BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.1  GLOWSTICKS  ($1.70 with TAB)

The Clinton Taylor-trained GLOWSTICKS is third-up today and should be ready to show that third time lucky is more than just a cliché. Last start, the Pierro gelding made it back-to-back runner-up finishes when he beat all but one home (again) in a 1200m Maiden Plate on this track. While he ran that out, 12.5 lengths slower than benchmark, that is still the best last-start effort here. Nathan (Grubby) Day was aboard for that event and is sticking with him here. He should find plenty of cover from gate five and he maps to settle near mid-field today. Fitter for two runs back and stablemate to the promising Chinny Boom, he looks the one to beat here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.2  THISLAND IS MYLAND  ($1.90 with bet365)

In great touch this time in, the Graeme Green-trained THISLAND IS MYLAND is three starts into this preparation and looks set to continue the good work in this contest. Last start, the Irish-bred gelding turned on a déjà vu performance when yet again, he arrived a second too late and had to settle for the silver medal in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1100m. Although beaten to the line, he still ran his last 600m, 1.3 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in field. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Les Tilley returns here after steering him to victory two starts back on his home track at Rockhampton. The stable have opted for the blinkers today and from gate seven, the four-year-old maps to settle near mid-field with cover. The extra distance today can only enhance his chances of victory and at peak fitness here, he should be figuring in the finish again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.3  DEVIL KICK  ($3.30 with Neds

Rockhampton-based galloper DEVIL KICK is three starts into this preparation and looks set to post another victory today. Last start, the Scissor Kick filly was too far back in the run home to stake a serious challenge when she finished mid-field in a BM58 over 1400m on her home track. Held up most of the way home, she still ran her last 200m strongly and should have finished a lot closer. Ryan Wiggins sticks with her today and from gate three, maps to settle better than mid-field. If she can find her way clear a little earlier, she can give this contest a real shake.
