Race 6:  No.2  SEGUSO  ($3.60 with Palmerbet) 

The Cody Morgan-trained SEGUSO is second-up today and has done enough at his past two starts to suggest he will take beating here. Last start, the Redoute’s Choice gelding came off a 10-week break when he finished third, here in a 1200m Hcp event. Beaten less than half a length on the line, he covered his last 600m, 6.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Andrew Gibbons takes charge today as the five-year-old gets all the favours from gate one. Formerly with the Graeme Begg stable, he has impressed with his two starts under Morgan and looks a real contender here today.

Race 8:  No.3  IN SPADES  ($6 with Palmerbet)

Muswellbrook galloper IN SPADES is no stranger to this track and her third-up stats suggest she will be there when it counts today. Last start, the Dissident mare came off a first-up podium finish (on this track) when she improved enough to take out a Class 2 Hcp over 900m at Scone. She ran her last 600m, a whisker quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Today, she has drawn wide in gate 10 but maps to be sitting mid-field with cover on settling. Aaron Bullock has his first ride on the mare today and fitter for two runs back, she will play a role in the finish here.

Race 4:  No.8  POET LAD  ($7 with TAB)

Local galloper POET LAD has found his mojo this campaign and down in the weights today looks a good chance of back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Lope De Vega gelding came off a BM58 win, here over 1400m when he dropped back in grade and beat all but one home in BM50 company, over the same track and trip. He ran that out, 5.9 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here. Grant Buckley has steered him to two of his four career victories and has control here. Ideally drawn in gate three today, he maps to settle just off the speed and looks a genuine chance at odds today.
