Palmerbet bet options explained
There are numerous betting options available at Palmerbet. Here is a list of bet types available on racing:
Win
The most popular bet type is win betting. Your horse must finish first past the post to receive a winning payout.
Place
Your horse must finish first, second or third past the post in races where there are eight or more runners. If the race has between five to seven starters, then only two place dividends will be paid out. If the race has four or less, then no place betting is available on the race.
Each-Way
An each-way bet is a combination of a win and place bet. You are staking an even amount on both the win and place. For example, a $10 each-way bet would mean you have placed $10 on the horse to win and $10 on the horse to place.
Quinella
You must correctly select the first two horses past the post in any order.
Exacta
Like a Quinella, except you must pick the first two horses past the post in the correct order.
Trifecta
Correctly identify the first, second and third horses past the post in the correct order.
First Four
Correctly identify the first, second, third and fourth horses past the post in the correct order.
Quadrella/Quaddie
You must pick the winner of four nominated races at the same racetrack. Each of the four races is often called a leg of the Quaddie and you can select multiple horses for any or all legs of the Quaddie.
Multi/Multibet
A popular bet type where you combine multiple betting options into a single bet. For example, you may combine three win bets from three different races into a multi. For the multi to be successful, all three horses would need to win their respective races. You can combine win and/or place bets into a multi.
Match Result/Head-to-Head
The most common bet type for sports is a match result or head-to-head bet. You are backing which team or player will win a specific match.
Line
Most sports will have a team that is favourite and sometimes there will be a dominant favourite. Bookmakers offer a line bet for sports in order to try and even up the match.
For example, Collingwood may be -8.5 points against Essendon who are +8.5 points. If you backed Collingwood -8.5, then if the team were to win by nine or more points, your bet would be successful as they have covered the line. If Essendon +8.5 were your preferred bet, then you would be paid out as a winner if Essendon won the match, the game was drawn, or Essendon lost by eight points or less.
Total Game Points Over/Under
This bet type relates to the total points scored in a match by both teams combined. Using our AFL example, if the total game points were set at 136.5, you would have the option of backing over 136.5 or under 136.5. Let’s pretend you chose over 136.5 and the final scoreline was Collingwood 73 to Essendon 65. Adding up the points by both teams, the total is 138 points which means over 136.5 points is a winning bet.
1st Goal Scorer
Another popular bet type is the first goal scorer or first try scorer market. You must pick which player will kick the first goal of the match. Numerous key players will be listed, while Palmerbet also offer a ‘Not Listed, Any Other Player’ option which means if the first goal is scored by someone not listed in the market, then the bet is successful.
PALMERBET REVIEW
Our independent review of bookmaker Palmerbet takes a look at the company’s online product and compares how the Sydney-based bookie stacks up against the competition.
Being 100 percent Australian-owned and operated, Palmerbet has been firmly entrenched in the Sydney bookmaking ring for more than 30 years, and in 2013, they made the move into the online marketplace.
Although their main focus has always been on horse racing, their online sportsbook is one of the best in the industry, with prices that others struggle to match.
100 PERCENT AUSTRALIAN-OWNED
Started by Ted Palmer, the company remains in the care of the family which operates in Sydney and interstate betting rings.
A firmly established and trusted bookmaker, Palmerbet is licensed by Racing NSW and is a member of the NSW bookmakers’ cooperative. They are one of the few 100 percent Australian-owned bookmakers to offer a competitive online bookmaking service.
Palmerbet are noted for offering best odds across numerous sporting markets including NBA, AFL and NRL. They strive to live up to the self-billing of being Australia’s “newest and most exciting online bookmaker” with the intention of “revolutionising the Australian wagering market”.
WEBSITE
The Palmerbet website was clearly well thought out ahead of the launch in August 2013 and it offers a user-friendly experience with markets well-advertised and the displays clear and easy to use.
The left-hand menu offers links to various sporting markets and is separated into Racing and Sports which makes finding your market a very quick process.
You will need to be logged into your betting account to view the latest promotions, while the biggest markets of the day along with ‘Next To Play’ and ‘Next to Race’ are centred on the page for easy and speedy access.

Palmerbet Products and Features
Palmerbet offers some excellent products and features. Here are the best Palmerbet products and features on offer:
Multi Builder
Multi-bets, also known as multis, are a popular bet type in both racing and sports. A minimum of two bets, known as legs, must be included and odds for each of the respective bets are multiplied together to give a combined odds total. For example, a multi containing odds of $1.54, $1.70 and $2.20 would equate to combined odds of $5.76. If all three bets are successful, then the multi would be successful; if any of the legs fail, the multibet is unsuccessful. Palmerbet offers multis across racing and sports, as well as Same Game Multi and Same Race Multi options.
Enhanced Odds
Palmerbet will often provide enhanced odds on your favourite racing and sporting events. They offer weekly special markets ranging from player specials, team specials and boosted odds for horses.
Make sure you check regularly for any Palmerbet promotions on offer. Please note, you will need to be a member of Palmerbet to view promotional offers. If you do not have a Palmerbet account, see our ‘Signing up with Palmerbet & Placing Your First Bet – A Step by Step Guide’ section for full details on how to join Palmerbet.
Live Betting
Rival bookmakers have a leg-up over Palmerbet when it comes to live betting markets. At Palmerbet, you will need to call them in order to place a live bet, just like other Australian bookmakers, but you will not be able to see live odds markets which are visibly displayed at bookmakers such as bet365 and Sportsbet.
Protest Payout
Protest Payout is available on every Australian horse and harness race. This applies to fixed odds bets only. Therefore, if your horse is first past the post but subsequently loses via protest, you will still be paid out a winner. See the Palmerbet website for all promotional terms and conditions.
Racing Money Back Specials
Palmerbet offer money back specials on nominated races. This applies to the first fixed odds win bet on nominated races and does not include each-way bets.
If the horse you back finishes second or third in one of the nominated thoroughbred races, you will receive a bonus bet matching the value of your stake up to a maximum of $50.
Customer Service
The Palmerbet Customer Service team can be reached by email 24/7 or by telephone from 8:00am-6:00pm every day. There is no longer a live chat option with Palmerbet which is one of the downsides of their customer service.
