MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO GUINEAS BETTING SNAPSHOT
The betting suggests that this is a wide-open race and it is the Chris Waller-trained Chrysaor that heads the market at the $5 quote, just ahead of Cifrado at $6.50, alongside the unbeaten Sydney galloper, Sydney Bowler. Abounding is the only other horse in single figures and is at $7.
There are 18 contenders in action as well as five emergencies that will be out to sneak into the field. Royal Tribute is at $10, while Infatuation is at $11. Weigall Tiger ($17), Triffling ($18), Show Me Mercy ($18) and Veecee ($19) are among a host of other fancies.
MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO GUINEAS FORM ANALYSIS
Five of the field come out of the Vo Rogue Plate (1350m), which was taken out by Cifrado on December 30 ahead of Chrysaor. The winner settled last of the 10 runners and was able to overcome the slow tempo by running over the top of them late in the piece to go 1.9 lengths faster than standard benchmark.
The runner-up looked home at the 200m mark but was run down late. He was first up off a nine week break and should strip fitter. Deep Respect (4th), Zouphoria (5th) and Show Me Mercy (6th) are the other contenders to come out of that lead up. Show Me Mercy had a few excuses and heads into this as the first emergency.
Sydney Bowler boasts the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, going 6.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark to claim a BenchMark 72 at Randwick over the 1300m on the same day. He looks promising but will have to do it from the visitors draw of 17, which might come into 13 after the removal of the emergencies.
Only Royal Tribute and Infatuation have achieved a better figure in their careers. Royal Tribute went 8.4 lengths faster than standard when 4th behind the subsequent Group 1 winner, Ozzmosis, back in September. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper comes in with a first up win at Gosford and has attracted early support in the betting. Infatuation was also involved in the September race and was runner-up behind Royal Tribute recently.
Veecee creates a bit of interest. The Maher/Eustace galloper resumed at Caulfield recently and produced the fastest last 400m behind Ginger N Pink when 3rd over the 1200m. He should have some upside and the stable must be respected.
Triffling and Weigh Tiger provided the quinella in the recent City To Surf Plate (1600m) at Eagle Farm. That pair drop back to the 1400m and it was Weigall Tiger that defeated Triffling over that trip two starts ago with the result being reversed last time.
MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO GUINEAS TIPS AND BEST BETS
Sydney Bowler can measure up in the 3YO Guineas. The John O’Shea-trained galloper will be out to continue the perfect start to his career after three wins to kick of and produced some neat figures last time when winning by more than two lengths from King Of Dubai. That came in a 10-horse field and we reach 18 in this race. Field will string out a bit and the son of Deep Field should be able to find cover in the early stages from the barrier.
