QUEEN OF THE TURF STAKES BETTING SNAPSHOT
The mares go at it in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes and it is Colette that is the $4.75 favourite with bet365 after the barrier draw just ahead of Icebath ($6) and the unbeaten galloper, Yonce ($7).
Fangirl takes on the older horses after winning the Vinery Stud Stakes (1850m) at Newcastle last week and is at $10, while Lighthouse ($13), Promise Of Success ($15), Annavisto ($17) and Steinem ($17) are next best.
QUEEN OF THE TURF STAKES FORM ANALYSIS
Colette comes back to mares grade and has won her past two when tackling her own sex, with those wins coming in Melbourne last spring. The Godolphin galloper had things go against her in the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) two starts back before chasing home the wet tracker, Forbidden Love, in the George Ryder Stakes (1500m), finishing runner-up behind that horse.
She went 7.1 lengths faster than standard in that race. Last spring she improved seven lengths on figures at this stage to go 14.1 lengths faster than standard when taking out the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and she is six wins from 10 starts on rain affected tracks.
Best last start benchmark figures belong to Shout The Bar, who went 13.5 lengths faster than standard when claiming the Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 25. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper won by four lengths that evening, leaving the likes of Barb Raider and Quantum Mechanic in her wake. Hard to see that pair turning the tables.
Fangirl is one of four horses aged three in this race and comes into calculations on the back of a win in the Vinery Stud Stakes (1850m) at Newcastle on March 28. She won the Light fingers Stakes (1200m) earlier this preparation at Randwick and had excuses in a couple of runs in between.
Yonce will be out to make it seven from as many starts and just keeps getting the job done. Her personal best benchmark figure is 11 lengths faster than standard and she must be respected as she knows where the post is.
Icebath likes the wet and had to switch off heels in the Doncaster Mile before running on for 3rd behind Mr Brightside. She is on the back-up and went 11 lengths faster than standard in that race.
Lighthouse was four lengths off the winner in that race but had little luck and claimed the Coolmore Classic (1500m) at her start prior. Only concern with her is that she has been up for a while but she gets the ride from Jamie Kah and the Maher/Eustace team must be respected.
Five runners come out of the Emancipation Stakes (1500m) that was taken out by Promise Of Success at Newcastle. Vangelic was wide and without cover finishing 3rd, while Annavisto was 4th in that race.
QUEEN OF THE TURF STAKES TIPS AND BEST BETS.
Going with the class runner here and that is Colette. She has been superior when tackling mares grade and we know that she loves a wet track. Her peak performance came at the same stage of the spring when claiming the Empire Rose Stakes and should find a spot in the running line from barrier 9 with James McDonald on board.
