BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.6  DRAGONSTONE  ($5 with Neds)

Trained here by Mark Newnham, DRAGONSTONE is second-up today and ticks all sorts of boxes that indicates he will be a force in this contest. Last start, the four-year-old resumed from an 18-week spell when he found the slower part of the track at Caulfield and finished fifth in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint over 1000m. Despite racing on a Soft 7 that day, he ran his last 600m, 8.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort in this field. Today he is back on home soil where his five starts at the track and distance resulted in a win and three runner-up finishes. Tome Sherry rode him to victory (here) two starts back and is reunited with him today. Already a winner when second-up, he is back on top of the ground with a Good 4 forecast today (where he is two from two), he will find this an easier task and take beating.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 9:  No.3  ZOUSHACK  ($3.70 with Palmerbet)

After victory in the Nature Strip Stakes (with Private Eye) on Saturday, Joe Pride saddles-up ZOUSHACK here who is three starts into this preparation and should be at his peak for this assignment today. Last start, the Zoustar gelding was third-up and fitter for two runs back, proved to good for them in a BM78 Hcp over 1400m at Warwick Farm. He ran that trip out, 6.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. From gate two here, he maps to be box-seating on settling and already a winner here, Regan Bayliss has plenty of horse under him today who looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3:  No.4  QUEEN BELLISSIMO  ($4 with Unibet)

The Brad Widdup-trained QUEEN BELLISSIMO resumes today after spending the last 20 weeks in the paddock and boasting a superb fresh record looks ready to rock today. Last start, the Swiss Ace mare ended her last campaign by finishing sixth in a BM78, here over 1200m. Vetted after the race it was determined that she suffered respiratory issues during the race and was spelled. She trialled recently at Hawkesbury where she finished a close-up second which led to her taking her place here today. Her first-up record reads four starts for two wins and two minor placings and with Tom Sherry aboard today, she looks in the mix to take home the winner’s purse in this line-up.
