Coonabarabran Racing Tips 25 Oct 2026: Who Wins the Cup?

Overview

J Clement has six runners at Coonabarabran on Sunday, and Gabrielle Johnston rides every one of them. That is the thread worth pulling first: Clement has sent nine runners here before, won with two and had six finish in the first three, and the stable has a horse with a real chance in four of the eight races.

The card itself is a Showcase day with plenty of depth for a country track. Eight races on a Good track, from a 984m maiden at 1:20PM through to the Imperial Hotel Coonabarabran Showcase Cup at 4:56PM and a 1312m Class 2 to close at 5:40PM. These Coonabarabran racing tips go race by race with a clear pick, the main danger and a staking line for each. Fields are big from Race 4 onwards, with 14 or more acceptors in four races, so check scratchings before you bet. Live prices were only up for the first two races at the time of writing.

Reading the Coonabarabran card

Limited course form across today’s fields: only five runners have been here before, and none more than once. Justo’s Rocket won on its only visit and Mariota ran third on its only start here. That is the full extent of the horse history, so the weight shifts to riders and stables.

The jockey numbers have more substance. J Pracey-Holmes has won four of her eight rides at Coonabarabran and placed in six of them, which makes her the rider to follow on a day when she has five mounts.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
J Pracey-Holmes 8 4 6 50.0 75.0
Gabrielle Johnston 8 1 3 12.5 37.5
Jasmine Urquhart-Warren 6 0 2 0.0 33.3
S Lisnyy 5 1 1 20.0 20.0
Clayton Gallagher 5 0 1 0.0 20.0
Kody Nestor 5 0 1 0.0 20.0
Nick Palmer 6 0 1 0.0 16.7

On the training side, Clement has the most evidence. Kieren Hazelton has placed with all three of his runners here and brings six today, which is worth noting even off a small base.

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Kieren Hazelton 3 1 3 33.3 100.0
MS J Clement 9 2 6 22.2 66.7
Kylie Kennedy 4 0 2 0.0 50.0
Brett Robb 3 0 1 0.0 33.3
MS M Harrison 3 0 0 0.0 0.0
Brett Thompson 6 0 0 0.0 0.0

Johnston and Clement have teamed up 128 times across all tracks for 23 wins and 49 placings, and they had a winner as recently as Saturday. At Coonabarabran the partnership has one win and two placings from five.

Coonabarabran race by race

Race 1: Coonabarabran Bakery Country Boosted Mdn Showcase Plate, 1:20PM, 984m

Fratianno is the maiden who keeps knocking on the door, and the question is whether this is finally the day. Five of his six runs in the last 90 days ended in the first three, worth more than $28,000 in prizemoney, without a win among them. His form line of 223234 tells the same story. L P Rolls has a good draw in barrier 5 to work with over a short trip.

The danger is the one nobody has seen race. Haveaniceday is a 3-year-old with no form line yet from the David J Smith stable, and Pracey-Holmes takes the ride with that course record behind her. The market has noticed: Haveaniceday is $2.90 with Bet Right against Fratianno‘s $2.50 with Unibet. Mia Amore ran fourth on debut and gets 4kg less than the older horses.

Fratianno win at $2.50. Not generous, but he has done everything except win and this is the softest race he has met in a while.

Race 2: Barron’s Tyre And Mechanical Showcase Hcp (C3), 1:55PM, 1750m

The market has Talakai as the $2.90 favourite with Bet Right, and it is hard to see why he should be that much shorter than Noble One. Talakai has had two runs back from a spell for a second and a fourth. Noble One has won three of his last five, and his latest run was a win. That is the form horse of the race, and he is $6.50 with Unibet.

M Weir has only ridden here twice, but she won on one and placed on the other, and she rides for Connie Greig, who also has Ichika in the race. Noble One is a 7-year-old in the form of his life, and the stable has two shots at the race.

Easy Trapezee is the danger at $5.50. Two wins from four runs in the last 90 days and more than $30,000 earned, so his form is not far behind. Mariota ran third on his only visit to Coonabarabran and placed in both his recent runs for Hazelton, also at $5.50.

Win bet on Noble One. At $6.50 this is the best price on the card for a horse with recent winning form.

Race 3: Edwards Air Conditioning And Refrigeration & Daikin Showcase (Bm66), 2:30PM, 1531m

Two consistent profiles, one race. The Great Armada has two wins and three placings from five runs in the last 90 days; Moon Zone has placed in all five of his for one win. Both are honest. The difference is that The Great Armada has been finishing the job more often and gets the benefit of Johnston and the Clement stable on a day they look primed.

The Great Armada also carries 56.5kg against Moon Zone‘s 57kg, so there is nothing between them at the weights. Moon Zone has a wide gate in barrier 10, which could make his life harder over 1531m.

The Bentley is a third option, with a win and two placings from four recent starts for Greig and Weir. News Bound has won two of five lately but carries 59.5kg.

Win bet on The Great Armada, with Moon Zone on top in the exacta.

Race 4: Phong Nguyen Memorial Super Mdn Hcp, 3:05PM, 1312m

A 16-horse maiden handicap, so expect a messy race. Miss Maverick is the only horse in the field with a body of recent placed form: four placings from six runs in the last 90 days and more than $19,000 earned, which is more than anyone else in this race. Her form reads 443283.

The problem is barrier 15. Izzy Neale will have to work to find cover from out there, and in a big field that could cost her the race. That pushes her from a win bet into an each-way play.

Dirty Dani is the obvious danger. She ran third on her only run in the last 90 days, with form of 8233, and Pracey-Holmes rides her from barrier 10. Little Duke ran second on his only recent start and is worth a look for the Grills stable.

Each-way on Miss Maverick. If the gate goes against her, the place still comes into play.

Race 5: Bowman Racing Showcase Hcp (C1), 3:39PM, 1531m

Miners Mate drew barrier 2, and in a field of 14 that matters. The 3-year-old has won once and placed in four of his six runs in the last 90 days, and he has already earned close to $30,000. His latest run was an eighth, so he needs to bounce back, but the four runs before it read 2312. Clayton Gallagher should be able to hold a spot near the lead from that gate, and the 3-year-old gets 57kg against the older horses.

Justo’s Rocket is the course horse, a winner on his only visit to Coonabarabran, and Pracey-Holmes rides for W T Martyn. His recent form has been less convincing, with one placing in four, which is why he sits behind Miners Mate here.

Midnight In Minori has placed three times from five lately and is the other one to include for the Greig stable.

Win bet on Miners Mate.

Race 6: Northwest Equestrian Expo Cup Day Showcase Sprint, 4:18PM, 1203m

Does Crook‘s run of placings ever turn into a win? He has finished in the first three in all three runs in the last 90 days, and his form line ends 7222. Three straight seconds is either a horse about to break through or one that keeps finding one better. With Zoe Hunt aboard and barrier 7, he will be in the finish again.

The one to beat him is Castlebar Road, a 10-year-old with two wins and three placings from five recent runs. He is the more proven winner, Johnston rides, and he gets in with 56.5kg. Mister Bianco has earned more than $64,000 in his recent runs but carries 63kg, which is a lot to give away in a sprint.

Castlebar Road win, Crook for the place. This is not a race to load up on.

Race 7: Imperial Hotel Coonabarabran Showcase Cup, 4:56PM, 1750m

Hammoon Sensation has had one run in the last 90 days and won it, picking up $55,000 on the way. That single run was worth more than anything else in this Cup field has earned recently. He is a 4-year-old on the way up, he draws barrier 2 and Reece Jones takes the ride for R P Northam. His form line of 174231 ends with that win.

The danger is Micro Mikki, who has placed in four of his five recent runs and earned more than $32,000. He is the class horse on numbers but has 60.5kg to carry, which makes his task harder over 1750m.

Talkachino, with a win from three runs lately, gets in light with 53.5kg. Shadow Dane and Macleay both have a win from seven recent starts. Macleay is the Clement runner in the Cup.

Back Hammoon Sensation to win. He has the profile of the improving horse in the Cup.

Race 8: Reggies Tattersalls Hotel Baradine & Pursehouse Coonabarabran Country Boosted Showcase Plate (C2), 5:40PM, 1312m

Mega Pixel is the most consistent horse on the card. Two wins and six placings from seven runs in the last 90 days, close to $34,000 earned, and Johnston rides for Clement. The last run was a sixth, which is the only real blemish, but he gets 57.5kg here while eight of his rivals carry 59kg.

Vicious Rumour is the danger. He won his only run in the last 90 days, worth $15,000, and gets in on 55.5kg. Quasimoto has placed in four of his five recent starts and could add something to the exotics.

Win bet on Mega Pixel, with Vicious Rumour in the exacta.

Where the money goes

NAP: Mega Pixel (Race 8, 5:40PM). Six placings from seven recent runs, an easier weight than most of the field and the stable that is the story of this meeting. The last-start sixth looks like the exception.

Value: Noble One (Race 2, 1:55PM). Three wins from his last five and the most recent of them a win, yet he is $6.50 with Unibet behind a $2.90 favourite.

Banker: The Great Armada (Race 3, 2:30PM). Five recent runs, five finishes in the first four, and two wins among them. The safest leg for a multi.

Each-way: Miss Maverick (Race 4, 3:05PM). Four placings from six runs in a maiden full of horses still searching for form. Barrier 15 is the only knock.

Course angle: J Clement places two out of every three runners she brings to Coonabarabran, and Gabrielle Johnston rides all six today. The Great Armada, Castlebar Road and Mega Pixel are the three to follow.

If Pracey-Holmes keeps winning half her rides here, she will be the first name on the Coonabarabran form guide at the next meeting.
