BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 1 AWEN – ($3.90)
Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea have sent AWEN around to be well-supported in both runs this prep. Showed good speed to roll towards the lead over 1050 metres at Oakbank first-up. Handled the downhill run plus the tight turns of Oakbank which can often prove a good pointer for Strathalbyn. Still took a little while to balance up properly into the straight to fend off the challenge of Rizskier. She came away from that horse late while Miss Eurozone had built the momentum to score down the outside. Attacked from the onset when racing here second-up, only to have the horse on her back nail her on the line. The quinella pair put a fair margin back onto the rest of them. Form around has been solid, strips fitter and should be too pacey while racing against her own sex.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 3 ALOTAFUN – ($3.50)
The Shayne Cahill camp turned on a training masterclass as they nursed their 5yo mare ALOTAFUN back to the races. She was racing first-up for more than two years with a barrier trial back in May last year between runs. She was okay in a jumpout towards the end of January at Strathalbyn and punters didn’t really let her get out in the market. Jumped sharply and wanted to put herself into the speed battle early. Resented being asked by Teagan Voorham to just come back out of such before duly giving her head. Teagan brought Alotafun with her run shortly upon straightening with the mare wanting to duck back in as she let down. She managed to finish third to a couple of handy types in good time and is lightly rated enough to win through her grades.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4 No. 5 BONJOUR BLUE – ($6.50)
It’s our turn to be with BONJOUR BLUE as she comes into a strong staying test at her sixth run this time in. We expect the speed here to be hot with Not So Innocent bowling along while Social Group is in close attendance. Barend Vorster tracked a similar strong tempo with Bonjour Blue with punters heavily invested last start. The difference here is we don’t have Jason Holder on a Bugatti Gold being able to watch it unfold. Bonjour Blue is also now at an each-way price rather than the red figures it was then. Stubbie went to Barend up the hill with these two coming away for a great duel into the straight. Bonjour Blue went down by a slender margin while putting a gap back onto the rest.
