Gosford Racing Tips 22 Oct 2026: Can Peleus Strike Again?

Overview

Tommy Berry has won eight of his 21 rides at Gosford, and on Thursday he picks up Peleus, a last-start winner who ran second in his only visit here. That booking in Race 7 is the clearest signal on an eight-race card that otherwise leans heavily on maidens and lightly raced horses.

The track is rated Good to Soft and the program runs from 1:15PM to 5:25PM, with four maidens in the first five races before three handicaps close it out. These Gosford racing tips go through every race, flag where the market looks short or generous, and finish with where we would actually put money. Prices were live for the first five races at the time of writing; Races 6 to 8 had not been priced yet, so treat those views as form reads first.

Expect a lot of first-starters and second-uppers, which means connections and jockey bookings carry more weight than usual. That is where the Gosford numbers help.

What Gosford gives us today

Horse course form is thin. Dietrich is the only runner on the card with three starts here (one win, two placings), and most of the others have one Gosford start or none at all. The riders and stables are a different story, with plenty of volume to work with.

Jockeys at Gosford (5+ rides, by place rate)

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
J R Collett 10 2 7 20.0 70.0
L Magorrian 17 4 11 23.5 64.7
C Schofield 14 6 9 42.9 64.3
Tyler Schiller 24 3 15 12.5 62.5
Tommy Berry 21 8 12 38.1 57.1
K McEvoy 18 4 10 22.2 55.6
Regan Bayliss 15 4 8 26.7 53.3
Rachel King 21 7 11 33.3 52.4

Trainers at Gosford (by place rate)

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Sara Ryan 8 1 6 12.5 75.0
Nathan Doyle 18 4 13 22.2 72.2
Peter Snowden 11 3 7 27.3 63.6
Richard Litt 10 1 6 10.0 60.0
Brad Widdup 28 7 13 25.0 46.4
Bjorn Baker 25 4 11 16.0 44.0
C J Waller 28 5 12 17.9 42.9
K A Lees 28 5 12 17.9 42.9

Two riders stand out for strike rate rather than place rate. Berry and C Schofield both win close to four in ten of their Gosford rides, and between them they ride a big chunk of today’s fancied runners. Brad Widdup is the trainer with the most Gosford winners in this group, seven from 28.

Gosford race by race

Race 1: The Ary Toukley Midway Hcp (C1) – Heat Of The Rising Star, 1:15PM, 1600m

The market has Ouragan as a $3.10 favourite with Bet Right, and that price asks you to trust a horse that keeps finding one better. He has placed in six of his seven runs over the last three months without winning any of them. Consistent, yes. A reliable win bet, not really.

Overshadow is the one we want. He has won one of his three runs in that window and placed in another, and his form line of 3-7-7-1-2-5 shows a horse that found its level this preparation. Overshadow carries top weight, but James Harding has only brought two runners to Gosford and both placed, one of them winning. Braith Nock jumps from barrier 2, which should let him take a handy spot in a field of six.

Legaselli is the danger. The three-year-old gets a big weight pull from the top of the handicap, draws the rail, and has a win among four recent starts. If he leads and nobody presses him, he could be hard to run down at the 1600m.

At $4.20 with Bet Right, Overshadow is the bet. Win only.

Race 2: Creightons Funeral Service Provincial Mdn Plate, 1:50PM, 1200m

Hidden News has had two starts for a fourth and a second, and that kind of improvement second up to third up is exactly what you want from a maiden. K S Latham rides, and he hits the frame on half of his 26 Gosford rides. Barrier 2 is a bonus over the 1200m.

The unknown is We Are One, a first-starter for Brad Widdup with C Schofield aboard. Those two have combined for 11 wins from 61 runs together, and Widdup has trained seven winners here from 28 runners. A debutant from that stable drawn in gate 1 deserves respect at $4.80 with Unibet.

Ready Made Heir has run second at Gosford in its only visit and placed twice from three recent starts, but the form line of 2-3-2-3-6-2 tells you it rarely wins. Hidden News at $3.80 with Unibet is the pick. Win bet, with a small saver on We Are One.

Race 3: Saddles Mount White Mdn Hcp, 2:25PM, 1100m

Can Brutal Advance finally turn a run of seconds into a win? The last three starts read 2-2-2, and he has placed in all three runs over the last three months. C Lever has not won from six Gosford rides, which keeps us from going too hard on the win.

Tickelova is the more natural winner on what we have seen. The only recent start produced a second, the draw is barrier 2, and Dylan Gibbons rides for K A Lees, who has five Gosford winners from 28 runners. At $3.70 with Bet Right, Tickelova is our selection.

Rosie Rouge heads the market at $3.20 with Unibet for Waterhouse and Bott off a seventh in a sole start, from the inside draw, and has Tim Clark on, but there is not enough on the page to take her at the shortest price.

Tickelova to win, and Brutal Advance each way at $5.25 with Bet Right as the place play.

Race 4: Central Coast Nsw Legacy Super Mdn Hcp, 3:05PM, 1000m

Hard to have a confident view in a 1000m maiden full of first-starters and horses with one or two runs. Hit The Runway is the $4 favourite with Bet Right on debut for C Maher, but Maher has one winner from 21 Gosford runners, so the stable record does not back the price.

If forced, Wild Courage gets the nod. He has run 3-4-4 in three starts, so he has at least shown ability, and C Schofield rides him from barrier 1. At $5.50 with Unibet he is a small win bet at most. Don’t Doubt Darcy is the danger off one run for a fourth. Watch race for most, a small bet on Wild Courage for those who must play.

Race 5: Doyalson-Wyee Rsl Sub Branch Mdn Plate, 3:40PM, 1600m

Three horses dominate this market and two of them have a draw problem. Markos Port has placed in all three of his starts in the last three months, but barrier 14 is a long way out over 1600m. Koibito is favourite at $2.90 with Unibet, yet a form line of 4-2-2-2-7 shows a horse that keeps getting close without finishing the job.

Made In Italy offers the cleaner profile. He draws barrier 3, has placed twice from three runs in the last three months, and K McEvoy rides with four wins and ten placings from 18 Gosford rides. A form line of 3-2-3-3-2-5 is honest without being brilliant, and in a maiden that is often enough. At $3.20 with Bet Right he is our pick and the safest leg on the card for a multi.

Koibito is the danger for Waterhouse and Bott with Regan Bayliss, who wins more than a quarter of his Gosford rides. Back Made In Italy to win.

Race 6: Ettalong Diggers Memorial Cup Plate (C1), 4:15PM, 2030m

The staying race on the card and a wide-open one. Scoish Maloish is the only three-year-old in the field, so he gets in light, and he has already run second at Gosford in his only visit. Over 2030m, that weight pull matters late.

Powerful Prayer is the stayer with the most recent experience: six runs in three months for three placings and no wins. He also placed in his only Gosford start, and K S Latham rides. He is the one most likely to be in the finish, but you would want a price to bet him to win.

Don’s Party (3-1-2-6-4-6) has drifted out of form after a win earlier in the preparation. This race had not been priced at the time of writing. Scoish Maloish is a win bet if the price is fair, with Powerful Prayer as the exacta partner.

Race 7: Mr Edward ‘Ted’ Crawley Memorial Race (Bm64), 4:50PM, 1100m

This is the race of the day. Peleus has a form line of 2-4-1-2-2-1, won his only start in the last three months, and ran second in his only Gosford start. He is a horse who keeps putting himself in the finish and now looks to have stepped up.

The booking is the big tell. Tommy Berry has won eight of his 21 rides at this track and hits the frame more than half the time. When a rider of that strike rate is available on a provincial Thursday, connections usually book him for a reason. Mitchell Beer and George Carpenter have only sent six runners here, but one won and three placed.

The worry is weight. Peleus carries top weight in a Benchmark 64 sprint, and Speedy Henry gets in well under him. Speedy Henry ran second in his only Gosford start, and R P Northam’s four runners here have all placed, though none has won. He is the one to beat for the minor money.

He’s Cool won twice earlier in his form line of 1-3-1-6-8-8 but has finished well back in the three runs since. Boom Break won his most recent start, but has not raced in the last three months.

No market was up at the time of writing. Peleus is the strongest win bet on the card, and Speedy Henry is the danger to cover in exotics.

Race 8: Viridian Financial Group (Bm64), 5:25PM, 1100m

Fourteen runners, a 1100m sprint and plenty of course winners. Dietrich has the best Gosford record of anything running today, one win and two placings from three starts, and that is the case for him. The case against is two runs in the last three months that averaged seventh.

Fovea is our pick. Two starts have produced a win and a second, so this one is still on the way up, and Tommy Berry rides for Bjorn Baker. That combination has three wins and 16 placings from 33 rides together, and Baker places with 44% of his Gosford runners. Barrier 10 is the only real knock in a big field.

Premium and Sacrosanct both won on their only Gosford start, and Panta Rhei has placed three times from four recent runs. Scuro Star (1-2) is the other lightly raced type, and Peter Snowden has won with three of his 11 Gosford runners.

No prices were up at the time of writing. Fovea to win, with Dietrich the danger off his course form.

Where the money goes

NAP: Peleus (Race 7, 4:50PM). A last-start winner with Gosford form and the track’s in-form rider on top. Top weight is the only question.

Value: Overshadow (Race 1, 1:15PM). $4.20 with Bet Right for a recent winner when the favourite has not won in seven runs looks generous.

Banker: Made In Italy (Race 5, 3:40PM). Good gate, McEvoy on, and placed twice from three recent runs in a maiden where his two main rivals have draw or finishing doubts. $3.20 with Bet Right.

Each-way: Brutal Advance (Race 3, 2:25PM). Three straight seconds make him the most reliable place chance on the card at $5.25 with Bet Right.

Course angle: Tommy Berry at Gosford. Eight wins from 21 rides, and he has Peleus in Race 7, Fovea in Race 8 and Oakfield Virginia in Race 3. A Berry and Fovea leg off the back of Peleus makes a sensible late double.

If Widdup’s debutant We Are One wins Race 2, the Schofield and Widdup booking will be the first thing to check on the next Gosford card.
