Our form expert provides Doomben tips for today’s horse racing at Doomben Racecourse and gives his best bets.
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.1 OCTAVIO ($2.60 with Bet Right)
The Chris Waller-trained OCTAVIO has started his career with no luck at all but looks well placed here to change all that today. Last start, the Pierro gelding found the podium for the fourth time (but no winner’s cheque), when he claimed third prize in a 1350m Maiden at Ipswich. James Orman claimed his third minor prize finish on the galloper in as many starts but remains loyal to the four-year-old by sticking with him for this assignment. Third-up today and rock-hard fit for this, he gets another chance to break through today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.12 TOJAKI ($3.50 with Ladbrokes)
The Stuart Kendrick-trained TOJAKI is unbeaten this time in and looks poised to make it a hat-trick today. Last start, the Zoustar mare came off a crushing win in a 1200m Sunshine Coast Maiden (3.5 lengths) when she franked that effort by taking out a harder BM62 Hcp over a longer 1400m trip on the same track. She clobbered that 14-strong field by two lengths that day from gate 13 (of 13). She is high-flying at the moment and winning form is good form. The four-year-old faces city class gallopers for the first time today but in her frame of mind, a trouble-free run here should see her in the thick of it when it counts.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4: No.6 FLAG HALL ($4.60 with bet365)
Decimated by early scratchings, we’re down to a field of six which just makes the job for FLAG HALL even easier who is yet to miss a podium finish in five starts to date. Last start, the Starspangledbanner colt was shooting for a hat-trick when he came up against Party For Two who made sure he took home second prize that day. The two gallopers vied for favouritism that day but the Lee Freedman-trained colt had to settle for second prize, beaten nearly five lengths in the event. Under set weights conditions here, he sees the Doomben track for the first time and is re-united with Kyle Wilson-Taylor who rode him to his maiden victory three starts back. Rock-hard fit with three starts behind him this preparation, he looks set to give the odds-on favourite (Daytona) a real run for his money today.
