Eagle Farm Racing Tips 14 Oct — can Cigar Man boss the 2600m?
Opening
The race that decides how you play this Eagle Farm meeting is the staying BM68 at 15:08. It’s the one race where you can make a proper, grown-up bet instead of guessing which maiden has decided today is the day. Cigar Man brings actual winning momentum, he’s one of the few on the card with a meaningful recent strike rate, and he’s also one of the few runners who has already handled Eagle Farm (two visits for one win). That’s enough for me to build the day around.
We’ve got four races on turf, the track’s listed as Good to Soft, and the program is heavy on lightly raced types where barrier and ride matter as much as raw ability. These Eagle Farm racing tips lean into what we can trust: stable intent, riders who consistently deliver here, and horses whose recent runs suggest they’re ready to jump rather than just participate.
If you want the quick version, I’m treating Race 3 as the anchor, then looking for one value swing in the 3YO maiden and keeping the first two races simple: back the horse with the least to prove and don’t overcomplicate it.
Eagle Farm — the setup
Good to Soft at Eagle Farm usually rewards the horse that can hold a position and keep rolling. You don’t need to lead, but you do need to be in the fight when they turn. With that in mind, I’m always happier siding with riders who make their own luck here.
Limited course form across today’s fields. Most runners have only one or two starts at Eagle Farm, so I’m treating course records as a note, not a trump card.

Race 1: Become A Brc Member Mdn Plate — 13:58, 1094m
No No No No No is the one I want to be with early. He’s got the right profile for a 1094m maiden: he’s been around the mark without looking like a non-winner, and the draw (3) gives A Mallyon options on a day where you don’t want to be giving away cheap ground on a soft-ish deck.
The two I respect as the main problems sit in different lanes. Dragon Link (gate 4) looks the obvious stalker type off that 6-22 form line, and he maps to get a clean crack at them. Texas is the talent query: the form reads like a horse who’s been there plenty (43402), but from 11 she either needs luck sliding across or she’s doing work early, and that’s rarely ideal first race of the day.
One more note: we’ve got a few listed as Non Runner in the data (Seaphira, Varejao, Queen Of Aces). If those come out, it can change the pressure points and the lane the winner comes down, so keep half an eye on the final field.
Play: Win bet No No No No No. Quinella saver with Dragon Link if you want a little insurance.
Race 2: Sky Racing Mdn Plate — 14:33, 1531m
This is a race about trust. There are enough first starters and lightly exposed types that you can talk yourself into anything. I’m not doing that. I’m siding with the stable and the rider who make Eagle Farm pay when they’re in the game.
I Am Louie (gate 1) gets the perfect setup for a mile-ish maiden: soft run, no excuses, and Cejay Graham knows how to hold a position here. He’s had one start at Eagle Farm already and ran midfield (5th), which isn’t a badge of honour, but it does mean he won’t be gawking at the big track.
The danger I want onside is Seaticflash. He’s only had two runs overall but he’s hit the frame both times, and that’s a proper pattern even if the sample is still light. If he’s as tractable as the form suggests, he’s the one who can park close enough and outstay them.
What do we do with the Waller pair? Konigstein has had five goes this prep window and only one placing, and that’s enough for me to want to see it rather than pay for it. Rising Queen has the upside angle, but the gate (14) means she needs the race to fall into her lap.
Play: Win bet I Am Louie. Save on Seaticflash if the market lets you.
Race 3: Drinkwise (Bm68) — 15:08, 2672m
Cigar Man is the best bet on the card. I’m not tiptoeing around it.
He’s coming in off a run of form that screams “in season”, not “up and down”: six starts in our recent window for two wins and three placings, and he’s still holding his ratings profile together while others in this race look like they’ve been grinding away for weeks. He’s also one of the few in this field with a genuine course tick, having won on one of his two starts at Eagle Farm. Two runs isn’t enough to call him a track horse, but it is enough to say he handles the place.
From barrier 3, Ryan Houston should be able to keep him in the first half without burning petrol. Over 2672m on Good to Soft, that matters. You do not want to spot the leaders six lengths and hope the race falls apart. Make the race, control the tempo, then lean on them from the 600m.
The main threat is Ayasaki (gate 2). He’s the “keeps turning up” type and his recent form is rock-solid: five runs for a win and four placings. He also placed on his only start at Eagle Farm, so there’s no venue fear. If the tempo gets muddled and it turns into a sit-sprint, he’s the one who can pinch it with the last 200m.
Trusty Bandit is the wild card. He’s the sort who can look plain one start, then jump out of the ground the next, and his overall recent figures (seven runs, two wins) say he’s capable. But his only Eagle Farm run was well back in the finish, so I want to see him do it here before I declare him a stayer who loves the big track.
Play: Strong win bet Cigar Man. Small saver on Ayasaki if you want to sleep at night.

Race 4: Xxxx Mdn Hcp — 15:43, 1312m
The market usually overreacts to one good maiden run and underreacts to the horse that had every right to win but didn’t get the right map. I’m hunting that second type here.
Jimmy The Scat is the clear pick. He’s only had one start, but he ran second, and now he comes into a 3YO set-up where the handicap conditions at least give him a defined job: carry the big weight (132.2) and be better than them anyway. Barrier 12 isn’t friendly over 1312m, so I’m banking on class and intent rather than a soft lead. If he’s the right horse, he can absorb the early work and still finish.
The danger I keep coming back to is Ready Set Tergo. He’s had the one run for 4th, and that often sharpens a 3YO up quickly. The booking of D Moor is a plus at this track: he doesn’t win at a crazy rate here, but he rides enough winners to trust his judgement in races like this. The gate (10) isn’t ideal either, so he’ll need to be ridden with some purpose.
If you want something at odds, keep half an eye on Cavalluna with Martin Harley. Harley’s record at Eagle Farm is strong across a decent sample (38 rides, 6 wins, 15 placings), and that’s often the difference in these awkward 3YO handicaps where positioning wins races. Cavalluna’s first run was an 8th, so you’re betting on the bounce, not what you’ve already seen.
Play: Jimmy The Scat to win. If the price is short, consider a saver exacta Jimmy The Scat and Ready Set Tergo.
Where the money goes
I’m keeping this meeting simple: one proper bet, one supporting play, and one “only if the price is right” type of swing.
NAP: Cigar Man (Race 3, 15:08). He’s one of the few on the program arriving with a real recent strike rate (2 wins from 5 in the current window) and he’s already proven he can win at Eagle Farm on one of his two visits. That’s enough to take a stand in a staying race where many are just making up numbers.
Banker for multis: Cigar Man again. If you’re playing doubles or trebles, I’d rather lean on the stayer with form than try to get cute in maidens.
Each-way angle: Ayasaki (Race 3). He’s been a placing machine lately and he drew to get every chance (gate 2). Even if he doesn’t win, he’s the one most likely to keep you alive.
Value watch: Cavalluna (Race 4). This is purely a jockey-driven angle: Martin Harley’s Eagle Farm numbers hold up, and if the horse improves second-up, you’ll want to be on before everyone notices.
Keep an eye on how the inside lanes play early. If they’re holding, barriers like 1 to 4 become worth another length in the maidens next time we see this pattern at Eagle Farm.

Ben Thompson is the standout by volume and strike. He’s ridden 179 times at Eagle Farm for 38 wins and 84 placings, so he wins just over a fifth of the time and hits the frame close to half the time. Among today’s riders, that’s the profile you trust when the track is playing tricky.

The best bet is Cigar Man in Race 3 (15:08, 2672m). He’s won twice in his last five runs and he’s already won at Eagle Farm on one of his two starts here, which matters in a staying race on Good to Soft.
Where can I find the best odds for Eagle Farm races?
Shop around with the major books and keep an eye on late moves, especially in the maidens where scratchings can change the map fast. Odds weren’t available in the feed for these races at the time of writing, so I’d be checking live prices closer to jump on your usual bookmaker apps and the exchange.
