BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 1 CLEVER MAN ($3.20)

Mount Gambier horseman Trevor White can win another country cup on Sunday with consistent galloper CLEVER MAN. Jordyn Weatherley found herself trapped deep without cover the entire over this trip in Mount Gambier two runs back. She edged closer on Clever Man before the pressure really came on with her mount running it out strongly for a game third. This had punters specking Clever Man at price in the Strathalbyn Cup last start. The race was never run to suit as Second To None just walked out in front. Clever Man did find a good trail into the race under Jessica Eaton. The pair finished off strongly for second in the provincial cup and Weatherly can find a cosier run off the inside gate for Clever Man on Sunday.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 5 FINAL ATOM ($3.95 )

It didn’t take long for Hamilton trainer Charlotte Parker to taste success with her new recruit in FINAL ATOM. Punters backed the horse into even-money as Final Atom had his first start for the new stable over this track and distance. He led the field at fast gallop under Kate Walters and looked all but home into the straight. The pair were claimed late by Debutante Sir Sway who had the cold sit on them. Sir Sway came out to win his second-race start before being placed behind Kalasec in town. Final Atom secured Parker a winner’s check at his next race start by leading all-the-way at Penola to again post a fast race time. Final Atom can go through some classes for his new stable and should find the front again here under Jacob Opperman.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2 No. 5 MR FERRARI ($10)

Bordertown trainer Scott Irlam is getting closer to a win with his maiden galloper Mr Ferrari. The horse has impressed previously during his barrier trials as he did again with a 5.5 Length romp at Balaklava in December. This had punters backing Mr Ferrari on his home deck at his next start where he was beaten into second placing. His three runs since have all been good, particularly his latest effort in Mount Gambier. Alana Livesey found the front running on Mr Ferrari where the pair copped plenty of pressure. Mr Ferrari did weaken late to miss the photo for second and should settle somewhere on the speed again tomorrow.
