Our form expert provides Wellington tips for today’s horse racing at Wellington Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.4  ILLUSIVE STAR  ($3.50 with Ladbrokes)

Rodney Robb saddles-up ILLUSIVE STAR here who is three starts into this campaign and looks set to continue the good work already done. Last start, the Stratum Star mare continued improving when third-up, she won a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m at Forbes. She drew the outside gate (9) that day and had Jake Pracey-Holmes aboard for the first time who settled her outside the leader and steered her to victory, crossing the line more than a length clear. At her peak today, she is in form and should take beating in this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.2  SEASIDE SANDY  ($3.50 with Picklebet)

The Claire Lever-trained SEASIDE SANDY wears the visors for the first time today as she makes her Wellington debut. Last start, the Real Impact mare finished a game fourth in a BM66 Hcp over the mile at Moruya. Kayla Nisbet was aboard for that contest, having ridden the mare to victory three starts back at Queanbeyan. Nisbet has the job again here as the four-year-old gets the gun-run from gate one. She was a dual-acceptor today, (scratched from race five), where she drew the outside gate (10) in a much harder Class 2 event. This looks a much more winnable affair as she actually drops in grade today and despite the rise in weight, still looks a definite winning chance.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.7  BELLUCCI BELLA  ($7 with Bet Right)

The Clint Lundholm-trained BELLUCCI BELLA is second-up today and has enough boxes ticked to suggest she is a real threat to this field at odds. Last start, the Sepoy mare was fresh off a five-month spell when she tackled a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m at Bathurst and wasn’t disgraced by finishing third in the nine-horse affair. Apprentice, Ronald Simpson, was aboard that day and has earned the job for today’s assignment. The five-year-old jumps from the middle of the field today and maps to settle just behind the speed. Fitter for one run back, she looks up to this challenge today. You omen punters out there should take note, Race 7, horse 7, barrier 7 and (currently) she is $7 with the bagmen.
