BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.3 FAWKNER PARK
To the big one of the day and the Annabel Neasham-trained FAWKNER PARK is third-up today and has been well prepared for this contest. Last start, he was second-up and not disgraced when finishing fourth in the Australian Cup Prelude over 1800m at Flemington. Sitting last all the way, he made up ground in the run home, beaten a little over three lengths on the line. It looked an ideal lead-up performance for a tilt at the Cup today. Already a two-time winner at the 2000m, he is unbeaten in two third-up appearances to date as Tyler Schiller steers the ship for the first time. A trouble-free run here sees him as the one to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.3 OUTBACK ANGEL
The Allan McRae-trained OUTBACK ANGEL has finished top-two in all four career starts to date and looks set to keep that trend going today. Last start, the Super One filly was fresh off a 19-week spell when she proved too good in a Class 1 Hcp over the 900m sprint at Goulburn with Kayla Nisbet in the saddle. Unbackable at $1.20, she got the job done just the same. Nisbet sticks with her today as she takes on Class 2 company in a bigger field where she is ideally drawn in gate three and maps to be box-seating on settling. She looks a very promising type and even fitter today, she will take beating in this contest.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.7 SNAP BOOK
Local trainer Donna Scott saddles-up SNAP BOOK here who drops sharply in grade today and looks much better placed in this field. Last start, the Fighting Sun gelding was fresh off a 14-week spell when he faced stiff opposition and finished mid-field in a Class 5 Hcp, here over 1400m with Blaike Mc Dougall aboard. He drew the car park in gate 14 (of 15) that day and after missing the jump by two lengths, settled back in the field. Lacking race fitness, he struggled to make up the ground but passed a few on his way to the line. That run is best forgotten. He comes up with gate four here and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Fitter today, Mc Dougall sticks with him for this assignment and already a winner when second-up and success previously at the track and trip, he look a serious player in this contest.
