Ascot Racing Tips 14 Oct 2026 — can the inside gates win the day?
Ascot can make smart punters feel very clever, or very silly, depending on one thing: where your horse lands in the run. And with today’s meeting set for Good ground on the turf, I’m leaning into a simple angle for these Ascot races: horses that can either hold a spot from a kind draw, or have a rider who consistently solves this track’s little problems.
You don’t need a thousand replays to play today’s card well. You need a view on pace, barriers, and which stables keep finding ways to get their horses to finish off here. These Ascot racing tips are written like you’d want them from a mate who’s done the work: opinions first, evidence second, and no pretending every race is a confidence job.
We’ve got four races in this preview (all Flat), and the best betting opportunity comes in the mid-card sprint where the map gives us a clean story. Let’s get into it.
Ascot — the setup
Track: Ascot (Course ID 24)
Surface: Turf
Going: Good
Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have only one or two Ascot starts on record, so I’m not crowning any new “track specialists” off tiny samples. Where the course stats do help is with the riders and trainers who repeatedly deliver here.

Two jockey names keep popping up as reliable Ascot problem-solvers. Lucy Fiore has 26 wins from 120 rides here and hits the frame 54 times. Chris Parnham isn’t far behind with 17 wins from 96 and 43 placings. When you’re splitting hairs in races full of similar form, that matters.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lucy Fiore | 120 | 26 | 54 | 21.67 | 45.00 |
| Chris Parnham | 96 | 17 | 43 | 17.71 | 44.79 |
| Holly Nottle | 136 | 17 | 50 | 12.50 | 36.76 |
| B Parnham | 114 | 14 | 42 | 12.28 | 36.84 |
| C Johnston-Porter | 106 | 8 | 34 | 7.55 | 32.08 |
Trainer-wise, three operations stand out on pure strike at this circuit with a real sample: D M Luciani (3 wins from 13), Mitchell Pateman (8 from 37), and T M Andrews (7 from 33). That doesn’t mean you auto-back them, but when they show up with a horse that already profiles well, you can press the button with fewer doubts.
Race-by-race — Ascot predictions
Race 1: Indigenous Tennis & Learning Mdn — 13:54, 1531m
Miss Billie Jean (gate 16) is the one I want to be with, and yes, I know that draw reads ugly at first glance. The reason I’m still landing there is that her profile is the right one for a maiden like this: she’s already shown she can run a race (form: 2), she gets in at 54kg, and she looks like the type that improves sharply second-up off a debut that usually teaches them plenty.
This is a messy maiden with a few who’ve had chances. Energetic (gate 7) has the look of a horse who keeps finding one or two better (form 554946), and Flavoursome (gate 12) hasn’t screamed “win next” either. If you’re betting into exposed types, you’re basically paying to be disappointed again.
The main danger is War Trail from gate 1. Inside draws at Ascot can turn into cheap petrol if the rider holds a spot early, and that alone can swing a maiden. If War Trail finds the fence and gets a breather, Miss Billie Jean might need to be genuinely better to overcome the map.
Staking: Small win bet Miss Billie Jean. If the market is skinny from the wide draw, I’d rather watch and note her for next start than force it.
Race 2: Murlpirrmarra Connection Ltd (Rs0ly) — 14:29, 1312m
Here’s the puzzle: do you trust the progressive last-start winner with the stable rider aboard, or do you side with the horse who keeps putting himself right on the doorstep? I’m siding with the latter. Official Business (gate 8) reads like a 3yo that’s found his level and is ready to keep cashing in: form 44221, trained by N D Parnham and ridden by Chris Parnham, who rides Ascot as well as anyone (17 wins from 96 here).
I also don’t mind that Official Business has already had an Ascot look. It wasn’t a placing (one run here, finished fourth), but it’s a bit of education that can matter in these 1300m races where positioning decides everything.
The horse I respect most as the threat is Grey Ol’ Day (gate 3). He’s going the right way (form 731), and the draw gives him every chance to stalk and pounce. If the leaders overdo it, he’s the one who can land last crack.
Firearm (gate 6) is the other key player. He’s a last-start winner (330721) and has placed once from two Ascot runs, but he carries 60kg and might have to do more work in the run than he wants.
Staking: Win bet Official Business. Save on Grey Ol’ Day if you want cover for the map horse from the good gate.
Race 3: MV & Co Hcp (C1) — 15:05, 1094m
This is the race where the shape matters more than the last-start margin. Over 1094m, you either hold a spot early or you’re praying for gaps. That’s why I keep coming back to Brinson from gate 1. The form is mixed (41-078), but the map is gold, and Lucy Fiore takes the ride. At Ascot she wins a stack of races (26 from 120) and she’s not afraid to be positive when the inside is there to be used.
The horse with the most obvious current momentum is Star Martini (gate 9). The form line reads like a horse who keeps turning up (472122) and he’s been running well without getting things perfectly his own way. The query is the draw in a sharp sprint. If he’s posted, he’ll need to be clearly better than these.
River Angel (gate 6) also makes sense as a danger. He’s been close-up lately (427-22) and carries 55.5kg, which keeps him right in the finish if the leaders run along and give the swoopers their chance.
A small course note: Jolson Al has only one Ascot start but did place (finished second). That’s a positive, but it’s still only one data point and he now jumps from gate 11, which can turn a clean run into a messy one quickly.
Staking: Each-way Brinson (map-driven). If you’re more conservative, back Star Martini to win and keep Brinson as the saver.

Race 4: DP & LK Patten Hcp (C3) — 15:40, 1312m
The market usually leans to the classy name or the topweight, but this looks like a race where the pattern points elsewhere. I want Algadon Storm (gate 1) on-side. He’s got the kind of profile that wins these: honest form (15-427), a light weight (52.5kg), and the inside alley that lets the rider control the terms. From barrier 1, he can hold the rail, let others do the work around him, and pinch lengths when they swing.
The favourite danger to me is Call Me Invincible (gate 3). He’s in cracking touch (324231), and the draw sets him up to land in the first four without burning. If he’s as strong late as the recent form suggests, he’s the one most likely to bully my pick out of the finish.
Empire Of Rome (gate 2) is the upside runner. Form 61 and still learning. If he’s a touch above this grade, the map (2) gives him every chance to show it quickly.
I’m happy taking on a few of the others on either recent form or map. Centre Bond (gate 10) and Snippy Sean (gate 11) have to overcome wider gates and don’t arrive with the same momentum. Jemconi (gate 8) is honest, but he’ll need the breaks at the right time.
Staking: Win bet Algadon Storm. Exacta saver with Call Me Invincible running second if you like playing the map.
The plays
If you’re only betting one race, make it the last. Algadon Storm maps like the horse that gives you the least grief: low weight, barrier 1, and a run style that doesn’t need luck. That’s the kind of Ascot profile that keeps you in the game even if the day gets messy elsewhere.
NAP: Algadon Storm (Race 4, 15:40) to win. Barrier 1 at 1312m with only 52.5kg is a strong setup in this grade.
Value: Brinson (Race 3, 15:05) each-way. Gate 1 with Lucy Fiore is a combination that can make up for patchy recent form.
Banker for multis: Official Business (Race 2, 14:29) as the win anchor. Chris Parnham on a horse that’s been knocking the door down (44221) is the safest profile on the card.
Each-way angle: If you want a lighter-risk play, keep Brinson as the place piece and don’t get greedy in the sprint.
Course angle to keep: When in doubt at Ascot, I’ll keep siding with riders who repeatedly hit the frame here, and today the card keeps funneling you back to Fiore and the Parnham camp. Watch how often they land in the first four again.

Racing starts at 13:54 with Race 1, the Indigenous Tennis & Learning Mdn over 1531m.
Who are the top jockeys at Ascot?
On Ascot’s course numbers, Lucy Fiore leads the key riders engaged today with 26 wins from 120 rides here, while Chris Parnham has 17 wins from 96 and hits the frame 43 times. They’re the two I trust most when the map gets tricky.
Who are the top trainers at Ascot?
Based on meaningful samples at this track, D M Luciani (3 wins from 13 at Ascot), Mitchell Pateman (8 from 37), and T M Andrews (7 from 33) are the trainers with the strongest strike profiles among those relevant to today’s fields.
What are the best bets at Ascot today?
My Ascot best bets are Algadon Storm (Race 4, 15:40) to win, and Official Business (Race 2, 14:29) as the safest win anchor. For an each-way play, I’ll chance Brinson (Race 3, 15:05) purely off the inside gate and the Lucy Fiore factor at this track.
Where can I find the best odds for Ascot races?
Prices move quickly close to jump. The best approach is to compare a few bookies right before you bet, especially for the sprints (Race 3 and Race 4) where the market can overreact to one firm push. If you’re shopping around, start with the main corporates and look for a price that’s holding while others trim.
