The locally-trained C’MON MATE is third-up today and finishing top-two in all three starts here, suggests he will be a tough nut to crack on home soil in this contest. Last start, the Divine Prophet gelding came off his (first-up) maiden win (on this track) when he ran into trouble and did well to finish fourth in a Midway Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Wyong. Back home today, regular rider Shaun Guymer is back in the saddle and from gate five, maps to settle near the speed. With a trouble-free run here, he can bounce to the winner’s circle today.

Race 6:  No.1  PENNYPACKER  ($3.20 with bet365)

The Team Snowden-trained PENNYPACKER is third-up today and looks well placed here to continue on with his consistent form. Last start, the well-bred Capitalist gelding made it seven-straight top-four finishes when he finished just behind the placegetters in a BM64 Hcp over 1250m at Canterbury. He settled last that day, seven lengths off the pace but ran home strongly, doing his best work over the final 100m to finish less than two lengths off from the winner. Third-up and even fitter today, the extra trip looks ideal for him now and drawn well in gate four, watch for a big finish from him here.

Race 7:  No.6  COBIA  ($13 with Palmerbet)

One for the each-way enthusiasts here is the Todd Howlett-trained COBIA who is second-up today and ticks all the boxes needed to consider him as a worthy contender for the major prize. Last start, the Hinchinbrook gelding was fresh off a 15-week spell when he beat all but one home in a BM64 over 1200m at Newcastle. Still last on the turn, Mitchell Bell waved the magic wand and weaved his way through traffic, finishing strongly to grab second prize, one bound short of the gold medal. Already a winner when second-up, he has also saluted here at this distance and has Bell remaining aboard, after his four previous rides resulted in a win and two runner-up finishes as well. The five-year-old looks well overs here and worthy of an each-way ticket today.
