BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.10  QUADRI  ($4.25 with BoomBet)

Former New Zealand galloper, QUADRI, is third-up here and having start number three for the Kelly Schweida stable. Last start, the Savabeel mare had her second start on Australian soil when she came from behind to grab victory in a Class 1 Hcp over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast. The four-year-old won her maiden at Cambridge (NZ) before crossing the Tasman and is yet to miss a top-three finish in five careers starts. Well weighted here, Orman sticks with her and from gate two, she maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. An easy run looks on the cards here and with a clear run home, she looks in the mix today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.5  HELIKEDEMPRETTY  ($4.20 with Neds)

The Robert Heathcote-trained HELIKEDEMPRETTY resumes today and after a recent successful trial, looks ready to go. Last start, the Pariah mare ended her last (three-start) preparation by winning a 1000m Maiden Hcp on the Sunshine Coast. She drew the fence that day and box-seated to the turn before taking over and going on to win by a length on the line. She finished second in a recent barrier trial on this track over the 1000m. Gate five today has her settling near the speed again and Blake Spriggs is the pilot for today’s assignment. With a trouble-free run here, she looks a major contestant for the big prize today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.8  STORM THE FORTRESS  ($4.25 with BoomBet)

First-up today, the Team Edmonds-trained STORM THE FORTRESS has trialled well and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a real threat in this contest. Last start, the Invader gelding ended his last campaign by finishing unplaced (for the first time) in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate, here over the 1350m trip. He drew the outside gate (9) that day and never got into the race. That was New Year’s Eve last year. Since returning to work, he has placed in both contested trials and has James Orman taking the reins for this assignment. He gets the gun-run today from gate one and the stable have slapped the blinkers on him as well. Already a winner when first-up, he should give this a real shake today.
