Rosehill Guineas Tips & Preview 2023
Looking for Rosehill Guineas tips and best bets? We dissect times and form to find the winner of the 2023 Rosehill Guineas at Rosehill.
ROSEHILL GUINEAS BETTING SNAPSHOT
The first of five Group 1 races at Rosehill sees the three-year-olds in action in the Rosehill Guineas and it is the Godolphin contender, Perciles, that is the $2.80 favourite with Palmerbet, ahead of last year’s Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) runner-up, Elliptical, at $4.40.
Lindermann is one of four runners to come out of the Randwick Guineas (1600m) and is at the $6.50, while Matcha Latte ($8) and Manzoice ($9.50) are the others under double figures. Williamsburg ($11), Brosnan ($16) , Ausbred Rising Sun ($20) and Northern Barrage ($101) are the others in the nine-horse field.
ROSEHILL GUINEAS FORM ANALYSIS
Pericles was impressive in the Autumn Stakes (1800m) at Sandown three weeks ago, clearing out to a three-length win ahead of Mr Maestro. The son of Street Boss went 7.9 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner.
He should have more to come and his peak figure came when third up last spring, going 10.6 lengths faster than standard in the Moonee Valley Vase (2040m), finishing 3rd behind Berkeley Square. That is the best figure that any runner in this race has produced.
Elliptical has had two runs this time in and should be suited by the 2000m. He probably settled a tad too close to the speed when fading into 7th position in the Australian Guineas (1600m) at his most recent start and has some solid form over the 2000m.
The Randwick Guineas is always one of the key lead ups towards this race and Lindermann was brave when runner-up behind Communist, jumping from a BenchMark 78 win to go 3.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark. Williamsburg, Matcha Latte and Manzoice will need to improve on what they dished up. Manzoice possibly has the most upside but needs further and the Australian Derby (2500m) looks his go.
Brosnan comes out of the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) and was strong late, producing the fastest last 200m to go 5.1 lengths faster than standard. He is worth a bit of thought at the price.
Ausbred Rising Sun was 3rd behind Pericles and is another that might have a bit of upside. He was jumping from a Newcastle Class 1 win that day and set a personal best. Slight discrepancy in the odds for Northern Barrage, who was beaten nearly five lengths by Pericles but did produce the second fastest last 400m.
ROSEHILL GUINEAS TIPS AND BEST BETS
I am going with Pericles in the Rosehill Guineas and loved what he did at Sandown, while we can take confidence out of the fact that he produced some excellent figures when getting out to the 2000m at his last preparation. He looks to have come back in excellent order. The James Cummings-trained galloper comes back to Sydney after kicking off his career with a win and a runner-up over shorter distances the clockwise way of going and has clearly come back in good order. James McDonald should be within striking distance from barrier 7 and the pair will be very hard to beat.
