There isn’t much exposed form among the debutants/short-form horses, so I’m leaning into race shape and the few runners who’ve shown they can cope with the job. Leliyn (barrier 4) has gone “52” from two runs and that’s the profile of a horse ready to win a maiden — close enough early, consistent enough, and drawn to get a clean stalk-and-pounce run. Over the last 90 days she’s had two runs for one placing and an average finish of 3.5, which basically backs up what the raw form says: she’s thereabouts.
The watch runner is Silent Legacy (barrier 2). He ran third on debut (“3-”) and a second start is often where they jump. From a soft gate he can settle closer than last time and be in it for a long way.
Staking: Leliyn to win. If the market gets carried away because she’s “the obvious one”, save on Silent Legacy as the improver.
Race 3: Sportsbet Racing Form Mdn Plate — 14:50, 1531
This is the messy maiden — big field, plenty of runners with one or two hints but not much conviction. So I’m not pretending it’s stronger than it is.
The horse I want onside is Elite Thunder (barrier 1, Toeroek). The inside draw is gold at this trip when you’re trying to avoid getting posted three-wide, and the “533-65” string says he’s been competitive in similar grade without finishing it off. If he’s ever going to put one away, it’s when he gets the run of the race — and barrier 1 is exactly that.
The main danger is Discreetly Blue (barrier 4, J Holder). He’s been in the mix across his last few (“225-35”) and he draws to land in the first half without doing any work. If Elite Thunder over-races from the inside and wants to get off the fence, Discreetly Blue is the one who can pinch it with a smoother rhythm.
I’m also keeping an eye on Glouf (barrier 13) and Flying Brant (barrier 7). Both have a “2” next to their name — clearly have ability — but the gate on Glouf makes the ride a decision early.

Race 4: Tqcsi Hcp (C1) — 15:25, 1148
The market problem (even without live odds in the feed) is that plenty of punters will automatically gravitate to the last-start winner, but this looks like a race where weight and position can flip it.
Pub Crawl (barrier 9, Tala Hutchinson) brings the sharpest recent progression: “70-231” is a proper lift, and he gets in with 125.6 while some of the key rivals lug 131+ and 132+. That weight spread is meaningful at 1148m because you’re basically asking them to sustain a sprint off a corner. If Hutchinson can find cover early, Pub Crawl is the one I want peeling out late.
The danger is Gazz (barrier 7). He won last start (“288-1”) and his recent 90-day record is a simple one: one run, one win. That’s hot form, even if it’s only a single data point. The knock is the big weight of 132.2 — he’ll need to be the best horse in the race, not just the best-placed.
Don’t dismiss Elegant Lilly (barrier 2, MS L Stojakovic). She won on her only start at Balaklava and Stojakovic has been a big-game rider at this track in limited rides. She maps to get every favour from gate 2.

That’s not a highlight reel — it’s the week-to-week grinder you can build a multi around. She doesn’t need everything perfect either; she just needs a fair run and a clear lane.
The danger is Meg’s Magic (barrier 11). She’s trending the right way (“864-42”) and if the leaders overdo it, she’s the one who can blouse them late. The wide-ish gate forces her to either snag back or spend fuel early, so she’ll need a ride with patience.
