BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.3  ACROBATIC   ($4.60 with Picklebet)

The Kelly Schweida-trained ACROBATIC is second-up today and as a track specialist, looks ready to produce his best here. Last start the Snitzel gelding was fresh off a 17-week spell when he finished mid-field in Open company over 1200m at Doomben. Prior to that, he ended his last campaign with a win here, over 1100m in Open company. Larry Cassidy has the reins for the first time today and from gate two, the six-year-old maps to be box-seating on settling. Four starts here have resulted in two wins and a close-up third and already a winner when second-up, he ticks enough boxes here to get interested. A trouble-free run today should see him hard to beat.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.12  PRINCE OF MARAKESH  ($10 with Bet Right)

Beaudesert galloper PRINCE OF MARAKESH sees the Ipswich track for the first time today and second-up, looks a genuine winning chance at odds here. Last start, the Shalaa gelding was fresh off a five-month break when he impressed by beating all but one home in a Class 1 over 860m at Gatton. Rikki Jamieson was the pilot that day and had the four-year-old settled outside the leader. It was a fight to the finish as he locked horns with Russian Diva all the way home, being nosed out of first prize right on the line. They clash again here with ‘the Prince’ meeting ‘the Diva’ better at the weights and drawn inside him which may also play a role. Rikki Jamieson sticks with him here (having ridden him to his maiden victory) and already a winner when second-up, he can turn the tables today. He is listed as the second emergency in this re-scheduled meeting (postponed from last Thursday) and should he gain a start, he looks well worth an each-way ticket today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.2  BETTER EXPLAIN  ($13 with Ladbrokes)

The Annabel Neasham-trained BETTER EXPLAIN is second-up here and at odds today, looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding resumed off a 15-week spell and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in a BM65 over 1200m at Warwick. He settled mid-field after overracing, then took the turn the widest runner. He finished off strongly and despite being beaten three lengths on the line, he took plenty of ground off the winner in the run home. Already a winner when second-up and unbeaten over the trip, the four-year-old is ideally drawn in gate two and fitter for that first-up run, an each-way ticket looks the go in this event.
