Tamworth Racing Tips 12 Oct 2026 — can Spenzalot do it again?
Tamworth Racing Tips 12 Oct 2026 — can Spenzalot do it again?
Spenzalot turns up at Tamworth with the sort of profile you don’t overthink: he’s won on both visits to this track, draws to land where he wants, and he’s been holding his form together in stronger grade than most of these see week to week. The catch is weight, tempo, and whether the rest of the race lets him into it when it matters.
That’s the theme running through this meeting. We’ve got a Good to Soft Tamworth surface, eight races, and a stack of fields where barriers and intent matter as much as raw talent. These Tamworth racing tips lean hard on who has proven they handle this circuit, and who’s actually arriving in form right now, not just trending on paper.
Tamworth, 12 Oct — the setup
Going: Good to Soft on turf. At Tamworth, that usually means you want runners who can sustain a run, not just sprint for 150m. It’s not a track you win at forever without doing some work, particularly once the sting’s in the ground.
Course form is a mixed bag across the card. Outside of a couple of genuine track regulars, most runners have only one or two data points here, so I’m weighting recent form and map reads more heavily than “track stats” for the lightly raced at Tamworth types.

- Mates Mode
Jockey-wise, there are three you can trust on volume here. A Bullock has the best “keep you out of trouble” profile and hits the frame more than half the time from 50 plus rides. Braith Nock and M S M Weir both ride winners here regularly enough that you can take their bookings seriously, especially when they’ve got a gate to work with.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Bullock | 54 | 11 | 30 | 20.37 | 55.56 |
| Braith Nock | 31 | 7 | 17 | 22.58 | 54.84 |
| M S M Weir | 64 | 14 | 27 | 21.88 | 42.19 |
Trainer note that actually matters today: Brett and Georgie Cavanough have the depth on this card and they’ve had enough runners at Tamworth to treat the record as real. From 47 runners here they win just under 15 percent and place just under 40 percent. That’s not “domination”, but it’s strong enough that when they present a runner with a map edge, I’m inclined to listen.
Race-by-race tips and previews
Race 1: Barnson Tamworth (Bm82) — 13:15, 2297m
Spenzalot goes on top because he’s the one horse in the race who has already proven he loves this exact place. He’s won on both starts at Tamworth, and his recent form reads like a horse who turns up and runs: 6-1-7-3-1-3. You can knock him for carrying 132.2, but he’s also been turning in results under pressure, and this staying trip tends to reward the horse that can keep building from the 800m, not the one that needs a perfect sit sprint.
I’m also happy with where he lands from gate 3. He doesn’t have to do anything silly early and Weir can just keep him in rhythm.
The main danger for me is Immortal Rose. She’s in proper form, not “maybe” form. Over the last 90 days she’s gone four runs for three wins, and she’s rock-solid at Tamworth as well with four track runs for two wins. She carries 121.2 which gives her a real chance to be the one finishing over the top if Spenzalot gets softened up.
Staking: Win bet Spenzalot. Save on Immortal Rose if you’re playing with anything more than pocket change.
Race 2: 92.9 Tamworth Mdn Plate — 13:50, 1531m
The puzzle here is whether the race goes to the horse who’s been knocking on the door, or the one who finally gets the right run from an inside draw. I’m siding with Crime Of Passion because the profile screams “maiden about to win”. The form line is consistent, she’s been around the mark again and again, and R Hutchings is a positive booking at this track even if the raw strike rate isn’t elite.
She’s drawn 7, so she needs a touch of luck, but the 1531m start gives riders time to sort themselves out. If Hutchings can get her one off the fence and building from the 600m, she’s the one I want holding a ticket for.
The danger is Usain Boss</strong from gate 2. He placed on his only start at Tamworth and that low draw gives Van Der Hoven the option to hold a forward spot and force others to go around. In a maiden, that alone can win you the race.
Staking: Each-way Crime Of Passion. Small saver win Usain Boss if the market drifts him to a price.
Race 3: Tmfm 95.5 Country Boosted Mdn Hcp — 14:25, 1312m
This one reads like a speed and position race, and I want the horse who’s been close without needing everything to go right. Syllable</strong fits. He’s 0-2 but has placed in both runs at Tamworth, and he’s drawn 6 which is workable for Hutchings to either land just behind the speed or box-seat if the inside pair don’t kick up. He doesn’t need to improve lengths, just needs a clean 200m at the end.
The obvious threat is Half Gage</strong. He’s lightly raced, has already run second, and he gets in with 115.7. If they go too hard up front, he’s the one who can be the last horse still finding.
Staking: Win bet Syllable. If you’re playing exotics, Half Gage is the one I want most in the quinella.
Race 4: Kce Civil Contractors Mdn Plate — 15:05, 1094m
The market will try to sell you potential here. I’d rather buy evidence. Boa Vista</strong has it. He’s coming off a 2nd (form 9-7-2), and while he hasn’t got stacks of history, the trajectory says he’s learning how to race. Over the last 90 days he’s had one run for a placing, so he arrives in shape, not off a long string of flat efforts.
Gate 8 isn’t ideal over the short course, but if Hutchings presses early and finds cover, the horse with recent competitive racing is usually the one who can absorb pressure when they quicken.
Rubinsky is the danger. The form line 4-4-3-2-3-1 tells you he’s been in the fight repeatedly and finally broke through. He’s the one who might get the softer run, and those are dangerous horses in maidens because they don’t panic when the race gets tight.
Staking: Win bet Boa Vista. If you hate the gate, go smaller and play a quinella with Rubinsky.
Race 5: Tamworth City Toyota Plate (C1) — 15:40, 1750m
Bradford</strong is the horse I want to be with because he looks like a confidence runner in a class where confidence matters. He comes off a win (form 4-5-5-3-2-1), he draws 4, and he’s won on his only start at Tamworth. That last bit is only a single data point, but it’s still better than guessing who will handle the circuit when the pressure goes on.
With A Bullock taking the ride, you’re also getting a jockey who rides this track as well as anyone. From 54 rides here he hits the frame more than half the time, and he doesn’t need to do anything fancy from this gate. Just land in the first half, breathe, and build.
The danger is Tacitly</strong. He’s been a serial runner-up (4-2-2-2-8-2-2-8-2) and gets a soft draw in 2. If Bradford gets into a dogfight early and Tacitly gets the cheap split at the right time, that’s the beat.
Staking: Win bet Bradford. If you’re playing a multi, he’s the leg I’d be happiest anchoring around on this card.
Race 6: Mcdonalds Tamworth (Bm82) — 16:20, 1094m
Here’s your contrast race. Comongin brings pure consistency, while others bring “maybe”. His form reads 1-2-1-2-2 and that’s not an accident. He keeps turning up and holding his spot in the finish. Even better, he’s got a recent foundation too: over the last 90 days he’s gone four runs for a win and three placings. That’s a horse you can trust to run to his mark again.
Gate 10 is ugly, no sugar-coating it, but the horse’s strength is he can absorb a bit of early burn and still be there at the end. If Gallagher can get him across without overcooking him, he’s the one with the least doubt.
The danger is Castlebar Road</strong from gate 1, purely on map and craft. He’s an older head, draws the paint, and Clement knows how to place them. He can win without being the best horse if the tempo collapses and the fence opens at the right time.
Staking: Win bet Comongin. If the track is playing leaderish early, a saver on Castlebar Road makes sense.
Race 7: Concrete Industry Supplies Country Boosted Hcp (C3) — 16:55, 1312m
This is the best betting race on the card because there’s a proper horse in form, and the opposition has enough question marks that you can take a stand.
Zoucratic</strong gets my vote despite the wide draw. Yes, gate 17 is nasty, and yes he carries 134.4, but he’s in winning shape (form 1-6-5-3-3-1) and this is the sort of race where class can override the map if they roll along. The key is whether Weir can slide in with cover before the corner. If he ends up trapped three deep the trip becomes a wrestling match.
I’ve also got a soft spot for Mega Pixel</strong as the danger. He’s going better than most will notice at a glance, and his recent 90 day numbers are strong: seven runs for two wins and he hasn’t missed the frame. If he lands midfield with a back to follow, he’s the one who can peel and sustain a long run when others are gassed.
Staking: Win bet Zoucratic if you’re comfortable taking on the barrier. If you’re not, play Mega Pixel each-way and keep your powder dry for later meetings.

Race 8: Shay Brennan Construction (Bm58) — 17:30, 1531m
The market will get sucked into the “three in a row” story, and it’s a good story, but you still need the race to set up. Johnny Boz</strong has won his last three (form 5-6-8-1-1-1), and he draws 2, which is gold at this trip. If Nock can hold a spot in the first four without spending petrol, the horse gets every chance to keep the streak rolling.
I’m not calling him a track specialist because the course stats aren’t there for him, but the combination of gate, current confidence, and a jockey who wins plenty at Tamworth is enough for me.
The danger is Maximum Ride</strong. He’s lightly raced lately and arrives off a win (form 0-6-2-1). From gate 3 he’ll be in the same part of the race as Johnny Boz, and if he gets the softer run, he can absolutely outkick him late.
Staking: Win bet Johnny Boz. If you’re building a late quaddie, take Maximum Ride as cover.
Where the money goes
NAP: Bradford (Race 5, 15:40). He ticks the three boxes I care about in a Class 1: he’s arriving off a win, he’s drawn to get every favour, and he’s already won on his only start at Tamworth.
Value: Mega Pixel (Race 7, 16:55). Seven runs in the last 90 days and he hasn’t missed the frame. If the market focuses too heavily on barriers and big weights, he’s the one I want on-side at each-way odds.
Banker for multis: Comongin (Race 6, 16:20). Four runs in the last 90 days for a win and three placings is the kind of reliability that holds a multi together.
Each-way play: Crime Of Passion (Race 2, 13:50). She’s been around the mark repeatedly and this looks the right race to finally convert.
Course angle to keep riding: When A Bullock lands a mid draw at Tamworth, he very rarely wastes it. From 54 rides here he lands a placing more often than not, and his runners tend to get the cleanest runs through traffic. Watch his mounts next meeting too, especially in the 1400m to 1600m races.
