Fannie Bay Racing Tips 24 Oct 2026: Field Of Flutes Again?

Overview

Field Of Flutes won last time out, has three wins and six placings from nine Fannie Bay starts, and now has to do it again with 62.5kg on its back. Whether the weight stops a proven course horse is the question that decides the best race on this card, and it is also our best bet of the day.

Five races make up Saturday’s Darwin program, starting with a 1300m maiden at 2:17PM and finishing with a 1600m handicap at 5:05PM. Our Fannie Bay racing tips cover all five, and one name runs through most of them: J R Todd, who rides for G Clarke in four races and has ridden more winners here than anyone else on the card. The track form is deep enough this week that several horses have ten starts at the course, so we can lean on proper numbers rather than guesswork. The quaddie covers Races 2 to 5, and we have a firm view in three of those legs.

What Fannie Bay gives us today

This is a card built on local horses who know the track. Plenty of today’s runners have raced here eight, nine or ten times, which makes the course tables unusually reliable.

Fannie Bay race by race

Race 1: Book Melbourne Cup Day At Dtc Mdn Plate, 2:17PM, 1300m

Nobody in this maiden has won a race at Fannie Bay, so treat it with caution. Macaverty is the pick on the strength of its latest run, a second that broke a sequence of midfield finishes. It has placed once from four starts here, and Jessica Booth (12 winners from 71 rides at the track) takes the ride with 57kg.

Brave Heritage is the danger. Its form line closes with three straight thirds, so it keeps finding the frame, and it carries 59kg from barrier 9. Lady Fireball has two fourths from its latest runs and draws the rail, but six course starts without a placing keeps it out of the win discussion.

Small each-way on Macaverty. This is a watch race for anyone wanting to keep their powder dry for the quaddie.

Race 2: NT News Hcp (64), 2:59PM, 1200m

Ankle Rolex is a genuine Fannie Bay specialist. Ten starts here have produced four wins and seven placings, which means it wins four in ten and runs in the first three seven times out of ten. The form line of 3-1-1-1-3-3 reads like a horse that never runs a bad race on this track, and Billy Cray partners it again from barrier 8 with 59kg.

Order Online is the horse to beat it. It has placed in all five Fannie Bay starts, winning one, and its last two runs were seconds. The issue is 61kg as topweight in a 1200m handicap, giving Ankle Rolex two kilos. Todd and Clarke combine here, which keeps it firmly in the frame.

Win bet on Ankle Rolex, with an exacta saver back to Order Online. In the quaddie, take both.

Race 3: Ladbrokes Tote Win +10% In October (Bm76), 3:49PM, 1200m

The weight is the only real argument against Field Of Flutes. It carries 62.5kg, three kilos more than anything else in a field of seven, but its Fannie Bay record of three wins and six placings from nine starts says it handles the track better than anything else in the race. The form line of 2-5-6-2-2-1 shows a horse that has been building, with that last-start win following back-to-back seconds.

Over the last three months it has won once and placed three times from five starts and banked more than $30,000, the most in the race. Todd rides from barrier 4 for a stable that has sent out 35 winners at this track.

Genetic Freak is the danger. It has a win and two placings from three recent runs, has won once at the track from four starts, and gets in with 59.5kg. If the weight does tell on Field Of Flutes late, this is the one that benefits.

Win bet on Field Of Flutes. It is the strongest selection on the card.

Race 4: Val Scott Memorial Hcp (58), 4:27PM, 1100m

Meet Me At The Bar or Warrego? One has the course record, the other has the momentum. Meet Me At The Bar has two wins and five placings from eight Fannie Bay starts, and over the last three months it has two wins and three placings from five runs, more prize money than anything else in this field. The trouble is barrier 13 with 61kg over 1100m, which could leave it caught wide with no cover.

Warrego won last start and has won one of its two Fannie Bay runs. It draws barrier 12, so the width question applies to both, but it carries a kilo less. Trainer D Leech wins close to a third of his races here (11 from 34), which is a strike rate worth respecting.

Pafitis is the safer place play for Todd and Clarke: a second last start and four placings from eight course runs. Predicting has the best draw of the main chances in barrier 2 but ran fifth last time.

Meet Me At The Bar each-way, with a smaller win bet on Warrego. In the quaddie, go wide with those two plus Pafitis.

Race 5: Pointsbet Hcp (70), 5:05PM, 1600m

Fury and Bruno Bruno share an identical Fannie Bay record of three wins and seven placings from ten starts. Fury gets the nod because it is in better current form: a win and a second from two runs in the last three months, and a form line finishing 2-1-1-2. Todd rides for Clarke again, from barrier 4 with 61kg.

Bon’s Your Back is the danger on current form, a last-start winner with a win and three placings from seven runs in the last three months, though it also carries 61kg. Bruno Bruno ran sixth last time, which is why it sits behind Fury, but at 57.5kg and with that course record it is the obvious place bet.

Win bet on Fury, and Bruno Bruno each-way.

Where the money goes

NAP: Field Of Flutes (Race 3, 3:49PM). Nine Fannie Bay starts for three wins and six placings, a last-start win and Todd in the saddle. The weight is real, but so is the class edge.

Value: Warrego (Race 4, 4:27PM). A last-start winner, a course winner, and a D Leech stable that wins a third of its races here. It should be overlooked for the more established names.

Banker: Fury (Race 5, 5:05PM). Seven placings from ten course starts and two strong recent runs. The safest leg for a multi.

Each-way: Bruno Bruno (Race 5, 5:05PM). The same course record as Fury, a lighter weight and a profile built for the frame.

Course angle: J R Todd for G Clarke. Twenty-two wins from 111 rides together at Fannie Bay, and they team up in four races today.

If Todd and Clarke keep converting at one in five together here, their runners will be the first thing to check on every Fannie Bay card.
