Overview
Fierceness lines up in the Taree Gold Cup having won three of its last four starts, and the rider booked is Ashley Morgan, the sharpest strike-rate jockey at this track.
That is the headline, but it is not the whole story. Eight races make up Friday’s card on a Soft turf track, and the program runs from a staying Benchmark 66 at 1:10PM through to the Allan Bakewell Memorial Krambach Sprint at 5:30PM. Two trainers frame the meeting from opposite ends. J C Deamer has placed ten of his twelve Taree runners and sends maiden Rupertano back to the scene of its debut second. P Cheers has seven runners on the card but only three Taree winners from 79 starters, which is a number worth keeping in your head before you add any of them to a multi.
These Taree racing tips run through every race with a clear pick, a named danger and a staking line, then finish with the bets we would actually put money on. Scratchings are heavy in Race 4 and the Krambach Cup, so check the final fields before you play.
Taree, the setup
Soft going suits horses that have shown they can handle a bit of give, and on a country track with this many maidens and class races, proven placegetters carry more weight than flashy one-off wins. Plenty of today’s runners have been here before, which gives us more course form than usual for a provincial Friday.
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Explosive Tycoon | 4 | 0 | 4 | 0% | 100% |
| Prince Is Game | 4 | 1 | 3 | 25% | 75% |

| Hardash | 9 | 0 | 1 | 0% | 11% |
| Nikody’s Casper | 7 | 0 | 0 | 0% | 0% |
The bottom two rows matter as much as the top. Hardash and Nikody’s Casper have had sixteen Taree starts between them for a single placing. Familiarity is not the same as ability.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |

| A Bullock | 39 | 8 | 26 | 21% | 67% |

| A P Ball | 37 | 3 | 12 | 8% | 32% |
| P Cheers | 79 | 3 | 12 | 4% | 15% |
Bullock gets one of his mounts into the first three two times in three at this track, and Morgan wins more than a third of her Taree rides. A P Ball has eight runners across the day, the biggest team on the card, without a strike rate that demands blind support.

Race by race: Taree predictions
Race 1: Built Smart Solutions (Bm66), 1:10PM, 2000m
Prince Is Game won last start and has already shown it likes this track, with a win and three placings from four Taree visits. That is an emerging pattern rather than a specialist’s record, but in a seven-horse staying race it is the strongest course line in the field. Barrier 1 lets L P Rolls save every inch of ground over the trip, and the weight is reasonable against the top two.
Purple Kitty, the most-raced horse on the whole card at Taree with ten starts for a win and five placings, is the one that could beat it. It ran second last time and has hit the frame six times from nine runs over the past three months, so it will be there or thereabouts. The trouble is converting. Can’t Recall One won two starts back but carries the steadier, and Kosuke is scratched.
Back Prince Is Game to win, and cover Purple Kitty in a small quinella.
Race 2: Hahn Country Boosted Showcase Mdn Plate, 1:45PM, 1000m
Who actually wants to win a maiden on a Soft track? Not many of these have shown it. Kobi Express has the most consistent recent profile, with two seconds among its five recorded starts and an average finish of a touch over third across its three runs in the past three months. Barrier 2 is a gift over the sprint trip.
Sunny Quarters is the one to fear. It has had all four starts at Taree, placing in two, and jumps from the inside gate. The worry is a flat fifth last time. Cerano Magic only has two starts but comes from the MS K Owen stable, which has four Taree winners from nineteen runners, so do not dismiss it.
Small win bet on Kobi Express. This is a race to keep the stake light.
Race 3: Tony Sweeney Memorial Super Showcase Mdn Plate, 2:20PM, 1400m
J C Deamer does not bring many to Taree, but when he does they run. Ten placings from twelve starters at the track is the best trainer record on the card by a distance, and Rupertano arrives off a second on debut at this very course. One run is a data point, not a trend, yet everything around the horse points the same way: an in-form stable at its best track, a sensible gate in 3, and Shannen Llewellyn, who places in better than four of every ten Taree rides.
There is also the second-up angle. Maidens that run well on debut tend to tighten up with the experience, and Rupertano did its learning on this surface. Thirteen go around after the scratching of Areesea, and a few of them have been beaten plenty of times. Nikody’s Casper has had seven Taree starts without placing, and Lottery Link has filled the minor placings three times from five recent runs without winning.
Hellfighter is the clear danger. Its form reads like a horse knocking on the door, placing three times from four recent runs including a second last start, and barrier 2 puts it right in the race. If Rupertano does not improve from debut, Hellfighter takes advantage.
Win bet on Rupertano, with an exacta Rupertano over Hellfighter as a small extra.
Race 4: Glass 24/7 Showcase Plate (C1), 2:55PM, 1600m
Can a horse that keeps running second finally get its turn when the field falls apart? Nine of the original eighteen are out, including last-start winners Fashion Spree and Grafology, both scratched, and that leaves Purple Haze as the one to beat. It has placed in its last four starts, three of them seconds, and ran second at its only outing in the past three months. Barrier 4 is ideal, and Ashley Morgan rides.
The booking is a familiar one. Morgan and trainer Adam Duggan have teamed up five times for four placings and no wins, which tells you the horses run honestly without always finishing it off. Against a weakened field, that honesty should be enough.
Atadcheeky is the danger. It has placed in two of four Taree starts and four times from six recent runs, including a second last time, but it has not won in that stretch. Whoopi Do won its last start and has the most upside of the rest. Hardash, at nine Taree starts without a win, is easy to leave out.
Purple Haze to win, with a small quinella to Atadcheeky.
Race 5: Taree Kia Lightning Sprint, 3:30PM, 1000m
The weights shape this one. Speck has top weight, Grassburn is well down the weights, and both won last start. Grassburn is the horse we want. It has two wins and four placings from five runs over the past three months, which makes it the most consistent recent sprinter on the card, and Mollie Fitzgerald steers from barrier 5.
Its course record is modest, one placing from three Taree starts, which stops it being a stronger play. Still, recent form outranks old course form, and the weight swing is big over a sprint.
Speck can still win this. Back-to-back seconds before a ninth, then a win last time, says the horse has quality, and Reece Jones has placed on all four of his Taree rides. Pratt and Veecee both won on their only visit here, while Where’s The Fire, with a win and two placings from three starts at the track, gets in light with an apprentice.
Grassburn gets the win money. Add Where’s The Fire as a saver if you want a bigger-priced interest.
Race 6: Bakewell Haulage Krambach Cup, 4:10PM, 1300m
Zoucratic has the gate, the form and the weight to control this from the front half of the field. It won last start after two thirds, and across its last four runs it has hit the frame three times. Barrier 1 in a field reduced to ten by the scratchings of Damas, Stupendo, Brutal Eyes, Amarone and Imatruestar is a significant advantage, and A B Collett can dictate terms.
Most of the field shares the same weight, so the class line matters more than handicapping. Zoucratic has been racing in a consistent band and winning in it, which is why it is the best multi leg on the card for us.
Zaru has the rider to upset it. A Bullock is the most reliable placegetter among Taree jockeys. Zaru ran second on its only start here and has filled the frame twice from three recent runs, although it was fifth last time. Deebee’s Girl won at its last start and Show ‘Em Howl has placed twice from five recent runs, so they add depth without looking like winners.
Zoucratic is a win bet on its own and the banker for multis.
Race 7: Sky International ‘Big Dance Eligibility’ Taree Gold Cup, 4:50PM, 1600m
This is the race of the day and the horse of the day. Fierceness has won three of its four starts in the past three months and placed in the other, with back-to-back wins coming into this. That is not a horse peaking on one run. It is a horse in a winning sequence.
The booking matters too. Ashley Morgan has won eight times from 23 Taree rides, the highest strike rate of any jockey at this meeting, and her partnership with trainer Matthew Smith has produced 55 rides, eight wins and 23 placings, with the most recent winner in September. Smith himself has only two Taree runners on record, one of them a winner, so we are leaning on the horse and rider rather than the stable’s course history.
Fierceness draws 7 and carries a good deal less than Sosino. The Neasham and Archibald stable sends three runners, Sosino, Montpellier and Mazis, and that stable has five winners from sixteen Taree starters. None of the three comes with strong recent form, though. Sosino has not placed from two recent runs and Montpellier has not placed from four.
The danger is Lensman, second last time and placed three times from four recent runs, with Jenny Duggan aboard. Creative Righteous, with two wins from seven runs over the past three months, is the other one with a winning profile, although a seventh last time takes some forgiving. Fierceness and Creative Righteous have never met before.
Fierceness is the NAP. Win bet, with a smaller exacta Fierceness over Lensman.
Race 8: Allan Bakewell Memorial Krambach Sprint – Showcase Plate (C2), 5:30PM, 1250m
Raguel‘s form is moving the right way: sixth, fourth, seventh, then third, third and a win last start. Its three runs over the past three months produced a win and two placings, and its weight is the lowest in the race alongside Explosive Tycoon. Trainer T S Howlett also has Zoucratic in the Krambach Cup, so his afternoon could look very good by the last.
One warning before you bet. Raguel is double-entered, also engaged at Bathurst in Race 4 with the same jockey, so confirm where it actually runs before committing. If it goes to Bathurst, this race belongs to Explosive Tycoon.
Explosive Tycoon is the course horse. Four Taree starts, four placings, no wins. It ran second last time and has placed three times from six recent runs. If you want a horse that will run its race here, this is the one. Coco Dreaming won one of its two Taree starts and Maracaibo Sun returns from a break.
Two plays here, not one: Explosive Tycoon each way regardless, and a win bet on Raguel only once it is confirmed as a Taree starter.

Where the money goes
NAP: Fierceness (Race 7, 4:50PM). Three wins from its last four runs and the best Taree jockey on the card in the saddle. It is the one runner on the program that arrives with a winning sequence instead of just consistency.
Value: Rupertano (Race 3, 2:20PM). One start for a second at this track, and a trainer who places more than four in five of his Taree runners. A second-up maiden from that stable should improve, and the field it meets does not look strong.
Banker: Zoucratic (Race 6, 4:10PM). The inside gate, a last-start win and three placings from four recent runs make this the most dependable multi leg in the quaddie.
Each-way: Explosive Tycoon (Race 8, 5:30PM). It has placed in all four Taree runs, and the light weight with an apprentice aboard keeps it competitive in a C2 field.
Course angle: J C Deamer (Race 3, 2:20PM). Ten placings from twelve Taree starters is the best trainer record here, and Rupertano is his only runner today.
If Deamer keeps placing his Taree runners at this rate, his name should be the first one you check every time this track comes up in our Taree racing tips.
