Our form expert provides Grafton tips for today’s horse racing at Grafton Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.4  PIE PARTY  ($3.50 with Ladbrokes)

The Kris Lees-trained PIE PARTY has come back in great touch and looks well placed here for another top shelf finish. After winning her maiden first-up at Doomben, the Pierro mare then finished second in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Beaudesert. Andrew Mallyon was aboard for both runs and remains in charge again today. She has a wide gate to contend with today (11 of 13) but does have good early gate speed and here she maps to settle in the first half-dozen. If she can overcome the draw, she will take beating here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2:  No.6  GHOST HUNTER  ($6 with Palmerbet)

The Jenny Graham-trained GHOST HUNTER sees the Grafton track for the first time today but is bringing good recent form with him that has him in contention here. Last start, the Super One gelding clobbered a BM58 field when he crossed the line two lengths in front of them over 1000m at Taree. He ran that out, 1 length quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by 5 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Ideally drawn in gate two today, a repeat of that last performance should see him going back-to-back here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.8  HAURAKI GULF  ($7.50 with Neds)

The Jim Jarvis-trained HAURAKI GULF is a track specialist here ticks enough boxes to be considered a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding was fourth-up and proved too good when recording his first win for this campaign, here in a 1000m Hcp. Ridden a real treat by Stephen Traecey, he had the gelding sitting pretty just behind the pace, then in the run home, came off heels to grab them on the line for the honours. Nicely drawn in gate five today, he maps to settle in a similar spot and with Traecey at the helm again, he looks the one to beat in this contest at odds today.
