INGLIS SIRES’ BETTING SNAPSHOT

Cylinder is a solid favourite with ladbrokes at the $2.20 ahead of the Victorian contender, Veight. Do Corleone is a bit of a drifter out to $7, while the promising Maher/Eustace galloper, Brave Mead is at $8.50. 

There are 13 runners in the Group 1 for the youngsters and some of these will have a bit of upside. Empire Of Japan is another that is easy and it out to $15, while Cafe Millennium is a $17 chance. Maharba heads the rest of the contenders at the $18. 

INGLIS SIRES’ FORM ANALYSIS

Four runners come out of the Golden Slipper that was taken out by Shinzo and they are Cylinder (2nd), Don Corleone (4th), Empire Of Japan (5th) and Militarize (13th). 

Cylinder had won his two starts prior to that and settled handy in the Slipper but was run down late. The son of Exceed And Excel went 8.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner and inferior only to the 12.1 lengths faster that Don Corleone set in a quickly run Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) prior to the Slipper. 

Don Corleone settled midfield in the Golden Slipper and found clear room at the 250m before running on. Empire Of Japan was posted wide without cover early on then was hampered. He also attacked the line well and should enjoy the 1400m. Militarise suffered interference but finished a mile away and will need some Chris Waller magic in order to improve for this.

Cafe Millennium has form around that trio and claimed the Pierro Plate (1100m) two starts ago with Don Corleone running 4th. But he was then last of the five runners in the Todman Stakes (1200m) behind Cylinder at his most recent run. 

Three runners come up after having their most recent starts in Victoria. They are Veight, Brave Mead and Butch Cassidy. All are last start winners. Veight went 5.5 lengths faster than standard when claiming the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce (1400m) at Flemington and is a winner at the trip. 

That was just his second start and claimed victory by two lengths, following on from his six-length romp on debut. Amur has since come out and claimed the Group 3 Ballieu Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill after running 3rd behind Veight. 

Brave Mead comes from the Maher/Eustace camp and has won his past two by a combined margin of nearly seven lengths. He went just 0.4 lengths faster than standard when claiming the St Albans Stakes (1200m) last time out but looked to have a bit in reserve and we must respect the stable. Butch Cassidy is one of two from the Waterhouse/Bott stable and won at Mornington last time. 

He is likely to need to produce a big personal best. Hard to make a case for some of the others in the race. Outside hopes go to Maharba. 

INGLIS SIRES’ TIPS AND BEST BETS

Keen on the Slipper form and no reason to jump off Cylinder. He is the most proven of the youngsters and nothing wrong with his run in the Slipper when going down late to the impressive Shinzo. He has soundly beaten a number of rivals from this race when they have met. James McDonald and barrier 4 are ticks, while the son of Exceed And Excel should run out a strong enough 1400m to take this one out.
