Mornington Tips 20/04/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 10 No. 4 DASHING- ($3.50)

This looks to be a suitable assignment for DASHING. The four-year-old has had the two runs this time in and overraced when resuming with a 3rd behind Johnny Rocker, who then went on to go very close to running down Imperatriz in the William Reid Stakes (1200m). Dashing then stepped up to the 1400m and settled handy in a strongly run race before sticking on for a one-length 4th behind He’s Our Bonneval. He gate out to the 1600m now and was excellent when a close 6th in the MCC Final at Flemington the last time he tackled the trip, while the Aaron Purcell-trained galloper was a narrow runner-up at the track and trip in the Mornington Guineas at this meeting a year ago. He was a third up winner at his last preparation and should be ready to fire.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No.2 BRAYDEN STAR – ($5.50)

BRAYDEN STAR should be ready to fire at his third run back from a spell. The five-year-old stretches out to the 2000m and has a good record at the trip. He was back on a slow early tempo over the 1600m at Flemington at his most recent start before closing off solidly to finish 6th, beaten one and a half lengths. He meets the winner, Arran Bay, 2kg better at the weights. Third up at his last preparation, the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained galloper was a six length improver on benchmark figures when runner-up over the 1600m at Flemington. He draws perfectly in barrier 3 and can round them up late in the piece.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 4 DENY KNOWLEDGE- ($8)

Keen on DENY KNOWLEDGE in the Mornington Cup. The Mick Kent-trained galloper has had two runs this time in and was too keen when fresh in the Coolmore Classic (1500m) and finishing down the track before stepping out at Caulfield in the Easter Cup (2000m), running a close 3rd behind Captain Envious. She meets that horse 3kg better at the weights. The daughter of Pride Of Dubai was forced to work early last time to lead and she might get a softer time of it from the better barrier in this race. She had some excellent wins last spring, including a tough victory in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) and I suspect that she should be suited at Mornington.
