BEST BET 🏆
Race 2 No. 2 CITIZENSHIP- ($3.30)
Some promising types feature in Race 2 of the day and it is the Maher/Eustace trained CITIZENSHIP that should be hard to beat. He comes down from the Sydney stables and has had two runs in his career, which have been at Canterbury. The son of the Japanese sire, Lord Kanaloa, was a debut winner before tackling a BenchMark 64, leading before just going down late behind Ithadtobezou. The winner and the 5rd place-getter out of that have since provided the quinella in a BenchMark 72. Citizenship looks the possible leader here and has attracted market support, while Jamie Kah on board is another tick.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 1 ZOOM – ($3.90)
Another early winner from the Maher/Eustace stable comes in the form of ZOOM. The former import has made a flying start to his time in Australia, winning three straight. He last stepped out at Bendigo over the 2200m and worked his way into it before the turn before outstaying Mr French. The four-year-old gets out to the 2500m for this and should only get better.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7 No. 2 RED HOT NICC – ($3.80)
Nice race at BenchMark 78 level and no reason to suggest why RED HOT NICC can’t be in the finish. The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper won two on the trot to start the year, including a dominant 5.5 length win when leading all the way to defeat The Haas at the track and trip two starts ago. At his most recent start, the four-year-old tackled a BenchMark 84 at Flemington and worked early before sticking on well for 5rd behind D’Jumbuck. He draws perfectly in barrier 4 for this assignment and might look to dictate. He should be strong late in the piece.
