MEMSIE STAKES BETTING SNAPSHOT

I Wish I Win is the $3.60 favourite with betright for the Memsie Stakes ahead of the last start PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) winner, Mr Brightside, who will have to do it from barrier 15. Alligator Blood is back again for another preparation and is at $4.80, while Osipenko is a $9.50 shot.

There are 15 runners in the $750,000 affair with Princess Grace ($10) and Annavisto ($12) other fancies, while Duke De Sessa ($23), The Inevitable ($26) and Amenable ($26) head the rest. 

MEMSIE STAKES FORM ANALYSIS

Eight of the 15 runners will be resuming on Saturday, including the race favourite, I Wish I Win. The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained galloper had a three start autumn campaign that culminated with a win in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. 

He resumed in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) and went more than 13 lengths faster than standard benchmark in all three of his runs. The former Kiwi won over the 1400m at Caulfield when fresh a year ago, going 10.8 lengths faster than standard and might be more suited over this distance range. 

Mr Brightside went 12.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark when resuming in the PB Lawrence Stakes, showing his class in that Group 2. He just needs to do it from the barrier and might look to push across early on. 

I suspect the likes of Alligator Blood and Annavisto might head forward and the field should string out a bit. Alligator Blood claimed the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Sandown in the autumn when fresh, going 9.6 lengths faster than standard off a slow early tempo to knock over Mr Brightside that day. The seven-year-old draws barrier 14. 

Annavisto files first up and might take a bit of catching. She has gone 11.5 lengths faster than standard or better at her past three fresh runs, winning two and finishing runner-up in another. One of those was at Caulfield and she will be ridden by Damian Lane, who strikes at 22% for the Price/Kent Jnr stable, providing a 27% profit on investment for punters. Annavisto went 15.2 lengths faster than standard when resuming last year at Flemington. That figure is the best that any horse in this race has produced. 

Princess Grace brings plenty of interest. The Chris Waller mare has now had three starts for the stable since coming from overseas. She resumed in the Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick a fortnight ago,  finishing  runner-up behind Fangirl. The seven-year-old might need to produce a personal best to match these and went 5.4 lengths faster than standard in that race. 

Osipenko also comes out of the Winx Stakes. The four-year-old was back and wide in that race and ran on for 5th. At his last preparation, the son of Pierro was a three length improver on figures when winning at Rosehill. 

The Inevitable is a rough hope. The Tasmanian galloper won six on the trot in the Apple Isle before coming over to place 3rd in the All-Star Mile (1600m) in the autumn, finishing ahead of Alligator Blood. 

Is there a diamond in the rough? Amenable and Duke De Sessa are likely to need to produce p.b’s to go close. Aegon was the eye-catcher behind Mr Brightside in the PB Lawrence, producing the fastest last 200m to place 3rd and is not without a chance. 

Nonconformist was a brilliant winner when first up in the autumn, going 13.2 lengths faster than standard to take out the Blamey Stakes (1600m). He might be worth some shrapnel on that run but is a shade inconsistent. I suspect that Steinem and Bank Maur will need the run, while Bandersnatch and Western Empire look outclassed. 

MEMSIE STAKES TIPS AND BEST BETS

Keen on Annavisto at the price. She has proven to be a bit of a machine when fresh in the past, winning four of six, while she also performs well at the track and trip, winning two of four. Like the placement of this mare by the Price/Kent Jnr stable. Hard to knock I Wish I Win. He consistently produces excellent figures and is a deserved favourite. Exotic and quaddie punters will definitely have to include Mr Brightside, while Nonconformist is one worth throwing in at a bit of a price.
