Race 4:  No.12  ERELLE  ($4 with Ladbrokes)

The Brett Cavanough-trained ERELLE resumed in fine style and second-up here she looks well placed at the weights for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Press Statement filly returned to the track after a 19-week break where she broke through for her maiden win over 1300m at Scone. She drew gate 13 (of 14) that day and settled near last before storming home to win by 1.5 lengths in the end with apprentice Cobi Vitler in the saddle. Up to Class 1 company today, she draws much better in gate two where she maps to settle near mid-field with cover. The mile trip shouldn’t be an issue here as Vitler sticks with her for this assignment. After the claim, she carries 1.5kgs under the limit here and a repeat of that first-up effort puts her right in the ball park today.

Race 6:  No.6  DEVINE CHOPS  ($2.45 with Palmerbet)

Locally-trained by Clint Lundholm, DEVINE CHOPS is second-up today and after two impressive runs to date, looks set for back-to-back wins in this contest. Last start, Invader gelding resumed from a 10-month absence and made a loud statement when destroyed his rivals in a 1010m Maiden at Orange. Ron Simpson took him straight to the lead from barrier rise where he saw nothing but daylight as he crossed the line three lengths clear of the 11-strong field that day. Simpson remains the pilot for this assignment and from an ideal draw in gate two, he maps to settle on the speed again. If he can reproduce his last-start effort here, they might find him hard to run down today.

Race 5:  No.14  MONAZEL  ($11.20 with BoomBet)

Another from the Brett Cavanough stable is MONAZEL who is also second-up today and at the weights, looks in the mix here at odds. Last start, the Under The Louvre mare resumed after almost six months in the paddock when she clobbered her rivals, here in a 1200m Maiden. Cobi Vitler had the reins that day and from gate one, he had her box-seating from the outset. On straightening, Vitler eased her off the fence and soon after she took the lead and that was all she wrote as she went on to win by two lengths as the $2.80 race favourite. She makes the move up on class today and has Vitler steering the ship again. The four-year-old has drawn out today in gate 11 and will need a little luck from there but she does has good early gate speed which has her mapping to settle near mid-field. A trouble-free run from there can see her figure in the finish today at (currently) double-figure odds.
