Race 2 No. 2 SPRAY GUN – ($3.40)

Victor Harbour trainer Jake Stephens opted for the blinkers as he stepped SPRAY GUN out to the mile at Murray Bridge two starts ago. The horse was slow into stride with Lachlan Neindorf hard at work to find a position near midfield the fence. They were coming wider on the Heavy surface that day and Spray Gun made some ground in a dour performance closer to the inside. Stephens promptly removed the blinkers in favour of winkers when drawing the carpark over this track and trip last time out. Spray Gun was again slow to muster with jockey Callan Murray working his mount into the race as the field climbed the hill on turning. Spray Gun ran home as the eye-catcher out wide into the straight. Murray sticks, and the pair can get over the top of these with even luck on Sunday.

Race 3 No. 6 THE BIG CHUNK – ($6)

There should be good pressure up top to suit THE BIG CHUNK in the third race at Strathalbyn Racecourse on Sunday. He debuted over 900 metres at home for Murray Bridge trainer Jordan Frew on New Year’s Day. The Big Chunk found them all a bit too slick through the early stages before working into it late under Ben Price. Regular stable rider Sam Payne gets the ride this week as Frew gets The Big Chunk out to 1200 metres. He is a big chunk of a horse too and may take a bit of work to reach his peak. Possibly also better suited on the bigger tracks such as Gifford Hill; however, the market is allowing us to get on at around that each-way quote.

Race 6 No. 1 HOBO BOB – ($6.50)

Consistent winner HOBO BOB can find a prominent position under Jordan Frew stable apprentice Zoe Lloyd. Lloyd didn’t rush her mount when allowing Hobo Bob to roll forward under his own steam from an outside alley last start. They ended up settling a few lengths off the tearaway leader in a well-judged ride by Lloyd. She allowed the horse to balance on straightening despite copping a slight check from the inside horse. She did also have to straighten her mount once or twice as Hobo Bob wanted to lay back in on that runner. The pair were always going the better, and Hobo Bob did get his nose down on the line to win.
