QUEEN OF THE TURF STAKES BETTING SNAPSHOT

It is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained import, Alcohol Free, that is the $3.50 favourite with TAB in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes ahead of the New Zealander, Levante, and Sirileo Miss at $6. Hope In Your Heart is the only other in single figures and is at $8 after running 4th in the Doncaster Mile (1600m) last weekend. 

Fangirl also backs up after running in the Doncaster and is at $11 alongside Atishu, while Hinged and Pride Of Jenni are at $15. There are 18 runners plus two emergencies in the field and the likes of Roots, Statement and Purpleplay head the rest at the $26. 

QUEEN OF THE TURF STAKES FORM ANALYSIS

Alcohol Free comes over from the UK and has met only one other contender in this field and that horse is Statement. She narrowly defeated that horse in 2021 so it is hard to get a gauge on current form. Statement was a bit one-paced when 9th in the Emancipation Stakes (1500m) recently at her first run here. 

Alcohol Free comes with a high rating and was purchased by Yulong for a lazy $10 million late last year. She has performed at the top level in the UK and her times indicate she should be more than competitive, while the daughter of No Nay Never sizzled when winning a recent trial. 

Nine of her competitors in this race come out of the Emancipation Stakes (1500m) that was taken out by Roots at Rosehill on March 25. The winner chased hard from just forward of midfield to go a healthy 9.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark. 

Atishu produced the best late sectionals and splits from the 800m mark to finish runner-up. Finepoint tuned up nicely by finishing 3rd. 

One of the better form references for this is the Doncaster Mile and Hope In Your Heart produced a personal best by going 10.7 lengths faster than standard to finish just over a length from Mr Brightside. She drew wide and was forced back before producing the fastest last 200m but rises 6.5kg in weight. 

Fangirl rises 3.5kg and had form around Anamoe prior to her Doncaster run, placing behind the champion in all three of her runs to kick off her preparation. She can be an improver back against her own sex. 

Sirileo Miss has been on fire this time around and comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of those that had their last start in Australia, going 12.9 lengths faster thanks standard when winning the Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valle last time. She went 13.6 lengths faster than standard when victorious at Flemington prior to that and just needs to handle the Sydney way of going. 

Pride Of Jenni couldn’t sneak into the Doncaster field and is another with some excellent last start figures, going 11.4 lengths faster than standard when runner-up in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic. She maintained her figures at this stage of her last preparation and might take up the running with Robbie Dolan on board. 

Levante is the other key hope in the market and was 5th behind Anamoe in the George Ryder Stakes, landing behind Fangirl. She was last on what was a slow tempo and three wide but did produce the fastest last 400m, while she has won 12 of 22. 

QUEEN OF THE TURF STAKES TIPS AND BEST BETS

Willing to stick with Sirileo Miss in this race. She has done the job for us in recent times in Melbourne and hard not to ignore her recent figures. The Symon Wilde-trained five-year-old has won her last two by a combined margin of over nine lengths and the form behind her has held up, while she is a four time winner over the distance. She is yet to race the Sydney way of going but the Victorians have more than held their own in recent weeks in Sydney, while she has drawn to get the gun run from barrier 3 with Ben Melham on board. No knock on Alcohol Free but I wouldn’t have minded seeing her with a run under her belt first.
