Overview
Vin Santo has been out four times in the last 90 days and hasn’t missed the top three once, winning two of them. On a Wednesday card where most of the form is patchy and the track is rated heavy, that kind of consistency stands out a mile, and it makes the Century Pools at 4:28PM the race we build the day around.
These Eagle Farm racing tips cover all seven races, starting with a 1830m maiden at 1:33PM and finishing with a big BM68 over 1500m at 5:05PM. Three of the races are 1000m dashes, so barrier and early speed matter. Tony Gollan and Chris Waller have ten runners each across the card. Below you’ll find the course form worth knowing, a view on every race, and where we’d put the money. Only the opener had a market up when this was written, so prices are quoted there and nowhere else.
Reading the Eagle Farm card
The track is listed heavy, which tends to sort out the ones who handle it from the ones who don’t by the 400m. Course form is thin on the horse side but the riders and stables have real volume here, and that is where the useful numbers sit.
Seven of today’s runners have three or more Eagle Farm starts:
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Giapponese | 5 | 2 | 3 | 40% | 60% |
| Angel Ladder | 5 | 2 | 3 | 40% | 60% |
| Ready For The Trip | 5 | 0 | 2 | 0% | 40% |
| Think Like Paddy | 4 | 0 | 2 | 0% | 50% |
| Cabaletto | 3 | 0 | 2 | 0% | 67% |
| Saveur | 3 | 0 | 2 | 0% | 67% |
| Kokatahi | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0% | 33% |
The jockeys with the most to say at the track, sorted by how often they hit the frame:
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jade Hampson | 8 | 1 | 5 | 12.5% | 62.5% |
| Anna Roper | 17 | 5 | 9 | 29.4% | 52.9% |
| Ben Thompson | 184 | 39 | 85 | 21.2% | 46.2% |
| Tahlia Fenlon | 39 | 5 | 18 | 12.8% | 46.2% |
| Ryan Maloney | 102 | 10 | 45 | 9.8% | 44.1% |
| Jace Mcmurray | 103 | 12 | 41 | 11.7% | 39.8% |
And the stables:
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C Maher | 60 | 8 | 31 | 13.3% | 51.7% |
| Todd Pollard | 22 | 7 | 11 | 31.8% | 50.0% |
| T J Gollan | 325 | 50 | 149 | 15.4% | 45.9% |
| Jack Bruce | 62 | 8 | 28 | 12.9% | 45.2% |
| Michael Freedman | 75 | 13 | 32 | 17.3% | 42.7% |
| C J Waller | 137 | 17 | 54 | 12.4% | 39.4% |
Ben Thompson is the name to keep in mind. He has ridden 184 times at Eagle Farm and won 39 of them, and he has a book of seven today. Gollan’s volume is huge too: 50 winners here and close to half his runners finishing in the first three.

Eagle Farm race by race
Race 1: Ladbrokes Spring Racing Carnival Mdn Plate, 1:33PM, 1830m
Six maidens over 1830m on a heavy track, and the market has three of them bunched together. Kalamia King is the $2.80 favourite with Bet Right, Kindred is $3.00 with the same firm, and Swift Sovereign sits at $3.70.
We side with Kindred. Its last two runs were both thirds, so it is coming into this in form, and it has Ben Thompson aboard from barrier 4. Thompson wins one in every five rides at this track, and no rider on the card has more Eagle Farm winners. The step out to 1830m looks the right move for a horse that has been running on without quite getting there.
Kalamia King is the danger. It ran second last time and has a placing from four starts in the past three months. Emily Pozman draws barrier 2, so it should get the run of the race on the fence. Slightly Squeeze, at $14 with Unibet, has two placings from four recent runs and is worth a small saver for the place.
Win bet on Kindred, with a quinella saver on Kalamia King.
Race 2: Silverstone Developments Hcp (C3), 2:08PM, 1000m
Does a last-start winner from the inside gate need anything more? Moroccan Wind won last time out, has run twice in the past 90 days for a win and a second, and jumps from barrier 1 under Jake Bayliss. Over 1000m that draw is gold, because he can hold the rail and make them come around him.
Miss Mclaren is the obvious threat. She won her only run in the last three months and her form line reads 1551, so she has two wins from her last four. Bella Youngberry rides and finishes in the first three in close to four of every ten rides here.
Angel Ladder is the course horse: three top-three finishes, two of them wins, from five Eagle Farm starts. But the last two runs have been well back, and that is enough to keep us off.
Moroccan Wind to win, Miss Mclaren in the exacta.
Race 3: Colliers Mdn Plate, 2:43PM, 1000m
Fourteen maidens, five of them yet to race, so treat this one with caution. The form that is here points straight to Poetic Belle. She has had two starts for a third and a second, and the Kendrick stable have booked Ben Thompson. She has drawn wide in 14, which is the one knock.
Moonlit Aura ran second on debut and draws barrier 5 for Ryan Maloney and the Adam Campton yard. One start is a small sample but it was a good one, and that inside draw could flip the result.
Small win bet on Poetic Belle. Keep the stake light with so many unknowns in the field.
Race 4: Sky Racing Plate (C1), 3:18PM, 1000m
Michael Freedman’s runners win more than one in six starts at Eagle Farm, and Rewrite has already shown it handles this track. It has had two starts here for a win. The last five runs read 14223, so it is knocking on the door without quite getting the job done. Jett Newman rides from barrier 3, which puts him handy without being stuck.
Terrax is the one that can beat it. It won its only run in the past three months and comes off a last-start win. Barrier 5 is fine. If it repeats that run, Rewrite has to be at its best.
Galavino won its only start for the Campton stable and makes some appeal at a price. Three scratchings have thinned the field to ten.
Rewrite each-way. A fourth straight placing is likelier than a win, so cover both.
Race 5: Cbt (Bm68), 3:53PM, 1830m
This is the deepest race on the card. Sixteen are still listed, Chris Waller has five of them, and the best-backed form belongs to a horse that already knows the way around.
Giapponese has had five Eagle Farm starts for three top-three finishes, two of them wins, and his average finish here is just inside the top three. His latest run was a win at this track on 3 October, a C3 handicap at 7/1 with Jace Mcmurray in the saddle. Mcmurray is back on, and the pair have now been together four times for two top-three finishes, one of them a win. Barrier 3 should let him sit on the fence and save ground over 1830m, which matters on a heavy surface.
The Waller team is the problem, because there is so much of it. Great Times Ahead is the pick of them. The three-year-old has form of 521, has won one of three in the past three months and run second in another, and gets Ben Thompson. One warning on the partnership: Thompson and Waller have teamed up twelve times at Eagle Farm and won only once. Ancestral, with Mallyon, is a last-start winner with three top-three finishes from four recent runs.
King Emperor is the other danger. It has won two of three in the past 90 days, but trainer L F Birchley has had 18 runners at Eagle Farm without a win.
Giapponese to win. Box him with Great Times Ahead and King Emperor in the trifecta.
Race 6: Century Pools (Bm68), 4:28PM, 1200m
Vin Santo is the best horse on the card at the right level. Four runs in the past 90 days have produced two wins and two placings, with an average finishing spot of 1.5 and $42,800 in prize money. The last five runs read 61221, and that is the profile we want: a horse that wins when it should and refuses to run a bad race when it doesn’t.
Barrier 11 isn’t ideal, and Tiffani Brooker has only one win from 27 rides at Eagle Farm. Against that, she knows the horse and the stable. Brooker and trainer Renita Beaton have teamed up 29 times for six wins and 13 top-three finishes. Beaton herself has two wins from eight runners here, so this isn’t a stable that comes up for no reason.
Egmont is the danger. The Waller three-year-old won its only start in the past three months and gets Ben Thompson again. It is lightly raced, so there is no telling how much is left in the tank. Discreet Point, last start second for Matthew Dunn, is the each-way roughie.
Win bet on Vin Santo, and the anchor for any multi.
Race 7: Ladbrokes Tote Win +10% In October (Bm68), 5:05PM, 1500m
Five more came out of this, so it is down to fourteen, and it is a race with two very different profiles near the top. Kokatahi grinds; Italian Dancer wins.
Kokatahi is the one we trust. Its last four runs read 6422, and the two runs in the past 90 days were both placings. It has had three runs at Eagle Farm for one placing. Ryan Maloney rides for Chris Waller and jumps from barrier 5. That pairing has had 18 rides together at Eagle Farm for seven top-three finishes, two of them wins, the latest a win here on 3 October.
Italian Dancer is the danger and the form horse: three wins and four top-three finishes from five runs in the past three months. The catch is that our feed had it listed without a rider at the time of writing, so check it is a confirmed starter before you bet around it. If it runs, it is the one Kokatahi has to beat.
Don’t Doubt Missy won its only Eagle Farm start and has three placings from four recent runs. Taylor Marshall rides from barrier 9. It is the each-way play of the race. Navy Nina is worth a look for Todd Pollard, whose runners win almost a third of the time here.
Kokatahi to win, Don’t Doubt Missy each-way.

Where the money goes
NAP: Vin Santo (Race 6, 4:28PM). Two wins and two placings from four runs in the past three months, and a rider who has won six of 29 for this stable. It is the most consistent horse on the card.
Value: Kindred (Race 1, 1:33PM), $3.00 with Bet Right. Two thirds in a row and Thompson on board, yet the market has it behind Kalamia King.
Banker: Giapponese (Race 5, 3:53PM). Two wins and a third placing from five Eagle Farm starts, and back on the same rider who won with him here last time.
Each-way: Don’t Doubt Missy (Race 7, 5:05PM). Won its only start at the track and has placed three times from four recent runs.
Course angle: Ben Thompson. He wins about one in five rides at Eagle Farm and has Kindred, Poetic Belle, Great Times Ahead and Egmont among his book today.
The heavy track will tell us plenty about the three-year-olds, and Egmont is the one we will be watching for the next run here.
