Moonee Valley Tips 27/01/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 8 No. 5 MORNINGTON GLORY ($2.80)
This looks a winnable race for MORNINGTON GLORY. The Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper is on the short back-up after winning well at Flemington over the 1000m last weekend. He seemed to relish the drop to the 1000m for the first time, putting in a career best by going 11.5 lengths faster than standard. Barrier 5 is a plus and we can expect to see him land close to the speed in the early stages. Beau Mertens sticks on board and has ridden he son of Shalaa six times for two wins and three placings.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 1 No. 1 ACID WASH ($2.30)
Big win by ACID WASH at Cranbourne on January 5 over the 1400m and the Clinton McDonald-trained galloper can go on with the job in the opener at Moonee Valley. At Cranbourne, the son of American Pharaoh did enjoy a very soft time of it up front but was way too good, winning by six lengths from Vilnius. Worth noting that horse has since gone on to score at Geelong, while the 4th placegetter has since won at Cranbourne. Jamie Kah rides and might look to cross from the barrier. The pair will take some beating.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 9 VERY SEWREEL ($2.80)
Keen on VERY SEWREEL in Race 3. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper comes into this fourth up and should be at her peak. She has led at her past two before being run down. Last of those was at Flemington behind the promising Otago, going six lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is five lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. Moonee Valley should suit the front runner.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No.5 WYCLIF ($5.50)
I don’t mind WYCLIF with the light weight in Race 6 of the afternoon at Moonee Valley. The Maher/Eustace galloper was excellent two starts ago at Listed level at Sandwich when runner-up behind Baby Rider before battling on the Soft deck in the Group 3 Sumer Cup (2000m). She should find this a tad easier and gets back on top of the ground. She went 12 lengths faster than standard two starts ago and seven lengths faster last time. Anything around those figures should see her be very competitive here.
