BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.2 ARTHUR THE GREAT ($2.40 with Neds)
Trained at Albury by Donna Scott, ARTHUR THE GREAT is off to a flying start with his racing career and looks set for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Flying Artie gelding made a spectacular start to racing when he destroyed them in a 1200m Maiden Plate at Narrandera. Leading from barrier to box, he gave nothing else a sniff as he crossed the line more than six lengths ahead of them that day. Ideally drawn in gate four today, he should have little trouble in leading here and the rest have the job of catching him. He scrubs-up here as our best of the day.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.3 FILEETA ($1.85 with Ladbrokes)
Wangaratta galloper FILEETA ducks across the bridge today and sees the Corowa track for the first time and looks the one to beat here. Last start, the lightly-raced Deep Field mare resumed off a 21-week break when she beat all but one home in a 1000m Maiden Hcp at Narrandera. Apprentice, Alysha Warren was aboard that day and from barrier rise, tried to lead all the way, but was grabbed near the line by one better, still finishing four lengths clear of the rest. Second-up today, she has just her third race-start and has Warren sticking with her for this assignment. Fitter today, a repeat of that last effort should see her hard to run down here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.4 SMOKIN’ COD ($3.55 with BoomBet)
The Wagga-based galloper SMOKIN’ COD also makes her Corowa debut today and second-up, looks a major player in this contest. Last start, the Cluster mare made a solid return to racing after a 16-week spell when she finished fourth in a 13-strong field on her home track in a Class 3 Hcp over 1200m. She came from back in the field and made up plenty of ground to cross the line 1.5 lengths behind the winner. She draws the outside gate today but maps to drop back from barrier rise and settle near the tail of the field. Fitter for that first-up run and already placed when second-up, she can give this a real shake today.
