Overview
Glory Mission has won its last two starts, including a BM76 over this course on 25 September, and Friday night at Launceston asks whether a third straight win is coming from the bottom of the weights.
That Race 7 handicap is the best contest on an eight-race night card, and it is loaded with horses who already know the way around this track. Georgaroni has won two of three starts here, Prince Of Khatun arrives off a win for the Adam Trinder and E Byrne Burke combination, and In The Ocean simply refuses to run a bad race. Before that, there are three maidens of mixed quality, a Class 1 thrown open by the scratching of its best course performer, and a BM76 over 1400m that could hinge on a lightly weighted last-start winner.
The track is rated Good to Soft, racing starts at 6:07PM and runs through to 9:40PM. These Launceston racing tips cover every race, with a firm view where the form supports one and a straight answer where it does not.
What Launceston gives us tonight
The dominant name on the card is E Byrne Burke, with eight rides and a course record in a different league to the rest of the room: 30 winners from 110 rides and a placing every second time out. Nobody else in tonight’s jockey ranks has cracked ten winners here.
On the training side, J K Blacker has the numbers with 14 runners across the card, but the stable’s course strike rate sits well below the leaders. G J Stevenson is the one to respect: a quarter of the stable’s Launceston runners win and more than half place, from 84 starts of evidence.
Plenty of tonight’s horses have real course form, enough to fill a table.
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Georgaroni | 3 | 2 | 3 | 67 | 100 |
| Artillery Fire | 4 | 2 | 3 | 50 | 75 |
| Mastretta | 5 | 1 | 3 | 20 | 60 |
| Go Jeanie | 5 | 1 | 3 | 20 | 60 |
| In The Ocean | 5 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 60 |
| Awesome Orphan | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| E Byrne Burke | 110 | 30 | 55 | 27.3 | 50.0 |
| K Sanderson | 45 | 5 | 21 | 11.1 | 46.7 |
| A Darmanin | 31 | 4 | 13 | 12.9 | 41.9 |
| Chloe Wells | 82 | 6 | 28 | 7.3 | 34.1 |
| Kirra-Lee Lane | 57 | 9 | 19 | 15.8 | 33.3 |
| T Baker | 64 | 6 | 18 | 9.4 | 28.1 |
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| S Gandy | 87 | 9 | 44 | 10.3 | 50.6 |
| J L Keys | 54 | 9 | 26 | 16.7 | 48.1 |
| Adam Trinder | 82 | 18 | 36 | 22.0 | 43.9 |
| J K Blacker | 171 | 13 | 39 | 7.6 | 22.8 |
One horse in that first table is worth flagging for the wrong reason: Awesome Orphan has drawn a blank in six tries here. Course experience is not the same as course ability.

Launceston racing tips: race by race
Race 1: Book In For Dinner, Jackson Security Newmarket Night, Nov 20 Mdn Plate, 6:07PM, 1600m
Jock Rock has had only three starts and has run second in two of them. That is the best maiden profile in a field where most of the others have already had plenty of chances. Jock Rock carries the lightest weight in the race, and Kirra-Lee Lane has ridden nine winners from 57 rides here. The only Launceston run produced a placing, so the track holds no fears.
Shines Discreetly is the danger. Matthew Brown places two thirds of stable runners at Launceston, and Byrne Burke takes the ride. The worry is the form: two placings from six runs in the last three months says this one keeps finding one or two better. Called Through jumps from barrier 1 and ran second last time, but has not raced in the last 90 days and is 0 from 5 at the track.
Back Jock Rock each-way. Over 1600m with 14 runners, the place half is worth having.
Race 2: Mayhem In The Mounting Yard Nov 20, Book Online Mdn Plate, 6:38PM, 1200m
Is there a horse in this field you can trust? Probably not, and the scratchings of Royal Scene and Copper Reign do not change much. Nine Choirs is the lean. One start, at this track, for a third placing. S Gandy places just over half of the stable’s Launceston runners, and Nine Choirs shares the lightest weight in the race.
Sh’bourne Rising ran third last start and has a placing from two runs here, with K Sanderson aboard. Keep an eye on Remis Award too. A J K Blacker debutant with Byrne Burke riding looks like a booking made with intent, but there is no form to work from.
Small win bet on Nine Choirs at most. This is a race to watch.
Race 3: Ladbrokes Place Extra Hcp (C1), 7:08PM, 1200m
The scratching of Unfiltered, the best course performer in the race, opens this Class 1 up, and Genuine Lady is the one to step into the gap. Second at the only run in the last three months, a winner here once from five tries with two placings, and Byrne Burke takes the ride. That jockey has 30 winners from 110 rides at Launceston, and a booking like that in a weakened race carries weight.
Time For Snow is the main danger, a winner at one of two recent starts with three seconds earlier in the form line, although the fifth last time takes a little shine off. Miss Lyra ran second last start, has placed in two of three recent runs and in two of three tries here, so rates the each-way threat for the Gandy stable.
Win bet on Genuine Lady, with Time For Snow as the saver.
Race 4: Ladbrokes, Thanks For Your Continued Support Mdn Plate, 7:38PM, 1100m
Weak race. Four of these three year olds have never raced, and most of the rest have shown little. Bewicked has the best form overall, with a third and a second before an eighth at the latest run. There is a placing from three tries here, T Baker rides, and Bewicked gets a weight break on the top of the field.
Office Award ran fifth on debut and should improve with that run under the belt. Manamana carries the J L Keys stable, which places almost half of its Launceston runners.
No confidence here. A small saver on Bewicked if you need a leg, otherwise skip it.
Race 5: William, Scott, Mayson & Oliver Ganderton (Bm76), 8:10PM, 1400m
Two different profiles lead this BM76. Fighting For Gold is the in-form lightweight: a winner on the only Launceston start, which was also the only run in the last three months, and the lightest weight in the field tonight. The 4322 sequence before that win says this horse had been knocking on the door for a while, and A Darmanin hits the placings here better than four times in ten.
Hurricane Ketut is the stable runner. The Stevenson stable wins with a quarter of its Launceston runners, and Hurricane Ketut has won one of three here. There has been no run in the last 90 days, but this stable gets them ready. Stablemate Go Jeanie has Byrne Burke aboard, but ran fifth at the only recent start, and this is the first time that jockey and trainer have teamed up at the track.
With only eight runners, the race could be run at a muddling pace, which suits a lightweight who can hold a good position. Back Fighting For Gold to win and cover with Hurricane Ketut in an exacta.
Race 6: Andy Birrell Loves Tassie Racing Hcp (C3), 8:40PM, 1200m
Benefitsofmine has form against most of this field. At this track on 25 September, Benefitsofmine ran third, with Southern Auroras fourth and Artillery Fire sixth. That makes three placings from three runs in the last three months, a win among them, plus a placing in both course starts. K P Hamilton has won with three of 11 runners here.
Southern Auroras is the danger with the best recent strike rate in the race: two wins from four recent runs, including a win over Benefitsofmine at Hobart in August. The pair are close on form. Ozonica has the Trinder and Byrne Burke team behind it and ran second last start. Alfarino is the improver: a last-start winner, a winner on the only Launceston run, and trained by Imogen Miller, with two winners from five runners here.
Back Benefitsofmine win and place, and use it as a multi anchor. A small win bet on Alfarino suits anyone happy to take on a bit more risk.
Race 7: Crawf Loves Launnie! Hcp, 9:10PM, 1100m
Glory Mission is the horse I like most on the card. The last two runs were both wins, and the second came in a BM76 here on 25 September over a similar trip. Tonight Glory Mission shares the lightest weight in the race. The 258 sequence before those two wins points to a horse who has improved sharply, and the record in the last three months is two from two.
The opposition is strong, which is why this race matters. Prince Of Khatun has won three of the last five, including the latest, and the Adam Trinder and Byrne Burke partnership has produced 13 winners from 49 runs together here. That booking is no accident. The two horses have never finished in the same race, so this is a fresh test for both.
Georgaroni is the course horse, with two wins from three tries here and a placing on the other occasion. There has been no run in the last 90 days, though, and the most recent effort was a sixth, so this may be a run to tighten up. In The Ocean has a win and five seconds from the last six starts and three placings from five runs here, but keeps finding one too good. Mastretta, a course winner once from five tries and third last start, rounds out the main contenders.
Barrier 4 should let Chloe Wells sit just off the pace on Glory Mission without using too much early, and the light weight matters over a sprint trip. If Prince Of Khatun gets an easy time in front, that is the one to beat late. That is the scenario that beats this plan, and it is why the quinella makes sense.
Win bet on Glory Mission as the main play of the night. Add a quinella with Prince Of Khatun, and use Georgaroni and In The Ocean underneath in trifectas.
Race 8: Ladbrokes Popular Srm (Bm60), 9:40PM, 1400m
Agadoo comes into this BM60 as the most reliable horse in the race. A win last start, and three placings from four runs in the last three months. Agadoo has not finished worse than fifth in the last six starts, and A Darmanin has done well here. The scratchings of Wild Dancer, Cool Heart and Sir Jag cut the field to nine and remove the topweight.
Kakia is the each-way horse. Four recent runs have produced four placings without a win, and the only start at the track also produced a placing. Robyn Lynch rides for Jessie Bazan, a stable that places four in ten here. Thisismyturf has a course win from five tries and ran third last time, so deserves respect.
Back Agadoo to win and Kakia each-way.

Where the money goes
NAP: Glory Mission (Race 7, 9:10PM). Two wins in a row, one of them at BM76 level here, and a light weight in a race that should suit.
Value: Fighting For Gold (Race 5, 8:10PM). Only one run in the last three months, and it was a win here. The Stevenson pair will draw the stable money, yet this lightweight brings the fresher winning form into the BM76.
Banker: Benefitsofmine (Race 6, 8:40PM). Three placings from three recent runs and a placing in both course starts. It has already finished in front of Southern Auroras and Artillery Fire over this track, so it is the safest multi leg on the night.
Each-way: Kakia (Race 8, 9:40PM). Placed in every one of the last four runs and in the only run here. Consistency without the wins is exactly what the each-way bet is for.
Course angle: When Trinder books Byrne Burke at Launceston, they win more than a quarter of the time. Prince Of Khatun and Ozonica are their two runners tonight.
If Glory Mission makes it three straight tonight, expect a step up in class before Newmarket Night on 20 November.
