VINERY STUD STAKES BETTING SNAPSHOT

The Vinery Stud Stakes sees the fillies go at it for Group 1 glory and it is the New Zealand contender, Prowess that heads the market with Palmerbet at the $2.50 quote, just ahead of the dominant Kembla Grange Classic (2000m) winner, Pavitra, at $3.40. 

Fireburn jumps up from the 1500m of the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) and is the only other runner under double figures at $8.50. Soul Choice and Pierossa are both at $13, while Call Di heads the rest at the $17. 

VINERY STUD STAKES FORM ANALYSIS

Prowess has won six of eight and is unbeaten beyond 1600m. She defeated the best of her age group two starts ago in New Zealand by five lengths, taking out the Group 2 Fillies Classic (2000m) before knocking over another youngster, Campionessa, at Group 1 level in the Bonecrusher Stakes (2000m) at her most recent start, surviving a protest. La Crique was 3rd in that race. 

Seven runners come out of the Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) and it was Pavitra that was too good for her rivals that day, settling handy before kicking clear to win by four lengths from So Dazzling. The Richard & Will Freedman-trained galloper was second up that day and went six lengths faster than standard, running quicker time than what Prowess produced at the same distance in NZ. 

Pavitra should have improvement to come at her third run back and was placed in her two runs at the distance back in the spring in Melbourne, before finishing runner-up in the Kennedy Oaks (2500m). The Richard & Will Freedman-trained galloper settled handy and was strong to the line at Kembla, producing the fastest last 200m.

Hard to make a case for those that finished behind her, given the way the daughter of American Pharaoh finished off. So Dazzling was solid from back in the field to produce the second fastest last 200m. 

Fireburn claimed the Golden Slipper (1200m) as a juvenile this time a year ago then took out the Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) after that. She hasn’t won since then and was ok when 4th in the Phar Lap Stakes but I am willing to overlook her. 

Soul Choice comes in with a different formline to the others, having raced in Tasmania at her past three starts. She had form around Dunkel before winning the Strutt Stakes (2100m) and Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) at Launceston. Her times stack up and she went 6.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark at her last run, which is the best last start figure of the local hopes. 

VINERY STUD STAKES TIPS AND BEST BETS

The New Zealand youngsters have shown that they are up to the mark in recent years and this year with Legarto coming out at beating the boys in the Australian Guineas at Flemington. But I am willing to take Prowess on and am going with Pavitra. She won the Kembla Grange Classic in reasonable time and seemed to have more to offer, while the step up to the 2000m will suit. Soul Choice might be worth something each-way as well. Look for her to cross over early on with Tim Clark on board and be in the mix for a long way.
