Race 5 No. 2 ZAKOUMA- ($2.50) 

ZAKOUMA should be hard to beat in Race 5. The three-year-old has had just the two career starts and didn’t do much on debut at Pakenham before showing improvement last time at Sandown over the 1600m, sticking on to fill the exacta in a BenchMark 64 behind Into You. The Pat Carey-trained galloper jumps to the 2200m but has been supported in the early betting and does look to have a bit of upside on this lot.

Race 7 No.8 JAPANESE EMPEROR- ($4.40) 

The feature is the Bairnsdale Cup and JAPANESE EMPEROR can go close in the $70,000 affair. The Mike Moroney-trained galloper has been racing in town at his past few runs behind some big names and was 4th behind by Another Wil over the 1600m at Flemington on March 2. He was well beaten by that horse, who is a budding star, but wasn’t far behind the likes of Fistoffury, who has since come out and dominated in a $200,000 race at Caulfield. This will be his third run in succession over the mile after closing off well for 5th behind Rumbled Again prior to that. The four-year-old draws to be prominent from barrier 6.

Race 1 No. 9 THAT’SWHATSHESAID- ($6) 

This looks to be a suitable assignment for THAT’SWHATSHESAID. The five-year-old has had just the four career starts and was runner-up at Moe two starts ago over the 1200m before heading to Sandwon and running 9th behind Quickstep. She was slowly away that day before finishing five lengths away, going three lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is more than three lengths better than the next best last start figure of any runner. This looks easier and with any luck early on from the draw, the daughter of Swear can fight out the finish.
