BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.4  PLISKOVA

The Stephen Jones-trained PLISKOVA resumes from a 36-week spell today and boasting a strong fresh record, looks right in the mix among these. Last start, the Swiss Ace mare ended a four-start campaign by finishing third in a Class 2 contest over 1100m at Dubbo. She settled second (on the fence) and took over on the turn. The five-year-old looked home but was grabbed late by two swoopers who grabbed her right on the line, leaving her with the minor prize. Two previous first-up appearances ended with a win and a close-up second placing and she has two runner-up finishes from her only two starts at the track and distance. Nicely drawn in gate five today, she will probably look to lead here and on fresh legs, will take catching.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.3  SOCIAL OUTCAST

Locally-trained by Cody Morgan, SOCIAL OUTCAST is four starts into this campaign and in top form of late. Two starts back, the Pariah gelding clobbered them in a Class 1 over 1600m at Coonabarabran where he put four lengths on the 10-strong field that day. Then last start, Mitch Stapleford had the reins when he beat all but one home in a BM58 over the mile at Quirindi. Stapleford steers the ship again here and at his peak, he can get the job done here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5:  No.4  ISLAND LEGEND

Local galloper, ISLAND LEGEND is third-up today and looks well placed to bring up his first win on home soil. Last start, the well-bred Capitalist gelding was second-up and showed plenty of improvement when finishing third in a BM58 over 1200m at Quirindi. Carrying 61kgs, he sat on the leader’s heels to the turn and took control soon after straightening, before being run down late near the line. They ran a slick 1:09.5 for the 1200m and finishing just a length behind that time was a solid effort. Braith Nock was aboard that day and sticks with the five-year-old for this assignment. Ideally drawn here in gate four, he maps to settle just behind the speed and fitter for those two runs back, he looks a serious player in this field at odds today.
