Northam Racing Tips 25 Oct 2026: Forgotten Son Again?

Overview

Forgotten Son has been to Northam twice and won both times, and on Sunday he goes for the hat-trick in the Enright Memorial with Brandon Louis back in the saddle. That alone would make the card worth a look. Add the fact that Louis and trainer A D Mathews have combined for three wins from five rides at this track, and you have the clearest angle on a ten-race program that otherwise asks plenty of questions.

These Northam racing tips cover all ten races on a Good to Soft surface, from the opening maiden at 12:47PM through the Procon Developments Australia Northam Cup at 5:25PM and the closing C3 handicap at 6:00PM. Five of the ten are maidens, so expect plenty of lightly raced horses and thin course form. Where the course numbers carry weight, we lean on them. Where they don’t, we go to form trajectory, stable intent and the riders who know the track. Markets were not open when this was written, so there are no prices quoted below.

Reading the Northam card

Limited course form across today’s fields, with most runners having one or two starts here at most. Salve Regina is the most-raced horse at the track with five visits, placed in three of them without a win, and On Cue has won one of four. Forgotten Son is the only runner on the card with multiple Northam wins. The jockey and trainer numbers are where the real depth sits.

Natasha Faithfull 36 5 13 13.89 36.11
Jefferson Tsang 47 8 14 17.02 29.79

Trainers at Northam (10+ runners, sorted by place rate)

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Josh Brown 10 1 8 10.00 80.00
J P Taylor 23 5 13 21.74 56.52
Michael Grantham 19 2 9 10.53 47.37
N D Parnham 35 9 16 25.71 45.71
D & B Pearce 26 6 11 23.08 42.31
Mitchell Pateman 25 6 9 24.00 36.00

N D Parnham has the most Northam winners of any trainer represented, nine from 35 runners, and Mitchell Pateman and D & B Pearce both strike at close to one in four. Chris Parnham and Jefferson Tsang share the lead for course wins among today’s riders on eight apiece, and Lucy Fiore hits the frame on half her Northam rides.

Northam race-by-race tips

Race 1: Liquor Barons Northam Mdn, 12:47PM, 1422m

Run Rupert Run is heading the right way. His last three runs read fifth, third, second, and he placed on his only previous visit to Northam, which counts for something in a maiden where half the field has never raced. Luke Fernie’s runner gets barrier 3 under J Lyon and should find a spot handy without having to work.

The one to respect is Mr Kaplan. His trainer, T M Andrews, has won with two of eight runners here and placed with five, and the horse has a second on his record. Maybe Maybe Maybe has run fourth twice and draws the inside, so he’ll be close enough if the leaders tire. Win bet on Run Rupert Run.

Race 2: Triple M Northam Mdn, 1:22PM, 1422m

Can Swing Bar turn two honest efforts into a win? Third on debut, second last time, and one of those placings came at Northam, so the track holds no mystery. Misty Bazeley has had three runners here for two placings, and Jarrad Noske gets a nice draw in 5.

Super God is the danger. The D & B Pearce stable wins with nearly a quarter of its Northam runners and he has a second in his two-run career. Spirit Of Dan, third on debut for D L Morton, is the other with a place line. Swing Bar to win, small saver on Super God.

Race 3: Afgri Equipment Northam Mdn, 1:52PM, 1422m

Fifteen maidens, several of them with no form at all, so take this one lightly. The shape suits a horse that’s already shown it can hold a position, and Photosynthesis fits. Fifth, seventh, third, fourth, then second last start: each run has been a little more competitive, and he placed in his only Northam outing. Colin Webster Jnr’s gelding gets barrier 5 and Jordan Turner.

Keep an eye on Snippets Return for one reason: trainer Josh Brown has hit the frame with eight of ten Northam runners. Non Reflective, fourth, fourth and sixth from three starts, is the steady one from the inside. Small win bet on Photosynthesis, Snippets Return in exotics.

Race 4: Avon Valley Toyota Hcp (C1), 2:30PM, 1750m

Two horses with a recent win stand out in a modest C1. Choux’n’whiskey won last start and arrives on the back of the best result of his campaign. Secretchino has the course record: one win from two Northam starts, and the most prize money in this field over the last 90 days.

The course record is the deciding factor. Holly Nottle can roll forward from barrier 2 and dictate. Choux’n’whiskey jumps from 9 and will need luck. On Cue has also won here, one from four, and can’t be dismissed at the weights. Secretchino to win, Choux’n’whiskey the danger.

Race 5: Chc Hire Mdn, 3:10PM, 1750m

Hard to have a confident view. Most of these are stepping out to 1750m and few have shown much at any trip. If forced, Squad Goal gets the nod on the strength of a ninth, eighth, second sequence and a trainer, Tiarnna Noske, who places with half her Northam runners.

Money Manziel is interesting from barrier 3. He ran fourth on debut and Mitchell Pateman has six Northam winners from 25 runners. Arrestedevelopment, third in his only start, carries the S V Vahala stable that places regularly here without winning. Watch race, small each-way on Squad Goal at most.

Race 6: Swan Draught Mdn, 3:45PM, 1094m

Deep Lyric has run second in both starts and gets Holly Nottle on board for Luke Fernie. Two seconds from two is the profile of a maiden about to break through, and the 1094m should suit a horse that’s been finishing off.

The problem is barrier 12, which means work early or a run back in the field. That’s why My Testimony matters. She’s placed in her last four, including a placing at her only Northam start, and Chanel Cooper can use barrier 14 to come across and sit outside the lead. Salve Regina knows the track better than anything here, five starts for three placings, but she still hasn’t won. Deep Lyric to win, My Testimony for the place.

Race 7: Western Racepix Hcp (C1), 4:20PM, 1203m

Market Snitz has had one start and won it. That is either a horse with a lot more to come or a one-off, and from barrier 1 with Jefferson Tsang aboard, he gets the chance to prove which. Tsang has eight Northam winners, level for the most of any rider on the card, and he knows how to use the rail here.

London Rose is the obvious threat. She has won her only Northam start and has a win among her last three runs, worth more prize money than anything else in the race over that period. Classic Royale ran second last time and keeps finding the frame. Back Market Snitz to win and cover with London Rose in the trifecta.

Race 8: Enright Memorial Hcp (C3), 4:55PM, 1422m

Forgotten Son is the best bet at Northam. He is two from two at the course, and the partnership that won those races, Brandon Louis and A D Mathews, has three wins and four placings from five rides here together. Mathews has only had nine Northam runners in total but has won with three of them. That’s a stable that picks its spots.

The worry is the weight. Forgotten Son shares top weight at 59.5kg with Mind Field, and his latest run was a fifth. But the last two runs before that were wins, and the Northam course record says this is where he’s at his best. From barrier 6 he should get a good spot just off the speed.

Snippy Sean is the main danger. Back-to-back seconds suggest he’s close to a win, and Natasha Faithfull has five Northam winners. Guarantor and Mind Field have each won their only start here, and Properata brings Chris Parnham’s course record to the race. It’s a strong C3, but Forgotten Son has the profile. Win bet.

Race 9: Procon Developments Australia Northam Cup, 5:25PM, 1750m

The feature, and the race with the most going on. Oly’s Choice comes in as the form horse: fourth, then second, then a win last start, and the most prize money of any runner on the whole card over the last 90 days. The D & B Pearce stable has six winners from 26 Northam runners, and Oly’s Choice gets 57kg with barrier 3 under B Parnham.

The question is whether the weight-for-form trade swings to the lightweights. Aberdeen Flyer carries 54kg with Chris Parnham, who has the best strike rate of the senior riders at the track, and he ran second last time. He’s placed in five of the six runs in his form line. For S & J Casey, who also saddles Memory Parade, the booking of Chris Parnham looks deliberate.

Royal Toronado is the other with recent form, a second and third in his two runs in the past 90 days, and Lucy Fiore rides him. Multinational, for N D Parnham, ran second two starts ago. Dont Wait For Luck won within the last three months but was fifth last time.

This sets up for a horse that can sit close and sustain from the 600m, and Oly’s Choice from 3 does that best. Back Oly’s Choice to win, with Aberdeen Flyer and Royal Toronado in the exacta. Aberdeen Flyer each-way is the value angle if the bookmakers lean too hard on the topweights.

Race 10: Real Punters Play Here Tabtouch Hcp (C3), 6:00PM, 1422m

Sixteen runners and a race that could go plenty of ways, so the plan is a shortlist rather than a single bet. Hamadryad won last start and Holly Nottle can find cover from barrier 6. Polyvanova keeps knocking on the door, second last time and placed three times in five runs over 90 days, and Mitchell Pateman’s Northam record makes her a serious player at 55.5kg.

Elegant Ruler has placed in both her Northam starts and won one of them, the best course record in the race. Enchanted Hour won on debut for Michael Grantham before a fifth. Hamadryad is the pick, Polyvanova the danger. Win bet on Hamadryad, small saver on Polyvanova.

Where the money goes

NAP: Forgotten Son (Race 8, 4:55PM). Two wins from two at Northam and back with the rider who won on him. When a small stable keeps landing its runners here, follow it.

Value: Aberdeen Flyer (Race 9, 5:25PM). Three kilos less than Oly’s Choice, Chris Parnham riding, second last time. Prices weren’t available when this was written, but if he drifts, he’s the each-way bet of the day.

Banker: Oly’s Choice (Race 9, 5:25PM). Fourth, second, first in his last three, and nobody on the card has earned more in that time. Use him as the anchor for multis.

Each-way: My Testimony (Race 6, 3:45PM). Placed in her last four starts, including a placing at Northam. She doesn’t always win, but she’s always there.

Course angle: Mitchell Pateman. Pateman strikes at close to one in four here, and today he has Money Manziel, Is This Thing On and Polyvanova. Any of them would fit a Northam best bets list.

If Louis and Mathews keep landing runners at this strike rate, they’ll be the first thing worth checking every time the Northam acceptances come out.
