keeps him out of traffic.

Each-way mindset: Costalivin has the profile that makes place betting feel sensible: light racing, strong recent figures on form, and a soft gate for Tim Clark to use.

Course angle for the day: When Rawiller rides Rosehill, he hits the frame more than half the time from meaningful volume. If Powder Man drifts in Race 1, I would rather have him in the mix than one of the wide-drawn swoopers needing everything to go right.

Keep an eye on how riders from double-digit gates are approaching the first bend today. If they are able to slot in without spending, that changes how you price wide draws at Rosehill in the next few meetings.
